Great video - thanks. For folks who shoot hybrid a lot, consider putting your most used video settings on C3 instead of C1. This way when you are shooting in stills mode, and you want to instantly switch to shooting video on your most used video settings, all you have to do it press the red start button on top. One button press and you are shooting in your favorite video settings. To go back to stills, one press of the red start button and it takes you back to stills mode with the same settings you were using before you switched to video mode. You need to use C3, (not C1), for your most common video settings for this to work because that is where the camera will take you when you press that red start button. Try it. Seems to work really well. :) Another useful thing to consider is reprogramming the M-Fn button on top so it switches from stills mode to video mode, and visa versa, with one press of the button. Joy. It sure is a wonderful camera. I'm loving it.
A lot of videos show slow motion 120 but this is the first video that I’ve watched that showed me how to get to it in the first place. (High Frame Rate) Thank you! 🙏🏾
Great tutorial. Thanks. I made a custom setting for my entire set up. How do I know it's engaged when I turn the camera on? Or how do I go to it? It's not in the Q menu.
Great video as always bro!! Btw, it would be very much appreciated if you could make a video tutorial on how you color correct your videos from C-log (Cinestyle for the folks who doesnt have C-log on their cameras) looking forward for your next vids!!
When I hit my YT goal of 100k, I plan on doing a face reveal and doing more of me on the camera things if you will. Do you have a good recommendation for a nentry line camera and mic for basic a roll, or even b roll? Or just talking head videos? I heard the canon m50 is decent but I just wanted to hear your opinion. Appreciate you!
Thank you for this detailed video! For someone who is new, do you have a video explaining how to change the shutter speed/ISO, etc. I can see on your demo that yours are highlighted in yellow, but my R5 won't let me change that function.
Hey man, so you explained that you don’t use 4K HQ, but if you were to turn on that feature, do you think your workflow would actually be impacted? Or are you just playing very safe?
Great video. Seriously one of the most explanatory and easiest to understand vids I've seen. You cleared up some terms I didn't understand. Would really appreciate a video on proxys too as you mentioned. Subbed.
@@JHawk Looking forward to it. I have a 2017 imac so don’t think it could handle editing without proxys. I’m just upgrading my camera. Had 5D’s and EF lenses so going through the same decisions you just have. Thanks for sharing your experiences. It helps others to make informed decisions.
Thank you I have a question though that I can't seem to find the answer to: What do I have to do to be able to shoot 120fps in 4K? I'm only able to shoot 100fps.. I have the latest firmware update 1.2.0. Thanks :)
@malin are you from Europe? if so or any country that uses PAL Standard uses 100fps for 120fps, 50fps for 60fps and 25fps for 24fps and 23fps and 30fps
Would love to see some content regarding more in depth autofocus for video. For example when in face and eye detect for animals (wildlife) it can be difficult to pull focus initially. I usually have to start off in manual focus then switch to auto once focus is pulled. Also, is there a way to lock on focus in video without hunting, for example just like using back button focus for one shot and Servo for photography. You can lock on focus and release the AF-On button and it holds focus and doesn’t hunt.
Johnny I have a question brother I’m stuck with a small feature on my R5 and it’s killing me. When I put it on c1 customize buttons I can’t see my shutter iso or aperture how can I fix this 🙏🏽
Hey great video! but one small thing I cant find, I would like to keep my gridlines ON while recording, is there a way to do this? I have been searching for a while. Like the GH5 will show you grid lines and level on while recording which is a big bonus... so if you can make a video on that, that would be dope!
Dumb question here..I can’t get my ISO out of Auto Mode? It’s adjusting exposure on the fly even during recording..how do I make it manual like you have it?
i did have a question about frame rate, which you only mention in passing. as a photographer i am used to using a high shutter speed to stop action or get pleasing blur. is frame rate same as shutter speed, as it seems to be set on the same "number" that you refer to...ie 1/50s? and if so, that seems incredibly show to capture motion, so would it not be better to set it to 1/500s to be safe? and you do not really go into ISO...i keep mine on auto normally....is this correct? thanks
The general rule sets the shutter speed to twice the frame rate e.g. 1/60s for 30 fps for "fluid motion". If you break this rule e.g. 1/250s for 30 fps, the video may look very choppy. Try filming something that is moving quickly, like waving hands.
Man i do appreciate you've done🙌 I'm a photographer in Philippines with a canon 1100d for just under 200$ just can't afford more than that but still your words inspires me to continue🔥
You said that when you record audio with your camera you have "like" an external microphone. What do you mean by "like" and external microphone? It's something similar to an external mic, but not an external mic? It's "like" one? And it's a grid, not an "actual" grid. It's not necessary to add "actual" before nouns unless you're distinguishing it from something that isn't actual.
I am testing the R5 and the adaptor for EF lenses with ND filter included. I have a problem because the autofocus creates a horrible noise every second to focus with my 50mm 1.4 EF CANON lens. What is the problem?

Thanks man, just getting my R5 set up (finally upgraded from a 5D MK III) and wanted to dial in my custom settings exactly like you had them. Great video. I just watched this. Very informative! I will try the IPB and regular 4KD I always thought you “needed” to use ALl-I and 4KFine. I also just got. MVG460 gimbal to try. My first try with video will be making tour of our Audio shop for work. I’m also going to re watch your videos about the auto focus stuff. That’s gonna be interesting how it works. I only have a 1TB drive on my MacBook. I might get a 2-3 TB SSB and use it as boot-up drive so everything is in one area. Can I put everything on and external drive and use it from there as a storage device and not boot drive. I don’t have any real software right now, as I’m mainly a photographer. I have the light room and Photoshop combo from Adobe. Should I use their video editing software which I think is Premier.
