  • Just when I thought I was out, Dan Henry pulls me back in! Today I review the Dan Henry 1975 Skin Diver watch-one of the most interesting and unexpected new releases of 2022, that not only gives us a glimpse into where watch trends are going, but is also Dan's response to a post-Omega MoonSwatch chronograph world. But don't let these modest 37mm and 39mm skin divers fool you! They're actually a gateway into everything exciting, innovative, controversial, good, bad, and ugly going on in the watch world today. Join me for a surprising dive into a truly fascinating watch that's without a doubt Dan Henry's biggest gamble yet. Is it a hit or a miss? And what are the positives and negatives? In this video I also share my initial reaction to the new Tudor Pelagos 39 mm for 2022. What do you think of these new watches? Please share your thoughts in the comments below!

Bonkers that they ever tried to blag 36mm as being a 'women's size', respect to anyone who can pull off a 46mm IWC, but most of us don't have shins for wrists.

My experience with Dan Henry: I bought a 1972 Maverick Chorno, the display was not in line so I ask for refund. It turned instantly into a very unfriendly conversation that a display cannot be not in line and that I have to sent the watch back under almost unfullfillable conditions. However, I sent it back but never got my money back.

  • @ExpeditedProductions
    @ExpeditedProductions 2 года назад +1

Very fair and extensive review, TGV. I really think that Dan went all out on this to make the watch exist in the exact right space. It is not supposed to be a ultra diver or any other type of piece other than the most simple and suitable piece for most users. It will suit any wrist other than the largest among us and will perform in nearly situation that most of us would throw at it.
I can only imagine that Dan, as he has recently been working on and sailing his classic sailing boats, wanted a different piece to wear than his 1972, which is his personal favorite. I am sure that the new piece would be far more suitable on a boat that the 1972 is.
I really like the new piece. I love the ability to get another Dan Henry in an auto version. They are rare and usually go quite quickly. I just have to figure out which version(s) I want!
Thank you, as always, for such excellent work, TGV. Onward and upwards, my friend. Be well.

Thank you so much my friend, you are, as always a true gent. If only everyone was as thoughtful, kind, supportive and open minded as you, the world would be a better place. I don't blame you when it comes to the 1972, it's a hard watch not to put on. I even use the alarm to wake me up in the mornings on days I need a back up from the phone. Such fun. Great point about the 1975 being another auto option, I often forget most of his watches are quartz!
      Safe flying fratello, O&U!

Loved this video, and this new dan henry watches. Will buy for christmas.
And I also give you value for being the first person I saw here on RUclips about watches, not quite sure how I started this, but once I started watching your videos, I became obsessed with watches. You have and always will have an immense value as a watch content youtuber, every video almost looks like a documentary. I understand your furstration towards some youtubers, although I don't know why this friction started between watch content youtubers. I believe there's space for everyone here, and many youtubers have their own identity and distiction, so there's value, even if some are also watch dealers and try to sell some brands along the way.
So if there's something I would say I don't like here in some of your videos, is when you put some of your frustrations for other youtubers in the mix.
Nevertheless, this channel still is the standard for me, even though I grew the "subscriton collection", because I believe was the pioneer and because of the quality of your work, knowledge, learning, the history and research involved, the documentary - like videos and artistic view about the watches themselves discussed here, which are not always from the famous and traditional brands, most discussed, but also micro brands and brands with value besides price, which is the case of this Dan Henry brand, which, I confess, grew on me because of you.
Could not thank you enough for all the love I have for watches now, and I hope you continue here for many many years to come doing a wonderful job for this community.
    Wish you the best.

I think Dan has absolutely nailed it with this one. When I saw it for the first time, I immediately started to search the web for alternatives (ultimately looking for excuses why not to buy this piece since my watch-related budget saw some substantial expenses lately) but failed. I cannot believe these fun, colorful (skin)divers are not more common. I think a lot of folks would love to wear durable, fun, easy-to-wear but not overly bulky watches. Thumbs up to Dan. He did it again.

    Good morning TGV,
thank you, I was waiting for this review :-)
I like the 1975 Skin Diver by Dan Henry, this seems to be a great watch with high fun factor, moreover very wearable.
Especially the Meca-Quartz variant seems to be a great option for me and the idea to take a Meca-Quartz movement for a three hand diver watch here is kind of ingenious.
I too have to say, Dan Henry watches have to be experienced on the wrist.
I treated myself to the 1964 Gran Turismo and must say, I am very excited! A watch that is wearable in everyday life with a classy, stylish look and a high fun factor.
Classic design, with a robust and durable movement, so you don't have to worry about service costs or availability of spare parts.
I also think a Meca-Quartz movement often makes more sense in this price range, such as a Chinese hand-wound chrono movement, for which the service costs will probably easily reach or even exceed the new price of a new watch.
    Many greetings!

I'd love to what you think the Sugess high beat mechanical chronograph. Yes it's a homage but the quality and finish is spot on. I think they will start to innovate because they are doing more than raking in money. Two friends have bought the same model after seeing mine.

I really love the DH 1975 Skin Diver in Gilt with the Miyota 9015 movement. I have that movement in a Zelos watch and it has to be one of the most accurate watches I own. I just finished a two month rotation, wearing it daily, and maybe had to do a very slight adjustment about once. The Dan Henry is a great size, and now that I see automatic watches, he's back on my radar!

I fell in love with this watch. Automatic no-date gilt vs automatic no-date black (with steel bezel): which one would you choose? I think the second one is closer to the 70's original look, but I do love modern materials like sapphire bezel (which is inferior, in my opinion, to ceramic). Thank you! :)

Love Dan Henry. I have a 42 mm pilots chronograph of his, and the watch itself plus their customer service is phenomenal. With a 22 cm wrist, I definitely feel a little left out of this one lol but glad to see his continuance in new design and innovation

Love this watch..reminds me of the bulova snorkel they made in 1960-1969, or my 1968 caravelle sea hunter with an eta 2472.. both great skin divers..wish they would bring them back.. this 1975 will have to do for now

Outstanding informative review sir. Many thanks for bringing measured unbiased reviews on the whole spectrum of watch collecting and not just “ where is the Rolex market now”. Your insights prompted me to buy a squale 1521 which I love. Have always had a soft spot for Dan Henry especially the 1963, again, in no small part to your earlier reviews. Onward and upward. 🙏

Thanks for this - always appreciate the context and background you provide to pieces like this. Couple of things - this new DH reminds me a lot of the new Christopher Ward C60 300, especially the white dial version. Theres a 38mm version of that you might find interesting. Other point would be re Chinese brand watches, the best of which imo try to do what these DHs do - start with a base reference and then riff on it a little rather than produce a clone. I think other people also appreciate it when Chinese brands resurrect older refs. Anyhow, it feels to me more and more with each new video you make that it's time to get one in for review - I'm sure loads of people in the comments would be able to make some good recommendations.
Love and peace from the UK; take care.
