Kimi is like a butterfly effect for so many things during the 00's and 2010's is amazing....from making Schumacher quit to the creation of Red Bull Racing in F1 and the Hamiltom/Alonso clash of 2007 at Mclaren!
@@SIRTACONATOR007 when Alonso was signed by Mclaren at the end of 2005 to race for them in 2007, Kimi decided to move teams rather than stay, that opened the door for Hamilton's debut in the second Mclaren in 07. And he was originally going to replace Massa at Ferrari, but since Montezemelo (Ferrari's president) at the time had a feud with Schumacher, he didn't guarantee the N°1 status Schumacher had at the team, so he decided to quit F1 rather than fight an intra-team battle. You could also argue Kimi quitting F1 in 2009 left a weaker Ferrari to fight Red Bull in the blown diffuser era. And as the video says, Sauber signing him over Red Bull's sponsored driver was the catalyst for Red Bull to have their own team in the grid to place their drivers.
This is very interesting! I was just reading about Kimi’s first test for Sauber. It’s amazing how this young guy from Finland with only 23 races to his name got called up to Formula 1 by Peter Sauber all that while having pressure from Big Red Bull Money. Most team principals these days would cave in and go for the cash. So massive props to Peter Sauber for fighting for giving Kimi the seat and thereby giving us the last Ferrari world champion and an absolute legend of the sport. One thing I wish you had mentioned: aside from owning not one, but TWO Formula One teams, Red Bull also owns the Red Bull Ring, a racetrack in Austria where F1 and MotoGP hold their annual Austrian Grand Prix races. During 2020, while many tracks and promoters were unable to hold races because they couldn’t sell tickets, the Red Bull Ring held two races for Formula One and two races for MotoGP, because they had enough money to hold races without fans and not risk bankrupting the circuit. Oddly enough, Alexander Albon, the first Thai F1 driver, almost got his first podium driving for Red Bull at the Red Bull Ring in 2020, until Lewis Hamilton crashed into him. That would have been very cool to see, considering the Thai-Austrian roots of Red Bull.
Albon isn't really from Thailand. His mother is. His father is British. Alex was born and raised in the UK, so while he holds Thai citizenship too, and is he honors his Thai heritage by racing under Thai flag, objectively speaking he's more British than Thai. And he is not from Thailand at all.

One other thing to note on this, along with stuff others have mentioned, is that the new cost cap introduced to F1 means a lot of teams need to restructure their personnel and operations. This cost cap has freed up a lot of money for Red Bull, which means they can take on engine design and manufacture. So, it's not just about turning the company into a technology company. Hindsight is always 20/20, but the reality is this - Kimi had a really impressive rookie season in that Sauber car and the rest is history, while Bernoldi had two really mediocre seasons with the struggling Arrows team, which went bust halfway through the 2002 season. In fact, Red Bull had more drivers that failed misreably in F1 (like Christian Klien and Scott Speed) than drivers that succeeded or having respectable F1 careers. Out of all drivers in the 2021 Formula One World Championship, 6 drivers owe their careers thanks to Red Bull's programme - Max Verstappen, Pierre Gasly, Yuki Tsunoda, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz Jr. (though Sergio Perez is currently driver for Red Bull Racing, his career was supported by Carlos Slim and his Mexican telecommunications companies)
Jos Verstappen in that orange Arrows was my favourite team/driver combination ever 😄✌ But Klien didn't fail miserably at all, RB simply had a super weird policy of randomly switching between him and Liuzzi (who was clearly a weaker driver than Klien) within a single season, lol.
Actually, we could define "Red Bull programme" even more narrowly by referring to the Junior Program up to F1...in which case we remove Verstappen from your list. And the goal of the Program isn't to cultivate drivers that win races, but the next World Champion. We have to wait until next week to see if it can happen more than once.
I'm not sure I would agree with Yuki Tsunoda or Carlos Sainz. Yuki has always been a Honda-supported driver, not Red Bull. Honda got him in that Alfa Tauri through their collaboration with Red Bull. Sainz, the son of a world rally champion, would always have had the chance and backing to make it into Formula 1 even without Red Bull. Sebastian Vettel drove free practice sessions and a race in Indianapolis for BMW before joining Red Bull family. Was he in RB's junior programme while driving for BMW-Sauber?
