So many people are talking about Warner but for me, the MVP is Flanagan - a good example of a leader who can delegate well, spend just the right amount of time conferring, consult his team but is not afraid to overrule them, and can contribute a good number of answers himself (in fact, he’s the one who got the team off to a great start).
Oh dear oh dear oh dear...what a way for the losing team to go out. I feel very sorry for them - I so enjoyed them in their first round. Such is life. Thank you, CP, and congrats to the winners. Good luck moving forward!
Best post-game comment ever: "Well the thing is, in a way that you don't really realize until you do this game, so much of it is about momentum, and you guys really got going. It's just [that] it took about 20 minutes for you to get going."
The idea that "momentum" is going to help you name some lake in Paraguay that dried up at the end of the Pleistocene is absurd on its face. I like the new host well enough, but the post-match comments are inane without fail.
Poor Mouelhi, he was jinxed by Amol ….I think that is the second time he has praised someone for their strong starter record, only to have them freeze up. Someone should tell him not to do that!
Really impressive performance by the winners. They so rarely missed. Very very accurate play. And i was impressed that the losers (one in particular) really tried to stay in the game and get a couple of points at least. Fair play. Also, I have to say i really enjoyed watching Warner - it is strange to read comments complaining about his behaviour as though it's not an incredible feat to have such a high hit rate on the hardest quiz show on tv.
Haven't read all the comments yet but seeing his pleasure at knowing an answer thought there'd probably be comments calling him conceited or some other such mean-minded slur.
Hello again! What a smashing performance by the winning team. I'm trying not to give anything away, but the winners become obvious almost from the start. Never in doubt. The winning team is one of the strongest I've seen. Would not be at all surprised to see them win it all. My best to both teams, and to each individual.
My favorite thing I learnt from this episode: MilkyWay-Sagittarius collision and that (potentially) having led to the formation of the sun. I found a nice explanation from a scientist that worked with the Gaia telescope data: “After an initial violent epoch of star formation, ... the Milky Way had reached a balanced state in which stars were forming steadily.” “Suddenly, you have Sagittarius fall in and disrupt the equilibrium, causing all the previously still gas and dust inside the larger galaxy to slosh around like ripples on the water.” In some areas of the Milky Way, these ripples would lead to higher concentrations of dust and gas, while emptying others. The high density of material in those areas would then trigger the formation of new stars. (source: an article on sci DOT news)
Warner does not appear smug to me at all but he does express happiness when he is correct. Maybe it's because I'm an American and he is supposed appear subdued.
Awwwww..felt so bad for Exeter..they just couldn,t get a jump start on Bristol, whose performance was outstanding. Well done anyway, for getting so far in the competition. Congratulations to Bristol! Thanks so much CP!😊
I loved Bristol, and Warner and Flanagan were the strongest, but it frustrated me when they ignored Rogers when she confidently said "It's Torres Island Straight" and those two weren't even sure what they were yapping about.
It's nice to learn something new. For instance before todays episode l thought A Scanner Darkly was the only example of Keanu Reeves giving an animated performance. As to the match, talk about 'ship shape and Bristol fashion'.
Bristol is a beast of a team even if they are slightly carried by the guy on the left and the captain. I reckon they might be a serious contender for the overall win.
Hmm 🤔, is it me or did many of the starter questions seem to be Science questions? The Exeter team (of classicists and historians) never stood a chance!
Yes it would be something along the lines of "What a pathetic performance, Do you learn anything at that university or do you spend all your time in the students common room".
Thanks Cosmic P! Bristol repeated its murdering ways tonight over Exeter after having similarly destroyed the Gonville and Caius team in the first round! Warner's boundless enthusiasm is a little over the top, but it's hard for a boy not to act like that when your team is in slaughter mode! LOL!
The lack of women's football knowledge took me by surprised, with the exception of maybe Miyazawa, all of the footballers shown were incredibly recognisable. Bonmati is the best women's footballer in the world currently...
One of those matches... though as always, someone somewhere is always shouting an answer... here: ALL THE PERI!! xD (just because I'm a vet... CCR!!!, Cirdillera (because I'm chilean), Quasar! (because I'ma fan of Becky xD), Fly! (because "mosca" is fly in spanish xD)... so this time, my neightbours were very angry as you can guess =P
Another demolition job for the winners - quite possibly big contenders but we'll have to see in the QF's. Onto my bug bear; That's only 17 starters-for-ten answered. I'm beginning to think we're not going to get the speed achieved throughout R1 until a new shooting block occurs i.e. QF3 which won't be until Feb/March which is annoying. I'm also not sure we'll get 20 starters-for-ten again this series if the last 5 games are anything to go by which is a big shame.
Thanks you, CosmicPumpkin, from Allen, Texas, for bringing some culture to my soulless state. What a beatdown. It was pretty tough though - I only got one no/wrong answer. I also think that Rajan is a lot more personable than the harsh taskmaster that Paxton was.
Ahoy from godless Washington, D.C. I recently watched some old matches and the thing I noticed most of all was that Paxton gave teams far longer to dither over their bonus answers. Amol is actually a much stricter taskmaster, if kinder with his language!
Exeter were a far better team than they got to show in this match, and really nice people. The Slovenia and Dogger answers were very unlucky. Sometimes things can just fall for you or against you in UC, they already showed that they were a strong team in the first round.
Thinking maybe it's time for CosmicPumpkin to close comments sections? It really is disheartening seeing them get filled with people taking unnecessary (and anonymous) potshots at contestants

Warner may just have 'Aspergers' or similar. Over confidence maybe seen as smugness. Being enthusiastic is a wonderful trait. Fantastic quizzing by Bristol. ❤

