I never knew I had to clean my fountain pen! I noticed today that it was writing less than optimally. Thank you for the helpful tips!
Sameee 😭 I almost throw my kakuno away until I watch this video.. thank goodness
i watched the whole video, i don’t even have a fountain pen
Buy one, use it, and clean it. You have your orders. 😉
future preparation :)
Encore_ss No, fountain pens write more smoothly and require no pressure to write, leading to less hand fatigue over hours of writing. Fountain pens can use the thousands of ink colours without being limited. The liquid ink stands out more on paper, and some have special properties like being waterproof, fade proof or fraud proof such as archival ink. Fountain pens can also give line variation through flex or stub nibs that allow of calligraphy to be done or for sketches such as Manga or even architectural designs, or just simple drawings. Seems to me that fountain pens are very different and not “pointless”.
(The guy removed his comment but I’m keeping mine up in case anyone else had the same assumption)
than get one 😉
you should try one...
It's the perfect time to clean your fountain pens! Hope everyone is safe and healthy.
Hello
nice
That's great
Nice video keep it up 10/10
why does my pen stop writing at some parts? I would really appreciate if you can tell me!
I got my first fountain pen a while ago and it was a medium tipped fountain pen, which didn't work as well for my handwriting but it has cool design so I decided to clean it and store it. I've been watching your videos and this tutorial is so helpful!
I still have a Papermate fountain pen my grandmother gave to me for school 50 years ago ......... still working perfectly.
Amazing that's really old😂
I’ve literally cleaned 30 pens this month. 😁
A pen a day keeps the doctor away
@@allisonn2499 hahaha
U have that many FOUNTAIN PENS!?! as i might have 90+ gel pens😳 but only 3 fountain pens😕
@@tahairakhan5669 U have that many GEL PENS? 🤣 actually my Rapidograph collection is the biggest those need even MORE cleaning than fountain pens 🤣
@@geckonia ooh , actually I've been collecting since 2 years, so...it's an obsession 😂
Thank you for this! I accidentally stored two of my fountain pens when we decided to repaint my craft room (thought I'd lost them!) and when I unboxed them, the ink in the converters had evaporated and/or dried to the sides of the converter. Flushing the iroshizuku ink was as quick as shown but the Monteverde Noir ink took forever! I was really surprised at how clean the parts looked yet ink was still staining the water!
I just checked my "clean" convertor that had the Noir ink in it. I'd left it to dry overnight, but when I moved the piston, more watery blue ink is still in there!! lol
I can feel how annoyed you were :)
I use those little glass yoghurt containers to clean my pens!
That’s literally the perfect use for those!
Me too! I thought i was alone!!
why glass and not plastic?
great idea!
I love fountain and dip pens! I recently (a couple weeks before the apocalypse started) bought a metal tipped quill that I intend to write my personal copy of the book I’m writing
Let me know how it goes! I'm so excited for you!🥰
Jetpens should get an award or something for being a channel whose videos get less number of dislikes.
Oh my God, I didn't even realize this is probably the reason why I never liked writing with fountain pens! I immediately got to work, taking out my old pens to do some cleaning. Let's hope this makes the difference for me! 🤞🏻
This is very concise and helpful. The demo is simple yet complete, with different methods depending on the variation of fountain pens... all in one quick video. Thanks and kudos! ☺🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
THANK YOU for this!! I bought a LAMY Safari from a bookstore a jillion years ago and wasn't even sure how to begin. Now it's clean and I got a converter and new stuff coming from y'all in a couple weeks.
Wait... YOU TAKE PROPER CARE OF Your fountain pen?!!!
Oh and btw I try to take care and cherish my one fountain pen that I chose from a jetpens video. Thanks, it was great! (Oh and this was helpful!)
Thank you, it worked like a charm. I actually thought my pen was done because I hadn't used it in awhile. Your advice fixed it just like new...
This video is so useful. I just apply the techniques on my pen and it works so well! Thank you for the video
This is awesome! Thank you for the guide.
Just getting into fountain pens, after making many rollerball pens. Thank you for a very user-friendly guide to cleaning! I just bought a medium-nibbed pen to try the size out, but like the fine size better. The seller doesn't offer replacement assemblies, but says the nib can be replaced. I've shied away from fountain pens because of this kind of thing, but am ready to take it on now, thanks to tutorials like yours.
Thank you so much! I am now able to use my fountain pen again after cleaning as instructed.
Excellent information. Pentastic indeed!
Wonderful tips! Well done video…. thanks!
Thank you! Thank you for this easy explanation on how to clean my fountain pens!! Did what you said and now they write smoothly!! I thought I had to throw them away but not yet...not yet.
Super helpful video! Thank you.
The basic one really helped me clean my ordinary fountain pen!
Thanks!❤
The DIY bulb syringe is an excellent idea - thanks!

Very useful video thanks
Thank you for the great video.
Excellent! Thank you.
Excellent video
Thank you so much nyo!
Thank you. I’ve had my fountain pen for only a few days but it was already starting to get scratchy. I think it was due to the poor quality of my paper. But after cleaning it it runs smooth again.
Really valuable information 👏👏👏
Really helpful.
Thanks for this tutorial
Oh wow..thank u for the info
Very useful video.
thank you so much for this
I always clean my Fountain pens, even the cheaper ones with the catrige because i abslutely love them and wan't to keep it for long time and anyway you've show what happen when whe don't clean hour Fountain Pens the righting is not nice, thank you sop much for this great video, i plan to bought an expensive Fountain Pen because know i do lots of practice with these budget price and i know i will take care of very perfectely with you great tutorials wo are clear like crystal.
