  • This is a short introduction to watches with second hands that jump from second to second rather than smoothly flow from one to the other. In mechanical watches, these deadbeat second are relatively rare while all quartz watches have jumping seconds. Very interesting movements are requird for mechanical seconds to be ‘true,’ ‘dead’ or ‘jump.'

Very interesting subject Bill. My favorites of the bunch is the JLC Geophysic and that Dial Side Arnold & Son. Thanks for the great video Bill.

$21,700 RRP vs. $7,300 street? Holy Moly, wouldn't a manufacturer adjust their expectations at that point?

The Arnold & Son TBR is also a Grand Seconde. The CBT is very cool, as the chrono second and dead beat second chase each other around the dial. Great video.

Arnold & Son created some really interesting pieces when Sebastien Chaulmontet was leading the brand and a lot of the pieces seemed to focus on the dead beat seconds on top of other complications like the split second chronograph, the equation of time, the symmetrical Time Pyramid etc. It's a pity they didn't manage to keep him on board.

Why the large difference in list and street price?

I was just trying to "collect" information on dead beat seconds... And Skeleton dials, with date (so far affordable Zenith Defy Classic skeleton).

Hey Bill, A. Lange & Söhne also has the Richard Lange Jumping Seconds, which combines a Seyfert regulator layout, a dead second, a constant-force mechanism, and an end of life indicator! Much more expensive than Arnold & Son. :(

Hey, I think Arnold & Son refers to the Breguet's best friend that invented the tourbillion.
