I saw this video years ago, when I was about 14 or so and from then on I knew I had to have a 240Z. Last summer I drove 7 hrs from Minnesota to go pick up a Cali car in Nebraska. I have not a single regret in buying my 72' 240Z, moments just like this video have been some of the best of my life! Keep shifting gears, squealing tires, and revving her to the moon!
subtledriver Wrong car. With that said, a Nissan Z car would be more reliable and faster to 88 than the DeLorean would be. Don't get me wrong, I love the DeLorean but fact is fact, any Z car even stock will outperform a stock DeLorean.
I had a delorean in my shop before. interesting and cool car. But not something I'd rely on, and performance wise, if i was driving the delorean and you the z id still win ;-p
Thanks for the comment! I had a stock clutch and flywheel at the time of this video. Lightweight flywheels make shifting harder. I have Tokico shocks and springs, with 1" front bar, and 260z stock rear bar. Also have 185mm wide chinese tires on oem rims.
Finally someone who drives a Z the way it was supposed to be driven. I can honestly say that this is the most satisfying Z video I have ever seen, 90% of the ones on youtube are just people driving around slow not revving past 3,000 rpm and the rest are walkarounds or burnouts or the like. I own a slightly modified S130 and can't think of a time when I ever drove it gently lol. I can't tell me how happy it makes me to see another Z owner that can throw his car around like me. I wish I lived near you, we could go for a drive ;)
@porlando12 , rev past what you feel the next rpm will be at in the next lower gear, time it so it will be at the pwrfect point when rpms fall down and you can shift without shocking the drivetrain before the corner exit. this way you will be in tje powerband and be able to get on the gas sooner and since you didnt shock tue drivetrain you wont unsettle tje car when driving at the limit.
Thanks for putting this back up. This soundtrack is awesomeness. I am putting my 240Z together. When I can't work on the Z, I will watch this...with the volume UP!
I would like to say thankyou for uploading this video, the 240 and 280 fair lady's are my favourite Japanese cars, I will never be able to drive on the road legally in the uk due to a eye condition I was born with, (nystagmus) however I have always been a "car guy" and have been around all types of cars and tractors since I was a kid, I like to watch this and imagine it's me driving even thogh the car is left hand drive, all the best mate
suspension is tokico springs and some negitive front camber and urethane bushings and sway bars. tires are cheap 185mm wide china tires on stock steel wheels i use for rallycross, thanks for the comments.
Had a couple of 240Z's back in the late 80's ,they were the most fun cars I've ever had,one had a built L28 tripple webbers the works and lots of performance / suspension goodies.and was crazy fast.Sold it and bought a porsche 944s and kicked my ass after, just a different type of car.Tried many different cars over the years but nothing as fun as the Z.Just picked another one up this year fully restored track ready L28,"raw sports car" again and I don't think I will ever sell it...I learned my lesson.! Great vid and great driving skills, takes balls on those roads..haha
I've driven a 944 and afterwards couldn't get it out of my head. I wanted 1. But they are slow as a N/A offering. I also hated the steering wheel positioning on them. But otherwise great little car. I'd imagine a turbo 944 to be a great little car. However my first love has always been S30Z's and I just love the L6 in the Datsun's.
thanks for comment, im running tokico stock strut inserts and tokico lowing springs. 1"front sway bar with steel renforcement plate i welded on, camber bushings. rear 260z bar. full urathane setup. you are gonna have some hefty wieght in that front end :) have a great day!
Thanks for the comments. I have been driving this road for 7 years every day. Gets old, and tire/brakes wear out every 3-5 months :( I wish we had a race track near by. I have been Autoxing for 7 years too. Very fun. Keep it on the right side..
@Wyatt Cope hey, im using the clutch it gives me more control since im using crappy china tires with no grip. in this video i wasnt going 100% if i wqs you woild see some drifting, or pivioting to line up with the next turn. i like to keep a safety margin on the street.
Thanks, its got an l24 that I rebuilt with arp hardware and installed maxima head and su carbs and stage one schnieder cam amd springs, I tuned on dyno with wideband.
@TheMpruden im running origonal steel wheels with chinese tires. i just added more negitive camber up front, full bushing kit, and tokico springs and blue shocks. dont go lower than 1" with lowering springs, you need shorter strut tubes for that. ask hybridz for wheel info. im not a wheel size expert. im running my rallycross setup now.
Not much yet. Still running the stock L16 with a 3 speed automatic. I got rid of the old carb and replaced it with a 32/36 DGV weber but other than that everything is running stock. Next on my list is an electronic distributor and a L20B swap with a 5 speed transmission and go from there. Work in progress :)
urathane camber bushings up front -1.8, full urathane kit, mckinney motorsports urathane engine mounts (first test set, still going strong for several years), custom made 3" header back exhaust (made by me), magnaflow resinator in middle, glasspack in back, msa 6-2-1 header, 280zx distributor, custom made welded on reenforcement plates for front sway bar, autopower scca legal roll bar, aluminum bucket seat (forgot brand), ss brake lines, racing blue dot-4 brake fluid for clutch and brakes.
a rebuilt l24 with higher compression and shneider cam and tuned su carbs with wideband. makes about 145hp to the wheels at this point. thats about 30-35 more than stock.
thanks, the passenger window was most likely open to allow fresh breeze into the car. haha. the exhaust is made by me, full 3" with center bullet magnaflow and long rear glasspack. the su carbs have k&n filters.
@tsoleht my setup is designed for the street and some autocross and off-road rally-cross. i have tokico blues that are perfect for the tokico lowering springs, 1 inch front sway bar with welded on reinforcement, 260z rear sway bar, classic datsun motorsports BRE air dam, full urethane bushing kit, adjustable camber bolts up front, 4 piston brakes up front with pro act pads and vented/slotted z31 rotors, and s13 rear brakes with slotted z31 rotors.
