    21:26 If only Amol had said "you may not discuss"! Not sure if Reading noticed, but there is a burnt bear on their table. Also, there is an entire episode on Moorcroft's shirt by Seinfeld. That said, Moorcroft was the star of today's show.

      Mine too! An unbelievable 8 starters and a little over a dozen bonus questions. Last game was my all time low in an opening round, so I'm glad to have made a comeback, haha.

    Thanks a bunch, wonderful CP! As for the match itself, I got a shockingly high number of answers (namely 15), which means that the questions were comparatively easy this time around. Usually, I only get one - if I am lucky! Exeter produced real teamwork and everyone contributed! Carr stood out to me, though! She seems wonderfully tenacious.

    Hello again! The losing team put up a good fight in the middle, but was blitzed in the beginning and the end. And so we say goodbye to them. The winning team is a force to be reckoned with. My best to both teams, and to each individual.

    Carr and Moorcroft are a wonderful duo! The rest of the Exeter team work amazingly together but these two stood out to me.
    This match got me loads of points, too :)

    Moorcroft and Mouelhi are both really good, Carr and Newman, while not as fast, are good at answering the bonuses. This team might go far.

    Congratulations to Exeter! Seem like a strong team. Reading didn,t seem to be cohesive and dithered a lot. Always enjoyable nonetheless. Thanks for our much anticipated Monday entertainment! 😁

    Not many starters-for-ten answered - 18 in total which is lower than average, but 24/33 is mighty fine work from Exeter. We're definitely not seeing Reading again - second round continues to be set up nicely with how the scores are coming in ;). I also make it that 6/7 qualifying teams have bonus rates of 2/3 or more. Only Wadham, Oxford from 2 weeks back had one below that - not sure what it means but let's hope it continues ;).

    My first episode of these contests; grew up in the Sixties with the USA "College Bowl" with similar format (not sure it was structured similarly, with eliminations)... and enjoyed the farcical "Colorado University of Boulder Trivia Bowl" in 1978.

    Decent performance from the winners, they do need to pay more attention to the actual questions though. Not sure we've seen a winner here when compared to dome others we've seen so far, but potential for a deep run certainly and you never know.

    The question on gametes was wrong. Gametes can be produced either by meiosis or mitosis, depending on the type of organism. In plants, for example, gametes are produced from haploid cells by mitosis.

    In spite of all the unanswerable (by me) biology questions I still managed to get 220, once again placing myself between the winners and the losers. I really liked the fiendish 'flags of countries/metals exported' question, where I got exactly zero.

      There is a phenomenon in TV quiz shows called 'studio freeze'. In spite of all the practice they provide beforehand, even the smartest can suddenly find their brain has frozen in that particular moment. That said, I can't forgive not knowing that gametes don't have pairs of chromosomes.

    Interestingly the expression "to cock a snook" is not as much fun as it may suggest. Its just the action of putting thumb to nose and waving fingers is a childishly insulting way, which im sure Exeter never would do. Its also a fish.
    Also, nice to see a couple of old duffers like myself on the teams, though it does seem a bit unfair to younger generations. Im always impressed by how well informed the young people are on this programme.

    Exeter a really good all round team, Reading only had Rock and Finkelstein taking part. Really wish the editors had excluded the many many times Selvaramesh adjusted her top while answering nothing at all.

    So many missed questions were giveaways for somebody born before 1970!

    Cheating surely having a guy as old as the bizarrely named Newman in the Exeter team. Why not make it for undergraduates between the ages of say 18 and 25? I get a moderate number of the questions, but often simply because of being a lot older I was at 20!

      Yes, but if you look at the real standouts of UC over the years they have all been undergradauate age (Monkman, Seagall, Trimble, Blackman, Zeng, etc.) With the older students there is the tendency to forget what they came into the television studio for . . . Anyway, I suspect the BBC is as loathe to announce a policy of blatant ageism as the next publically funded broadcaster. Peace from Canada.

      Anyways, I personally don't really feel a disconnect to the older students at my uni, so i wouldn't mind getting represented by them.

      Well no it isn't, because they don't necessarily do better than younger players. In 2018-19 a team with an average age of 19 beat a mature college from Cambridge in the semi-finals. I don't think Imperial hasn't had a single player over 30 in its previous 4 appearances