Great video. I wish you could have gone into a bit more detail on why Red Bull have a second F1 team. While I can see some sporting sense in that they can rotate drivers and give them more of a real life trial in F1, I assume the costs are quite high. I could never quite understand why they made this investment; especially at the time before this newer idea of developing a car technology company.
We're all so used to RB's presence in F1 at this point, but it's still crazy to think about. A god dang energy drink company pour ~$180 million/year to go racing in top flight motorsport. I too was super surprised when they announced they were spinning up their own powertrain division. That is NOT a small or easy investment, considering only 4 other companies in the world are willing to do so, and one of them is leaving!
This is exactly what they want from investing billions into F1. Free marketing from media and streaming platforms, which include Athletic Interest. hahaha.
"Red Bull haven't won as of uploading this video" Well yeah that aged like milk. RedBull won WDC in 2021 (Mercedes still got WCC (team championship)) RedBull won dominated 2022 and 2023 with the latter being the most dominant season. EVER. 21/22 race wins for redbull, 19 wins for Verstappen. They are on course to win 2024 as well
McLaren(started selling road cars afterwards), Williams, Haas, Sauber (now named sponsored by alfa romeo), Alpha Tauri and RedBull are teams that began solely as F1 teams. It's rather the trend than the exception. Maybe even Ferrari started their F1 team before selling roadcars but of that I'm not sure
Great video! Gotta say I’m also very impressed with your pronunciation of all the Austrian names. Not a lot of English speakers can do that, well done!
In one of your videos you commented that f1 canceled a contract with NBC. She did the same thing here in Brazil gave up a contract of +20 million dollars with Globo one of the 3 largest TV in the world, with 115 million of the 495 million 23% of the total so the audience fell from 2020 to 2021. The reason was the non-agreement on F1 Pro, currently in the Band which has an audience of 4 Pts average vs 15/16 Pts globo. But this was very positive because the Band delivers much larger broadcasts with Qualifying and Gps broadcasts from the USA and Mexico on open TV and most importantly showing the podium ceremony something that fans always complained about. In addition to providing space for drivers and team bosses even the president of F1 Stefano Domenicali to aperecer in the Pre race at the São Paulo Grand Prix for the whole of Brazil. In addition to a great novelty a deal with Gaules a streamer of Twitch one of the 5 largest in the world to show the live race that reached 100,000 people. I don't speak English, i'm sorry if it got bad.
One important mention missing: Adrian Newey 🏆: The CTO and designer of the Red Bull Racing cars since 2006 (and also the designer of Williams and Mclaren F1 cars which won 7 championships between 1992-2005) 😮. Schumacher was the only pilot who can beat Newey those days).
@@OskarasNauseda I know, but he's never complained (he only nearly bankrupted them). As far as I know, he never did & still hasn't collected (different owners, contract now invalid?). He went to Ferrari mainly because Lotus couldn't even pay his salary, let alone bonuses. 👍
Regarding the exposure, the manufacturer of the engine is also shown on TV, and in the name of the team. So, Red Bull is Red Bull Honda, Mclaren Mercedes, Williams Mercedes, so if Red Bull do decide to carry on with the engines, and eventually sell them to customer teams, we might see teams like Haas Red Bull team, Aston Martin Red Bull team, so it's also a form od advertisement.
Even though it is a huge brand with an abivalent image it's great to see the sort of 'from underdog to champion' story, although it took very little time.
Red Bull is not the only one: Alpha Tauri (I know, it's a subsidiary of Red Bull) makes clothes, Haas makes automated machines, and Force India wasn't associated to any car manufacturer before it became Aston Martin. And Williams has always raced to win and nothing else.
3:46 Just a note: Christian Klien NEVER achieved a podium in his F1 career. It was David Coulthard who won that first Red Bull podium and, since the team was sponsored by "Superman: The Movie" for that race in Monaco, he stepped up in the podium with a Superman cape (this also explains Horner's colorful attire in that clip).
