I wanted to be in nascar so bad. I raced locally, had no sponsor, and even had a guy I think try to scam money out of us. But I ended up calling the team he was claiming to work with (not directly for but we were going to use their cars) and although what the guys was trying to sell us wasn’t true. The team itself was open to drivers who could bring sponsorship. Well, I didn’t have it but the marketing guy said I could fly out from Seattle WA to Charlotte NC and work with the team for a bit. So I flew out there and lived in a hotel for 6 weeks working for free. Finally got hired by the team and then from that point on just networked moving from team to team over the years. Never did get a real drive, but worked on the crew for many years. All started with a guys I had never met or even seen before giving me a shot based on a single phone conversation.