Warner is the most smug contestant that has appeared on the show. I really like Bristols captain. They’re a strong team but Warner makes it hard to root for them
I didn't think he was smug! I thought he was anxious being on TV. Some people's anxiousness comes across like this sadly. But yeah, probably just anxious!
11:55 "I looked at a map the other day" is a funny justification for an answer 😂
Why?
Amol seems to have the right words for any situation, thanks pumpkin.
Too many for my liking, says bad luck to completely wrong answers too much
I agree! I really like Amol, really personable guy. Great host.
I agree. I was sceptical when he started, but he converted me immediately

Yes he is the captain Kirk to Warner's Spock.
And I thought last week was a massacre. This was an annihilation.
hard to watch after a while!
it's painful.
bristol has to win. literally none of the members are redundant they're all KILLING it
Mandel will take them on
I noticed that too. No dead weight!
Daddy Mandel will handle them
@rmr1962 I'm rooting for Bristol too but am not discounting the challenge Imperial will pose.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear...what a way for the losing team to go out. I feel very sorry for them - I so enjoyed them in their first round. Such is life. Thank you, CP, and congrats to the winners. Good luck moving forward!
For those who are curious, Ottoman Empire is the answer to the last question (which was interrupted by the gong) .
Thanks!

There were four occasions in the last series when he mentioned how many starters a player got, and invariably that team would go on to lose

Interesting all the Warner hate. Doesn't strike me that way at all. He's quite bright and he's enjoying himself. That seems ok to me.
Haven't read all the comments yet but seeing his pleasure at knowing an answer thought there'd probably be comments calling him conceited or some other such mean-minded slur.
He's just as socially inept as is humanly possible
He might just squeeze into our pub quiz team . But not in place of me !
I enjoyed watching the winning team. They worked well together and took reasonable time to confer.
Oh dear. Trounced!!! Bravo to the impressive winners and I can't wait to see them again! Thank you CP!

I'm sure Bristol vs Imperial will be an exciting match. Mark my words.
oh yes those 3 Male imperial players are fine players but this Bristol might be better, lets see what happens

-10 at the half way point is a new negative record it seems. Sad to see that, glad they rallied at the end.
Yes, would have been a shame if they had to pay points back just to be let out of the studio.
Awwwww..felt so bad for Exeter..they just couldn,t get a jump start on Bristol, whose performance was outstanding. Well done anyway, for getting so far in the competition. Congratulations to Bristol! Thanks so much CP!😊
Wow that was a brilliant win for Bristol
I loved Bristol, and Warner and Flanagan were the strongest, but it frustrated me when they ignored Rogers when she confidently said "It's Torres Island Straight" and those two weren't even sure what they were yapping about.
i feel so proud of myself getting the footballers before the Exeter lot hahahahaha
It's nice to learn something new. For instance before todays episode l thought A Scanner Darkly was the only example of Keanu Reeves giving an animated performance.
As to the match, talk about 'ship shape and Bristol fashion'.
He also very recently appeared in an episode of the Secret Level series as a Mech Pilot based on the game Armored Core!
Bristol is a beast of a team even if they are slightly carried by the guy on the left and the captain. I reckon they might be a serious contender for the overall win.
i agree and no team has 4 great contestant's anyway so every great team is carried either by 2 or maximum 3 players
Did Mouelhi fall asleep under his hair? He managed 5 starters in the first round.
What was Take Me Out inspired by, Amol? It's not obvious to me, Amol!
Enemy at the Gates, Stalingrad sniper film with Jude Law
There is a song exploder episode about the song.
Thanks for posting. Felt badly for Exeter. I think people become buzzer shy if they get one wrong. Good job Bristol.
Hmm 🤔, is it me or did many of the starter questions seem to be Science questions? The Exeter team (of classicists and historians) never stood a chance!
Eh there were lots of geography and Art questions as well.
Can't be bothered to count but seemed the opposite to me, since I scored more than I usually do, and know nothing about any Western science.
Literally it did seem slightly rigged considering how few biology/medicine questions there usually are
Would have loved too have heard Paxmans comments at the end.
Yes it would be something along the lines of "What a pathetic performance, Do you learn anything at that university or do you spend all your time in the students common room".
Thanks Cosmic P!

I don't think it would affect the outcome but the first 10 minutes there were so many science based questions that were in Bristol's wheelhouse.
The first ten minutes were mostly based in geography and art, at least in terms of starters
I guess we'll see more science starters coming up, in the same vein as geography for Imperial under Zeng.
The lack of women's football knowledge took me by surprised, with the exception of maybe Miyazawa, all of the footballers shown were incredibly recognisable. Bonmati is the best women's footballer in the world currently...

I fail to understand all this vitriol against Warner in the comments. He's a very knowledgeable guy and he's just enjoying it. What's wrong with that?
It's secret favoritism because Moorcroft is such a Nilf and nobody dares to admit it.
@Schmidtelpunkt If I'm correct, Moorcroft answered just one question in today's game. So what's your point?

No need for that, we already know this time

Warner has my heart
Halfway through and Bristol is killing it...*EDIT* way to go Bristol, yes momentum means a lot in this game.
Bristol are so exciting to watch, amazing team. Kudos to them
Flanagan is the spit of Howard from Take That.
Flanagan is the type of guy God took eons to sculpture. And I say that as an agnostic.

Both Warner and Flanagan are genius. Bristol could probably win the season!
What a talent! Amazed at his breadth of knowledge.

finally I know a question!! 5:20 nad tatrou sa blýska

Jesus. Warner is such a heavyweight intellectual. Exeter must have felt the equivalent of being tossed around by a wrestler like Karelin.

Ok I want Bristol to play against Open just to see Open get completely destroyed.
Yes please!!!! But they would probably then ask lots of arty-type questions.
Ouch.

If comments from trolls and idiots are a concern, you would have to shut down every comments section in every video.