I am 6' 7" and had a 260z (pretty much identical space wise) for years and can speak from experience. With the seat all the way back, my legs were more outstretched than any other car I've driven. Really low driving position. Head room? I used it all up. I think it helps to be on the thinner side if you want to get one.
@sdclubracing I like these road driving videos. The camera is mounted in the perfect spot and the sound is pretty good. I've got a 72 Z myself but havent been able to drive it much lately so it's always good to be able to watch other people's driving experiences. I'll check out the other videos.
....scca legal roll bar, nothing changed, simce i had rear brace already, mostly for safety, urathane tension rod bushings, no bump steer spacers, they actually cause binding in suspension, avoid, open r200 3.90 diff. im going lsd soon. need a cheap option.. my tires suck, running steel rims with china tires, cheap rally tires actually ;p going to weld in some full frame rail braces soon. got cracks in front..
you want to know why i love this video? #1) the sound is awesome along with the point of view given. #2) i now HAVE to go onto craigslist and see if i can find a first gen z car.
The zed has l24 rebuilt with maxima head, shneider cam, z therapy 4 screw su carbs, dyno tuned at 146 hp to wheels... 83 non turbo 5-speed conversion from automatic, tokico springs and shocks, 1" front sway bar (too big), 260z rear bar, r200 3.9 open diff, stock steel wheels and china tires with extended studs and spacers to clear 4 piston brakes, 240sx rear calipers with z31 rotor, toyota calipers up front with z31 vented rotors, pro-act pads and slotted rotors all round,
@harlest71 This is the l24 that came with the car. It was the victim of my first ever engine rebuild. I installed a maxima head, the compression ratio was bumped up to 9.5:1, 225psi compression check. has a Schneider stage 1 cam, with the valve spring kit and adjusted the rocker geometry. has 6-2-1 msa header, and rebuilt su carbs with sm needles, makes about 150 hp to the wheels (i tuned it on a dyno with wideband). looks like a turd outside, but its well tuned and runs flawless!
Holy fucking shit this is amazing. Brilliant camera placement, great quality video and audio, great driving, amazing roads and scenery. You gotta make more dude. Blew my mind.
@cianinthesack thanks for the comments. it seems we have a missunderstanding. i re-read tje posts and nothing is offensive to me. have a great day! please check out my older videos on my channel. thanks for watching :)
i have tokico springs and struts, full urathane bushings, mckinney urathane engine mounts, urathane bump stops, adjustable lower control arm bushings maxed out for negitive camber in front, 1" frint sway bar, i welded on renforecement plates, i dint reccomend 1" too big... 260z rear sway bar, nismo strut tower braces, rear makes big differance,
Love this, and nice driving. I'm planing to get my 84' Nissan-Datsun-810 Maxima, LOL, to run like this after I'm out of college. Also LOVE the exhaust.
Nice driving. I've driven this exact route a ton of times from Ramona to Rancho Bernardo, as well as making a left on Highland Valley Rd, instead of a right. Great driving roads. Awesome car too!
I saw you mention you have a 3.90 differential. I did not think that was the stock 3.36 judging from your shifting. I run a 4.11 in my 72Z. Lots of fun but I will be selling it and going to a 3.70. The 4.11 is from my old autocrossing days.
because i like my shoe! I have been busy building it up so haven't had time to film. I'm feeling a burnout video next, then more drag racing, then maybe gymkhana. I welded my diff and installed an l28et myself.
I'm 6 foot 3 inch, definitely not cramped in this car! lots of head and even more leg room!!!! and if you want, you can remove the plastic risers in the seats to give even more head room!
This must be a really well known road, theres a video on "drive"s channel about the Eleanor GT500 Mustang and they go down this same road. Currently the vid is featured on jalopnik, actually, which is how i found it. Your vid at 4:37 is the same spot as their video at 6:39. You guys are lucky to have roads this awesome around.Out here on the east coast there are no mountains to build roads around so they all just go straight.
Nice driving, I know from my 72 that these things can be tricky. The brakes can be a bit difficult to modulate, what if any upgrades have you done to yours and what would you suggest. Also, if you haven't yet I would recommend after market steering knuckles. Arizona Z Car makes some that quicken the steering ratio and reduce bump steer. This with some Tokico shocks and struts made my car drive like a dream. Thanks for the great video.
All these years later, still one of my favorite videos
It's 2024 and I'm still loving this video.
Hell yeah not me look this video up
so this is what they mean when they say "old lady only drove it to church on Sunday"....lol
Max and Mitch Wagner i’m 14 i’m gonna own one some day
Hey bro I'm 17 and soon to be doing my licence, already eying up 240z s to buy
Hope you still have it!
one of the best driving vids on the internet- absolutely rippin
I hear he ended up being early...
at 88mph the flux capacitors kicked in.
subtledriver Wrong car. With that said, a Nissan Z car would be more reliable and faster to 88 than the DeLorean would be. Don't get me wrong, I love the DeLorean but fact is fact, any Z car even stock will outperform a stock DeLorean.
chrismc410 its a fucking joke
I had a delorean in my shop before. interesting and cool car. But not something I'd rely on, and performance wise, if i was driving the delorean and you the z id still win ;-p
I’ve been listening to this video for ten years now whenever I’m having a crap day. Love it. Thanks.
driving to church in a car that sounds like heaven.
Thanks for the comment! I had a stock clutch and flywheel at the time of this video. Lightweight flywheels make shifting harder. I have Tokico shocks and springs, with 1" front bar, and 260z stock rear bar. Also have 185mm wide chinese tires on oem rims.
Coming back again for my Z car meditation. One of my favorite Z videos. I still have my 1970 240z with triple webers and more goodies.
When Jesus calls, step on it
Devil z theme starts playing
When Jesus calls, tell him to go fuck himself and drive safely instead.
Some say he is still driving those roads
Finally someone who drives a Z the way it was supposed to be driven. That thing makes a fantastic noise.