Thank you!
This video illustrates why I prefer to own cartridge/converter pens: They are much easier to maintain than lever-fill or piston type pens. It takes much less time to clean them, and the cleaning is more thorough.
Feed of Lamy Safari/Al-Star can actually be removed. It's just very difficult to be removed and you have to apply a lot of force and grip to pull the feed out. If you are determined to do that, remove the nib before pulling the feed out and make sure you look properly before you insert the feed back in.
Ideally, don't pull the feed out that often because the friction might make the fitting between the feed and pen body looser. I usually flush my fountain pen or sometime I will put my pen in an ultrasonic cleaner to push out stubborn ink inside the feed.
So informative and so much to know about fountain pens. I really loved the video, much like I love my fountain pen. All the best.
We're glad you enjoyed the video!
I have the exact same fountain pen as in the video, even down to same color. I recommend the Pilot Elabo.
I have a collection of fountain pens and flush them out regularly. I didn't know about the old cartridge and syringe hack. I will try that next time. Thanks.
Thank you ❤❤
wonderful i love it
Thanks so much. 🥰
Thanks for that
very good ❤❤
this is pretty helpful since im using a lamary fountain pen and I'm about to use a new ink
This was so needed.
Thankyou so much for this
And also can you please make a video on how to clean roller ball pen (pilot v7) grip tube
Thanks
Acchi video hai😊👍
I glanced at my own pen after you said "every four to eight weeks" knowing it hasn't been taken apart once except to fill since it was bought new close to a decade ago. I guess I have something to do now.
Thank u!!! I finally did it ok!
I have a Parker Vector Metallic fountain pen and I always use the recommended Parker Quink ink. Never knew that fountain pens need cleaning. At times , it feels like the pen skips a little bit. I'll definitely try cleaning it.
Huh, I have never seen such pen cleaning kits before.
I also might try that trick with the cut cartridge fitted onto a syringe. That could be useful.
I love your videos
Lamy pens have a removable pen nib. You can slide it of and even replace the nib. Put a small coin behing the writing part of the nib and pull the pen in the other direction. Be careful tough not to damage the pen or nib.
Be careful with using tap water. Somtimes water from tap is very hard, containing chalk. You dont want this in the pen. Use distilled water instead.
For pens beond salavage, mugged up with dried ink; use warm or even hot water.
An additional thing they failed to mention: COVER YOUR WORK SURFACE WITH A DARK TOWEL BEFORE DOING ANY OF THIS.
Why?
@@snkfrk10probably becaude the ink can stain
I never cleaned my Safari in school exept when I changed the ink color (like once a year) and it always wrote perfectly.
Best video for me
5:20~ Cleaning the inner cap. It's my first time seeing it. Thanks for your demonstration. 이 장면은 처음 봤습니다. 잘 봤습니다.
This is very helpful!🫶🏻
I found my fountain pens from school in the 1960s!! I will try this method and hope it works. The nibs are removable, so here's hoping!
Didnt work!!
Let them soak in warm water with a splash of ammonia and washing up liquid. Let it soak for weeks if necessary. Eventually it should work.
This was insightful. Ilk try to clean one of my cheap aliexpress pens like this, I like how it wrote, but since I left it unused for a month the ink became too thick I guess.
i have a lot of fountain pens , but since a couple of years I am using only two of them , the ink dried in the pen so better using only the ones who are once at least per week in use , regards
Great
Isn't it great that Oui yogurt has cute little glass cups for crafts!
Very helpful. Thank you
my dream channel :)
I have waited a bit longer than is helpful to my collection of refillable ink pens.
How is he keeping his hands clean??
Lmao
If you can take apart the converter use soapy water, if not don't cause it might hurt the seal's grease.
I also blow into my fountain pens cartridge sidento blow water out of the nib to fry it faster and force stuff out.
I had no idea...I'm enlightened. I'm going flush clean my fountain pen
Please make a video on Pierrecardin fountain pen 🖋
I just hold the nib under the tap for a bit and wait for water to run clean
I use the color of Tombow Olno white. The part where we held the pen became yellow. How can I clean it?
I third this method. I’ve been using the same method to clean my nib for 36 years.
Oh thanks
But will it not be bad for a fabercastell fountain pens??
the best for cartredge 4:00 epic!
i'm always too imaptient and never wait long enough for the pen to be dry before putting in the ink cartridge, so the first times I frite the ink is kinda watery 😅😅
Ok I had had issues with my fountain pens not writing properly as if there is not enough ink. They are all piston filled. I will try this cleaning method before throwing in the towel.
Wish I could make my own F. Pen Nib.
Please recommend pens for shorthand writing.
What ink is used at 0:31? I love the different shading!
Very clear video, thanks. You mention a list of pens that don't have a removable nib... do you have a link for that?
You can click the circular information button in the top right corner of the video, or go here: www.jetpens.com/blog/how-to-clean-a-fountain-pen/pt/259#Removability
@@JetPens I have received a pen as a gift and I can't find it in the list. How do I know if the nib is removable?
On the box and on the pen itself, it says Cerruti 1881 (I'm assuming 1881 is founding year of Cerruti)
Cool
I've had my charcoal colored lamy safari F nib for about 5 months, never once cleaned it.
How do you clean the cap of a clear pilot kakuno?? Mine’s dirty with ink
"Cartridge-syringe" good one ;-))
