Just to let you know, I'm 74 years old and I usually have my son in law do things for me. I needed to change my "Engine Coolent Temperature Sensor" and he sent me your video on how to do it. It made it so easy for me to do it that I was done in around 15 minutes. Thanks for your easy to do video. If I have another problem to take care of in the future I will definitely follow you. 🙂
you save my car, first i change thermostat but didn't work, the code 0128 and 0118. after watch your video, i replace coolant temperature sensor and work. once again thank for your knowlegde, keep good work
I agree with Jared Vizzi about the other video. Totally confused me. You got right to the point on your video calling out the error codes and the differences between the two sensors. And you were right, a 5 minutes fix. Very detailed in a short time. Thanks!
Great video, I had codes P0118 (ECT Sensor) and P0128 ECT below thermostat regulating temperature. My car only read cold. It also caused my 05 Honda civic not to start after running. I changed the sensor seen in the video and I'm back rolling.
did your car not start right after driving it? mine cranks but no start after i just drove it. but is fine if it hasn’t been driven for a hour or so. also revs itself the odd time upon starting when engine was just used. i have codes P0118 and P0128.
Thank you. There is another video that shows how to replace fan switch and calls it temperature sensor. It confused me. I e been getting P0128 and temp gauge randomly goes down to C. Already replaced thermostat and that didn’t solve it.
yups, i had the code po128, and thermostat was "stuck open", said mechanic, so it was replaced in may, 2020, now engine lite came on again, same code po128! think it might be the engine coolant temp sensor,
did you have to leave the battery off for awhile so it would reset and know the sensor was new/working or did it just work when you drove it? as mine the temp keeps going up and down when driving and i have all new waterpump/thermostat/coolant/hoses it's just literally this sensor and the thermo fan sensor to try. so i'm hoping it's this coolant sensor as the thermo fan sensor is twice the money!
I have po118 code but my temp gauge is working fine only fans don't turn on and have overheating. Wondering if replacing coolanr sensor will help. Already replaced temp sensor by thermostat.
Can this sensor being out of calibration cause the fast idle speed to be too high or too low? 96 Honda Civic EX A/T. My fast idle speed is too high. Believe it or not, the Honda service manual doesn't say!
2001 - 2005? Could potentially be an intermittent issue with this same sensor. I believe on this engine (D17A1 and D17A2 engines) the temp gauge is controlled by this sensor as well. It may not be setting a code because the range is still within spec but the resistance readings from the sensor are not correct which could cause the needle on your gauge to drop.
Hi! What could cause that my fan switch switches at as high as 98-99C° (~210F°)? Is the switch faulty? It seemingly works (the fan is also working) but switching at a bit too high temperature in my opinion. Should be ON around 93C°/200F°, isn't it?
Could that sensor cause your car to run hot when u turn on the AC ? I’ve been experiencing that for 2 days and today I looked under my hood there was coolant on the engine so I’m curious. I have a new radiator installed, thermostat, reservoir and the over flow hoses and still experiencing overheating

So I replaced both my my sensors put my thermostat in boiling water and it opens… but my dash heat gage just goes hot then normal, when I’m stationary and while driving…just reads fully to the H then drops back down to normal
I had the same issue now! I fixed my thermostat 2x , fixed 2 fans , fan sensor . I still have an issue where it blows my reservoir plastic cap off, Haven’t done my radiator or this sensor yet… What did you do that fixed ur car?

You deserve more subs man keep up the work, real valid straight to the point info is exactly what we need
No bs, straight to the point love it
This guy has it spot on, thank you.
Dude thank you this explained what I needed to know and made perfect sense thank you!!!

When you replaced this sensor, did it fix the problem and did you have drivability problems with this code?
DrMatt357 yes, replacing the sensor solved the issue. I didn’t have any problem driving while the code was on.

@@otacon4065did u find the problem i have the same problem with my 01 honda civic
Thank you so much exactly what I needed
To see !
Ur a boss! Hopefully this fixes mine, gonna go hook up the reader thing
Help! I over tightened the new sensor and it broke off. What can I do now? Any idea on how to get the bottom taken out?
I have po118 code but my temp gauge is working fine only fans don't turn on and have overheating. Wondering if replacing coolanr sensor will help. Already replaced temp sensor by thermostat.
Why you changed the temprature sensor .?how to chek to tepm. Sensor bed or ok by multimeter. Plz reply
I’ve been getting P0117 low input from the sensor. Are you aware if this is the same sensor?
Can this sensor being out of calibration cause the fast idle speed to be too high or too low? 96 Honda Civic EX A/T. My fast idle speed is too high. Believe it or not, the Honda service manual doesn't say!
Question: my civic heats up but soon after the dash heat indicator drops. Which sensor is gone bad you think?

can replacing the top sensor also fix the p0117 error code too ?
Thanks Mr. Stevenson!!!

I've never heard of a "deep dish" socket lol. Where did you get that, Pizza Hut? 🍕
🤣🤣🤣
For honda civic si 2005, whats part number please? I think i replaced the wrong one
I can't hear very well
So which of the sensor is conected to the gauge on the dashboard
It did help bro and thanks for making this video👍🏽
Is there 2 separate parts for each sensor or are the interchangeable
They are both different. The one on top is 37870-PLC-004, and the one on the side is 37760-P00-003.
Clutch TY !
Are these the correct part numbers for both???
37870-PLC-004 & 37760-P00-00 ?
You can check on hondapartsnow.com , that's what i use.
Does each of two codes specify which sensor it is?
Whats that green wire ?

I needed this👏🏽
How about the one on the rad. ?
What year is this civic?
7 gen 01 to 05
You the man appreciate it
Thank you so much! I had replaced my thermostat and was still getting the P0118 and P0128 codes!
Have you gotten the codes since you replaced the thermostat sensor?
@@trevorjk91 No, I haven't.

did you ever change this? Did it fix your problem? I am having the same issue
Me too. Changed this part and the temp still goes up and down regardless. But not all the way "H" temperature on the gauge...
@@Isaacgill0 changing the top one fixed my problem.
Thanks for the vid bro!
Code P0118 will it cause my engine to overheat
Will a regular 17mm 12pt socket work with an extension ?
It will likely not be deep enough to fit into the bolt, but you can try. Worst case is you just use a normal wrench
So I replaced both my my sensors put my thermostat in boiling water and it opens… but my dash heat gage just goes hot then normal, when I’m stationary and while driving…just reads fully to the H then drops back down to normal

@@nb9536 that’s my last resort …..
I had changed the top one but my temperature gage still is not working. Doesn't come up at all. My fan does come on
were you able to fix it? Im having the same problem
probably a resistor check your fuses if theyre blown
Could also be a wiring issue from the ECU to the gauge cluster or the gauge cluster itself.
Thanks ma BOi!!!
Thank you.
How I find this codes? 0:02
What about gauge temperature sensor
I have same problem of the temperature gauge, when I switch of the engine the gauge goes way back passing the C sign,
Did you get any help?
good job
My gauge went up
I dont know if youre joking but your comment is hilarious
What’s the part number
37870-PLC-004 and don't get it from ebay because most of those $8 parts are fake
P0118
P0128
Bad sensor
P0116
instructions not clear my cars is on fire
I will try this on my 2004 civic which just cranks and doesn't start.
Did that solve your problem?
did it work?
What's the plug right above the sensor??. My car doesn't have a cable plugged to it
can replacing the top sensor also fix the p0117 error code too ?