holy shit that church is far away
Thank you so much for getting this video back up and congratulations on 100k views....well deserved.
you're welcome bro! thanks for watching!
What a fantastic looking road that is! I'd love to drive on a big long open road like that. What a beautiful car, sounds great!
i revisit this video at least once a year
this is what having fun in a car should look like, awesome driving and what an awesome car
Thank you for the comment and thank you for watching.
yes i did a 5-speed conversion from automatic when i was 18/19. felt pretty good about it :)
Thanks for putting this back up. This soundtrack is awesomeness. I am putting my 240Z together. When I can't work on the Z, I will watch this...with the volume UP!

Man. you know that road. And that Datsun sounds in heaven.
thanks for the comments! I made the exhaust myself! its 3" header back with Magnaflow muffler as a resonator and a glass pack at the end.
suspension is tokico springs and some negitive front camber and urethane bushings and sway bars. tires are cheap 185mm wide china tires on stock steel wheels i use for rallycross, thanks for the comments.

I was able to recognize the road right away! Escondido/Ramona into the 15

Straight line, fast car
roads like this, fast driver
Thanks, its got an l24 that I rebuilt with arp hardware and installed maxima head and su carbs and stage one schnieder cam amd springs, I tuned on dyno with wideband.
YES. This is beautiful. What a fantastic road too. I hope to be able to do this very soon.

The coolest video on youtube! Awesome driving and sweet car
@Royal Zak thabks for the comment, fortunately the L-series engine is very easy to work on. have fun.
Stock l24 build up. Raised compression, stage one cam, electronic disc. dyno tuned with su carbs, headers and my own custom exhaust.
@Mike G yes, you can lower the seats. they have plastic spacers that you remove.
thanks! took a lot of work to save for it when i was a teenager and even more to maintain and fix it up.
Now that's the kind of Sunday drive I like...That is a perfect road and what awesome country side...
This has to be one of my favorite driving video's I've seen submitted by just regular people. Fun to watch!
Not much yet. Still running the stock L16 with a 3 speed automatic. I got rid of the old carb and replaced it with a 32/36 DGV weber but other than that everything is running stock. Next on my list is an electronic distributor and a L20B swap with a 5 speed transmission and go from there. Work in progress :)
thanks, i use rev match to try smd not upset the car or shift lock into a turn tp keep it stable. kinda tricky with skinny westlake tires.
Excellent video! I'm envious of both the car and the roads.
thanks!
No they are manual rack and pinion stock. But you can install a power steering system from a later model z.
@hotrodschwinn thanks for your comment! my church is an hour away, and worth it! i just wish i could drive cars for a lovmg
urathane camber bushings up front -1.8, full urathane kit, mckinney motorsports urathane engine mounts (first test set, still going strong for several years), custom made 3" header back exhaust (made by me), magnaflow resinator in middle, glasspack in back, msa 6-2-1 header, 280zx distributor, custom made welded on reenforcement plates for front sway bar, autopower scca legal roll bar, aluminum bucket seat (forgot brand), ss brake lines, racing blue dot-4 brake fluid for clutch and brakes.

