Always a delight to watch you solve a tricky Thursday!

This was a tricky theme! Also the piano false start at the end of the video was very unexpected and elicited a real laugh.

This one hurt. In the time it took Chris to solve the whole puzzle, I had ITHACA/HSN, USHER, and PEI. It always gives me hope when I slog my way through a grid that seemed impenetrable, particularly one booby-trapped with rebuses. However, three hours is my self-imposed limit (when it stops being fun), and I threw the towel in at 2:48:42. I had RAPPED for 14D, “Went door to door for,” (you know, rapping on doors?), and I love board games but I never heard of MEEPLE. It’s still my fault for not getting 17A; the moment you see the word ‘slippery’ in a NYT crossword clue, you should immediately type in EEL.

Yeah, MEEPLE (and STEELIE) really threw me off. Great Thursday puzzle though. Got it in about 32 minutes but looked up a few of the answers.

I started doing the NYT crossword every day on February 26th. I went 4-0 in February, 26-5 in March, 25-5 in April, and 27-4 in May. At the beginning of June I decided to try doing the puzzles without Googling (the way Chris does them). I went 15-15 in June, 25-6 in July, but then dropped to 14-17 in August. It’s very disheartening to solve an entire grid and then fail because of a single letter. I then changed my rules to allow myself to check answers after I filled the grid, as long as they were right. That allowed me to narrow down possible wrong answers. I went 19-11 in September with the slightly relaxed rules. I think you can only get better if you’re having fun along the way.

I would say Maya LIN and EERO Saarinen are in the crossword enough to keep official status away from I.M PEI

I liked the theme in this one. I first thought it was something like "spreading LIEs" because the placement of the rebus seemed pretty random

Way too many "for short"s and abbreviations though

27D clue isnt “contradicts”, it’s “contrasts”, which makes HAS make much more sense, as a disease. I like it when you misread clues; I’m legally blind and it makes me feel better about myself :D

You misread the clue for 27D, it was "contracts", not "contradicts". Normally when you do this, you leave it for later and then come back and read the clue correctly without realising your previous mistake, so it stumped you for longer than usual today!

Looks to me like "Contradicts" was in Chris's head because of the "BeLIE" clue. Funny that it worked out anyway. I like that he was confident enough in the crosses to just let it go

I thought it was just contractions on the horizontal Char. Sheen. Was lucky it was correct as it was and it had it as a finish. Too clever by half....
