This is such a helpful video for a grad student like myself. I have a Lamy AL-Star and a Muji fountain pen. For note taking, my favorite inks are Noodler’s Buletproof Black and Noodler’s Black Swan in Australian Roses. My tip for new fountain pen users: give yourself a budget and stick to it. You don’t have to spend more than $50 (and you can spend as little as $10 or $20) to get started with a good pen and ink.

I love that we could help to support Wonderpens! They are a great store! I have a Lamy Safari from there and some fountain pen inks. Isn't writing with a fountain pen more fun?

I just watched a video about highlighting. if you want to use your highlighters without smearing, what you can do is place a highlight down first then write over it. It'll make the highlight clear and keep your highlighter clean.

Most of the time I find that something is important, after I wrote it.

Are you a fellow fountain pen user? What brand do you use? Do you have a preferred ink brand or type? Any tips for newer fountain pen users?

Yesterday I bought Lamy 012 Vista F, I've never tried a fountain pen before. I hope I can find archival ink cartridges for this pen.

Khan you can try document ink as well. My understanding is that it is used by notaries.

@@JacquelineBeaulieu Thank you! I didn't know there were document inks.

@@Khan-oz9dx another term for document/archival ink you might see is “bulletproof” or “waterproof”. These mean the same thing as far as I am aware.

I love my Lamys, and my Kaewco Sports, and my Xizo Maestro, and my Pilot Metropolitan, Waterman Ideal 54... Fountain pens are an addictive habit. The Lamy is a great, reliable pen available in bunches of colours. I use Platinum Carbon Black in my Mango Lamy Safari. It too is a documental ink, and very popular with artists who do watercolours over their ink. Sadly, it stains the plastic on my pretty pen, so getting the Al-Star for inks like that is a better idea. Same pen, different material.

I love my Lamy fountain pen, I have the Al-Star Pacific limited edition from 2017, which is very similar to this one but a little more blue. Thank you for sharing your ink tip for using highlighters, I will try it! Right now I've been just underlining instead of going over the words when using highlighters but I'm gonna try and use this type of ink and see how it goes.

You're so welcome! I'm loving my new Lamy Al-Star as well! It is my first Al-Star- I've used Safari's to date. Hopefully the document/archive ink works well for your highlighting purposes. Another trick- highlight first, then let it dry, then write on top. I don't normally do this, but on occasion for something decorative (e.g., in a planner). Let me know how it goes!

I have one Diamine ink and it is lovely- an archival blue-black ink. I haven't come across the others yet, but I imagine I will.

Also if you’d like to check out the fountain pens at Laywine’s, you can visit their store in Toronto or their newer website laywines.com

Your video looksinteresting. Too bad the loud music makes it very difficult to hear what you are saying. Instructional videos videos do not need music, even if it is muted, it is distracting.