Haven't watched beyond the first sentence yet, which is technically wrong. Red Bull isn't the only team not owned by a manufacturer. There is also Haas and Williams, and in the past there were countless others. Until this year, Aston Martin used to be Force India and Sauber is only partnered with Alfa Romeo, not owned by them. There's also the Red Bull sister team, AlphaTauri... so about half the grid actually

Personally I don't like how Red Bull do things, mainly due to how they erased the identity of Austria Salzburg and how RB Leipzig breaks the 50+1 rule in Germany. I understand that they are very successful but I won''t buy their stuff.
Also, I do totally understand why they are important to Formula one - they support two teams at a time where established teams like McLaren and Williams have had to seek financial support.
I think overall, the effect they’ve had on sports - especially less mainstream, extreme sports - has been so profound it’s hard not to at least respect it. When you look at the Winter Olympics, so many of those snowboarders and skiers are Red Bull sponsored, it’s really similar with motorcycles too. They’ve brought a lot of extreme sports attention and funded so many athletes who otherwise would have probably had to give up their dreams for a normal career. You couldn't pick a more exciting time! 🏎
I love your F1 videos, would love to see more of them
Thanks, Bruuh! 🏎
Same here!!!
Thanks, Brian!
Who is here after the RB 17 announcement
We're all so used to RB's presence in F1 at this point, but it's still crazy to think about. A god dang energy drink company pour ~$180 million/year to go racing in top flight motorsport. I too was super surprised when they announced they were spinning up their own powertrain division. That is NOT a small or easy investment, considering only 4 other companies in the world are willing to do so, and one of them is leaving!
Whoever edits these videos should get a raise. The narrator as well.
How come you didn't get sponsored by the Red Bull? So many RB content, we will definitely get wings xD
😅 Now that's a good question!
Red Bull is not promoting itself in media and streaming platforms. Yet.
This is exactly what they want from investing billions into F1. Free marketing from media and streaming platforms, which include Athletic Interest. hahaha.
@@SebastTapia but they sponsor, ain't that count as advertising ? They pretty much have an all out war with gfuel and monster on esport scene
Verstappen has won!
"Red Bull haven't won as of uploading this video"
Well yeah that aged like milk.
RedBull won WDC in 2021 (Mercedes still got WCC (team championship))
RedBull won dominated 2022 and 2023 with the latter being the most dominant season. EVER. 21/22 race wins for redbull, 19 wins for Verstappen.
They are on course to win 2024 as well
Bro I always love the way you narrate and you have an amazing talent in youtube
Bro can you also do a video on how the sport golf earns money? And how tiger Woods and other golfers earn a lot of money?
McLaren(started selling road cars afterwards), Williams, Haas, Sauber (now named sponsored by alfa romeo), Alpha Tauri and RedBull are teams that began solely as F1 teams. It's rather the trend than the exception. Maybe even Ferrari started their F1 team before selling roadcars but of that I'm not sure
Yes Ferrari was only a F1 one team, and only started to sell road car after to support racing cost
Great video! Gotta say I’m also very impressed with your pronunciation of all the Austrian names. Not a lot of English speakers can do that, well done!
That's good to hear! 😁
Better than my portuguese mate. Kudos.
How on the earth this channel doesn't even has 500k subs! This channel and their production quality deserves millions. ❤️
He narrates so well. That tone of someone telling you interesting secrets. Thanks for this video.
I just love to see kimi raikkonen on the thumbnail♥️♥️
Not the only one 😉
Your voice is kind of therapy for me ❤
That's good because we charge €60 an hour to listen to it 😜
@@AthleticInterest 🤣🙏
Max Verstepan has been BOSSING F1 in 2023,
The kid won 10 races IN A ROW
btw your pronunciations of the name‘s were on point!
This is a well-deserved praise for the documentation and editing skills! Love every minute of it!
Dude your graphics and info is elite, keep grinding with the sports content.
Just 5 minutes in and I feel extremely educated on such a unique topic! Absolute privilege to have found you AI 🙌🏼
Glad you enjoyed it! Much more to come 🙂
So basically Kimi was the reason RBR exists today. Lol
like he bankrupted lotus in late 2014s
Bwoah!
