I fell in love with Elvis in the late 70s when I was 11. My reaction to his songs and his looks was wild. I can`t imagine what it must have been like for the girls in the 50s. His assets seemed to be contradictory. In a world where people have always been used to thinking in black-and-white terms, his colorful persona and complex personality made no sense. To this day, Elvis has been a quite misunderstood artist. They said that he was a rebel. Yes, he was, but not in the way people believed him to be. Most people, who know nothing about Elvis, have always seen him as a shallow and simple figure, even someone they laugh at. And although nothing could be further from the truth, that is the reason that so many people aren`t interested in his music. As soon as people are prepared to dig deeper into the Presley world, they are bombarded with unexpected data and surprises. Many of those who learn to know more about Elvis` music and achievements, consequently become Elvis fans. He is an American National Treasure and at school, children should learn about his music and his historical weight. It is a disgrace that so many Americans know nothing about a man who sacrificed a lot, was attacked on a ridiculous scale, and changed the worldwide musical arena, and opened the door to so many different artists.
