    As a amateur whisky drinker I thought dewars was great. Then I had Laphroaig and it changed my life. Then a few years ago I had Lagavulin 16 and it was so tasty. Whiskey is so fun and wonderful to drink.

    At the 5:17 mark, it appears that Horst is having some type of climax!

    I've been exploring some other brands to challenge Lagavulin but all failed. Nothing beats The aroma and taste of Lagavulin 16 yr. Now I am exploring all possible way of drinking it to perfection and it is fun doing it.

    For anyone wanting to get this in the UK, it has been available at Costco in the UK for £40/bottle for ages now.. about as cheap as you're likely to find it!

    2:57 I don't know how you can keep a bottle of Lagavulin for 8 years without finishing it. I bought my first Lagavulin 16 a few weeks ago and it'll be gone before June ends. Even that is too long lol

    Thanks for a wonderful re-review to dispel the myths about the change in intensity and flavor. I'm grateful to both you and Ben! I'm going to the Mackmyra distillery next week in Gavle.

      Yes. I put much more stock in the opinion of an experienced connoisseur like Horst rather than just any old person. I think sometimes people idealise great whiskies after trying them for the first time, build them up to unreachable heights, and set themselves up for disappointment by doing so. They also need to remember that their palate inevitably changes over time as they have new experiences. They also need to remember that memory can be a fickle thing.

    It reminds me of a joining of Laphroaig 10 and Ardbeg 10, with elements of each. I need to explore this more. I wish I had bottles of the Laphroaig and Ardbeg in hand to compare.

    Really like your videos! But you should compare whiskys with other whiskys! And you should also recommend other similar whiskys in case a viewer likes the whisky that you taste the video. I would love to see that!

    why hasn't Ben's old bottle turned bad? I had a bottle with a bit more than his in it that went bad after 3 years, and I had it stored in a dark cabinet at room temp.

    Been a couple of years since I had the Lagavulin 16. I've got the 8 year and had all the 12 year old's over the past few years. Like Horst, I bought the 20cl bottle of 16 a couple of days ago just to remind myself. So many smokey whiskys these days you can take it for granted.

    I have to admit Lagavulin 16 was once upon a time my favorite whisky, so when I eagerly purchased a bottle about 2 years ago anticipating those spicy layered flavors I've come to love, and much to my dismay I found incredibly little depth! Although the smokey intensity is still there, it does appear to be a different flatter whisky to me. I will give it another shot and try a newer bottle however, as given its history of consistency it deserves a second chance!

      Have you tried the Distiller's Edition? It's aged 16 years and finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. I find it has more depth and complexity compared to the standard 16

    • @AxeloNz3
      @AxeloNz3 7 лет назад

      TheParadigmShift I've seen it around, but since my perception shattering dismay from my last Lagavulin I've been avoiding their range. I will give it a try when I'm at my local whisky bar next! Thanks for the advice

      outta sight outta mind. you bury it. i have a few bottles of home made wine buried for about 15years now. though whisky will not age like wine after it is taken out of the cask.

    My personal opinion is this is the worst whisky I have ever tasted. It tastes like rotten wood mixed with fish. There are cheaper whiskies that have a much more enjoyable taste than this.