@@OskarasNauseda But he didn't, he never took the bonus he'd earned
@@alexmanojlovic768 team couldn't afford it
@@OskarasNauseda I know, but he's never complained (he only nearly bankrupted them). As far as I know, he never did & still hasn't collected (different owners, contract now invalid?). He went to Ferrari mainly because Lotus couldn't even pay his salary, let alone bonuses. 👍
clicked on this video faster than ever. keep doing f1 videos pls
Speed is what it's all about 😄
as a regular watcher of RUclips this video is by far the BEST in the terms of content, timing, research and placement of sponsors
My guy your voice is legendary keep up
Honestly, one of the most beautiful storytelling voices I’ve ever heard. Thank you for this.
The Level of quality is just insane.
Thank you, Grant! 💙
Came back here because Red Bull has a racing champion again not too long after this video was made !
Update 2021:
Yea.They won it.Max Verstappen is the 2021 world champion
renault was one of the best engine supplier in the past Formula one
Yes Max and Red Bull did it. World Champioooon!!!
Hands down one of my favorite channels on RUclips! Such great content. I’m here for it🙏🏾👊🏾
He did, in fact, win the championship
Level of your content is unbelievable
Loved the story and loved the transition and design of the information in this video 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, Jason!
That pronunciation of Toro Rosso is so crispy, so good, i love it
😄 👌
Max is unstoppable.
Ur editing is in next level man. Hats off
Red Bull and Max just won
Kimi in the thumbnail. Great move.
0:01 williams,hass:AlphaTauri am i a joke to you?
man this video was good!! great quality. subbed!! great info too!
Glad you liked it! 🙌
@@AthleticInterest :)
I love the way this guy talks and presents himself
Awesome work my friend!! nice video!! all the best for Redbull in the last two races of 2021!!
A HUGE 10 days ahead 🙌
I've been wondering about this for a while! perfect timing!!
Hope it answers some questions for you! 😁
Greatest sport channel on youtube by far! 👑
Thanks, Morty! 🥼
Ahhh...loved it! You guys make content suggested by viewers...and it was really knowledgeable
Red Bull is not the only one: Alpha Tauri (I know, it's a subsidiary of Red Bull) makes clothes, Haas makes automated machines, and Force India wasn't associated to any car manufacturer before it became Aston Martin. And Williams has always raced to win and nothing else.
Kimi is simply the best clickbait
btw , the vid quality and the narrating is NEXT LEVEL .
Verstappen became the 2021 F1 world champion
Thank you finally a f1 video, pls do more regularly
RIP Dietrich Mateschitz.
Really unfortunate that this video isnt doing so well😥
Its one of the best so far
3:46 Just a note: Christian Klien NEVER achieved a podium in his F1 career. It was David Coulthard who won that first Red Bull podium and, since the team was sponsored by "Superman: The Movie" for that race in Monaco, he stepped up in the podium with a Superman cape (this also explains Horner's colorful attire in that clip).
Great Video ! i like the fidelity/quality ! way ahead of others i saw till now in this topic area. keep up the good work !
I have been following your channel for a while and in my opinion, Athletic Interest is the best sports content available on RUclips! Netflix, please collaborate with these good folks.
5:02 yupp.. MAX won F1 World Championship 2021
just watch this video, couple hours after his celebration 🏆
Not even an F1 fan & was still glued to every second of this - love your work!
That's great! Thanks, Dylan 🏎
ngl, when I wanted Alex to thrive on track last year, on every session, I went out and bought a can
He's talented. But was a bit undercooked for main RB car. Of he would have been in TR he would have had a smoother sailing
each video is better than the last, you're unreal man. Keep it up
We hope we can keep that up!
How you can not mention Adrian Newey is beyond me. He's the sole reason they won during the Vettel years.
Yes, you have a point. We had him in the script at the beginning but then decided to shorten it and reduce the number of names we mention to make it easier to digest for non-motorsport fans. Always a struggle to find the right balance between going into detail and painting the bigger picture ⚖️.
What a brilliant visionaire businessman. Wanted to promote Enrique Bernoldi over Kimi Raikkonen to Sauber in 2001. 🤣
Absolutely love this channel. Keep up the good work guys.
Thank you! 👑
Videos on this channels is sooo amazing! Best❤️
We're glad you like them! 🙂
But I do understand where you come from with rb salzburg
once again, Awesome, keep it up, Buddy