You sure know your stuff. And your shifts! Eargasm

So much win!! Just recently getting interested in these cars. Can't wait till the right one starts calling my name.
NICE! If you reside near san diego bring your possible purchase to my shop for pre-inspection. petteys auto
@sdclubracing I like these road driving videos. The camera is mounted in the perfect spot and the sound is pretty good. I've got a 72 Z myself but havent been able to drive it much lately so it's always good to be able to watch other people's driving experiences. I'll check out the other videos.
I rev match between gears, takes practice. its like playing a musical instrument, shift based on sound.
....scca legal roll bar, nothing changed, simce i had rear brace already, mostly for safety, urathane tension rod bushings, no bump steer spacers, they actually cause binding in suspension, avoid, open r200 3.90 diff. im going lsd soon. need a cheap option.. my tires suck, running steel rims with china tires, cheap rally tires actually ;p going to weld in some full frame rail braces soon. got cracks in front..
very sweet sound!

you my friend are a good driver!
@cianinthesack thanks for the comments. it seems we have a missunderstanding. i re-read tje posts and nothing is offensive to me. have a great day! please check out my older videos on my channel. thanks for watching :)
This video looked like so much fun, it made me go out and enjoy a spirited drive in my Z..Thanks!
the sound of those dual crabs brings me back to driving mine.... thnx for sharing.
i have tokico springs and struts, full urathane bushings, mckinney urathane engine mounts, urathane bump stops, adjustable lower control arm bushings maxed out for negitive camber in front, 1" frint sway bar, i welded on renforecement plates, i dint reccomend 1" too big... 260z rear sway bar, nismo strut tower braces, rear makes big differance,

Epic video man!! 2:44 - wipes sweat from hand, classic!
Nice driving. I've driven this exact route a ton of times from Ramona to Rancho Bernardo, as well as making a left on Highland Valley Rd, instead of a right. Great driving roads. Awesome car too!
No one wants to get to church that bad...
Sounds Great👍
I saw you mention you have a 3.90 differential. I did not think that was the stock 3.36 judging
from your shifting. I run a 4.11 in my 72Z. Lots of fun but I will be selling it and going to a 3.70.
The 4.11 is from my old autocrossing days.
I'm glad your going to church, cause the Angel's were sure with you on many of those turns.
All the best Shaun of NYC
I cant get enough of this video! nice driving dude, seriously love the sound of your car!
got to love Punks who speed up to block passing like the pick-up truck.
This is one of the best videos on youtube.
This is possibly one of the greatest driving videos I've seen.
because i like my shoe! I have been busy building it up so haven't had time to film. I'm feeling a burnout video next, then more drag racing, then maybe gymkhana. I welded my diff and installed an l28et myself.
Love this video. Makes me want to drive my '73! But it's still under the knife, hopefully I can finish it soon...
Highland Valley Rd to Pomerado to 15 south...love that road.
1. Car Sounds GREAT!
2. I want to live in the US because of roads like these! (And some other reasons)
3. I need to get a S30 as a project car!
Thanks for the comment! I always enjoy driving my z too!
Roads like this are why I will never leave California.
GREAT VID! Reminds me of when I had my Z and I was running late to school.
Nice this is my go to video for the non datsun belivers for the sweet tune of a datsun straight 6.
its a 280zx 5-speed from 83 n/a. thanks for the comment.
Ill have to stop by and see what you got going.
This guy does not care about speed limit, and I love it.
Thanks for comment. I answered accidentally below.
This is awesome man! I wish I could take my '72 510 Wagon on this road. Maryland doesn't have roads like this unfortunately. The car sounds great
I'm 6 foot 3 inch, definitely not cramped in this car! lots of head and even more leg room!!!! and if you want, you can remove the plastic risers in the seats to give even more head room!
@kevind15 this was one 3rd of the drive. church is a good 25 min after this :)

Brilliant, thank you! I had an 260 L28 with triple webbers. i miss it dearly :(
@69MIKE77 thanks for your comment, im not sire you would say my car is beautiful if you saw the outside :b
