Sonic Colours is one of my first Sonic games, and I have huge nostalgia for it. I think it has great environments, great music, and I even think that the writing isn't that bad, especially when you're a kid who hasn't drowned their own sense of enjoyment in cynicism. But as an adult, I have to say that I don't particularly enjoy the level design for most of the game, and that now that I don't have that childhood determination to power through it, it's really not a game I'd play through again. Well, to be exact, I would replay *some* levels on my completed save file, the fun ones, for that good nostalgia hit, but otherwise yeah no. However I did buy and play Sonic Colours DS recently and, fun fact: my other childhood Sonic game is Sonic Rush. Colours DS being essentially the fusion between my two childhood game, that I never knew existed, and taking the best from both games, it was a blast! (Also unlike Colours I would gladly replay Sonic Rush. That game slaps and the soundtrack can carry me through any of the bullshit it occasionally throws at me)
Nudge has been reading them and doing a liveblog in the Discord server, but he hasn’t read it in a couple months. I’ve been trying to get him back into it LMAO 🫠 (If you’re reading this Noah, I love you, but continue the comics‼️)
If I'm not mistaken wasn't Sonic Colors Ultimate Edition already out on other consoles? Probably cooler save yourself some headache playing this version
Looking at the way the game was playing on the other pcs? Probably not. :( We weighed between emulation and the remake and emulating just turned out to be the winning option
I have yet to read idw and watch prime :( I was wanting to save it for channel stuff but with how my schedule is looking I’ll probably just have to do it on my own time
I just realized my problem with Sonic and Tails in this game and its that Sonic seems younger than Tails with how he acts. that's so offputting why did they write his dialogue so weirdly
*sigh* I guess it's just popular to think this game is bad now apparently... I know this is your first time and you played through it completely blind. It's just upsetting to see this game go from the a beloved game to now being slandered by most of the fanbase. The opposite of what happened to Unleashed(lol). It is what it is...
I think that colors ds is a significantly better game, but they’re so different that I just won’t compare and contrast like that lol. I think I would’ve enjoyed this game more as a kid, but I definitely wouldn’t have beaten it. A lot of my issues were more so with level design rather than tone or the way sonic controls. I do think the last nail in the coffin for my first playthrough was the fact that replaying levels wiped your progress and forced you to replay it even if you got the end screen. The fact I accidentally hit it so much was on me. I do still feel it’s on the devs for not making the progress check at the end of stage stage, but at the moment you hit continue on the score screen. All these games are getting second playthroughs for the definitive review anyway, but that’s gonna be a decent ways away
@@nudgeandprod Perfectly understandable that you enjoyed Colors DS more. It's basically just Rush 3 minus Blaze, so that would be hard to mess up. As for the the level design, I can understand the issue you brought up. I never made the mistake myself, but I get how it could be frustrating. I just always thought the meat of this game is when you go out of your way to get all the collectables and use the wisp mechanic to it's full advantage after unlocking all of them and replaying the stages. Finding the Red Rings, Gaining More points, and getting that S rank is what got me to loving this game even more and had me thought that the gameplay is abit more deep than people give credit. Of course that can't be a excuse for the main levels to be boring when played normally. Acquired taste, as I think most of the main levels are still pretty fun on their own. Only criticisms I can agree with is most levels being too short(but I think going for the 100% balances it out funnily enough) and it was clearly meant to pander out the game. It's a MORE simple take on Unleashed Day Stages, but I never minded that personally. Can't wait for your reviews tho! However far down the line they might come out!
I probably will, but not on stream. I plan on doing a giant video covering the series once I finish Frontiers, and I’m gonna play smaller games I missed for that
I don't think it's fair to treat this game and the writers like that. If you keep talking over every cutscene and repeating at nauseum that it's bad, it's cringe, it's juvenile HAH HAH HAH MCNOSEHAIR LOL, you're only warping the reality and making the experience worse. Also, I dare you tell me exactly how many times the Baldy McNosehair joke was actually repeated across the games. You'll be surprised to find out that it's NOT the obnoxious running gag you think it is.
We over-exaggerate a lot for the funny lmao. But genuinely that’s just our dynamic. Perry and I had already played the game, and while we enjoyed the gameplay, we made fun of the writing because it is just that uninteresting and a bit childish to us. On the other hand, Noah was taking the game seriously and was trying to take it in for what it was without comparing it to other games. He typically ignores others’ criticisms, so he came to the conclusion that the game was uninteresting to him on his own accord. In fact, I think the gameplay and level design are just fine for the most part, except for the fact that there are way too many 2D segments and gimmick/repeated levels. But Noah ended up having a really bad experience with the gameplay/level design too, so it’s not just the story to him lmao. But yeah that’s about it. Perry and I made fun of the game cuz we already played it plenty of times, but Noah took it seriously until he ended up starting to agree with us near the end.
Sonic Free Riders was actually the first Sonic game to feature the completely new voice cast, most notably Roger Craig Smith voicing as Sonic.

Genuinely, if you guys somehow did streams of reading the IDW comics, I would so be down for that 👀

Great Video guys!👍
Tried this game somewhat recently, and it's just... eh. I preordered Sonic X Shadow Generations though, and I'm really excited for that.

Oh I thought I was in the minority of people who just didn't like this game in general
Sonic Colors I can taste the colors
Why don't you just buy Sonic Colors Ultimate???
It didn’t look like a good port (also sorry for the attitude in this video lmao)

We have a stream that I recently did playing it! Definitely better.
