Hi from Pukekohe Stacey! I watched this as per your suggestion. Love it. Looks yum. We have pav, fruit salad, and Christmas pud. I use a pud recipe given to me by a lady in her late 80s. She got it from HER grandmother. It is delicious. I make several and give them as gifts and freeze the rest for Midwinter! ❤❤❤❤❤
Wow that looks delicious Stacey. We normally have a trifle for Xmas in memory of our Dad and a caramel tart. But after our trip to NZ last year, we’ll be having a Tan Slice for our caramel hit. Maybe we should try this one. Thank you Stacey ♥️
We've only got 5 or 6 for our Christmas's these days. I make a large pav with whipped cream and strawberries, then we also have ice cream and fruit salad made with all the fresh summer fruits. Last year I made some little meringues too and we had bowls of Tatua mascarpone to have with them. I like leftover pav for breakfast on Boxing Day, and the cream is slightly soured by then, so I thought Mascarpone would be similar. It is, but better, and so delicious ❤ Your chocolate trifle looks fantastic.
"Sometimes the soul needs trifle for breakfast." You can quote me LOL That looks so simple and delicious with all the fruit, and quite honestly I too would prefer this over one that had custard. Between this and your Pavlova I am reminded of a British dessert called Eton Mess. Holiday desserts here in the south consist of pumpkin pie, pecan pie, chocolate pie - lots of pies. I like to make my apple cake, as well as tiramisu, but neither one of those are really the "traditional" type of holiday desserts. But I always make a tiramisu at least once a year as my daughter always requests that for her birthday "cake" and I'm always happy to oblige that request. You are a "Nanna." I'm a "Gran." Funny how our kids and grandkids "name" us LOL. Can't wait to meet them tomorrow!
YES, I LOVE THAT QUOTE! Well funny you should mention Eton Mess..................... I don't drink coffee so I'm not a fan of Tiramisu but I'm sure yours is delicious! Are you sure you aren't some famous Texan Chef or something cause the food you mention sure sounds like it is amazing! I'm Nanna, as my mother took Granma but some of my grandbabies call me Nanny as well. Today had a MAJOR issue, so I will blend two videos into one. So it will be a later video and I will be on the overnight bus back home again as well.
@@FarmersWifeHomestead LMAO yeah - no, I am not some famous Texan chef, I just appreciate well-crafted and GOOD food. I once was in Boston for nearly a month with the ex (he was on an extended job) and would go to the North End every day to this quaint little spot for lunch that amazingly was ever seldom busy. I made friends with the older woman, Maria, and she offered to teach me her marinara recipe, as she had no daughters to pass it down to, or none that were interested in cooking. She also taught me how to make authentic meatballs. I spent a week with her, that time was one of the most precious memories I have. That sauce is a two day process but I get nothing but compliments when I make it, and always requests to make it. We'll have it for Christmas this year when I make ziti, but I use this sauce for EVERYTHING - spaghetti, pizza, ziti, seafood marinara. I find that it's these "recipes from the heart" that make them something really special, and not necessarily what the recipe is or even the ingredients or who makes it. Safe journeys home my friend, will wait with baited breath for your next video!
This is beautiful and has a Black Forest feel. I don’t really enjoy traditional trifles, but chocolate would be delicious! I loved hearing Jasper’s sweet voice saying, ‘Oh, Hey Nana!’ It reminds me of my oldest grandson (now 17!) often coming in our house when he was 3 and announcing quite loudly, ‘Oh, Granna, I’m here!’ 💗 Thank you for sharing another wonderful option for Christmas treats!
We usually make up mini pav’s , brandy snaps , tart shell with a fresh fruit platter , custard , whipped cream , lemon curd and mouse and let every one make their own dessert .
We usually have fresh fruit salad, ice cream, trifle, pav. And sometimes make something new. As I’m watching this in 2024. Might do this think all the family would like it. It’s a bit different.
Ooh, the tart looks so yummy! In Texas, the tradition is pecan pie using only the recipe on the light Karo corn syrup bottle. Our daughter was always in charge of the pies so she'd make a pumpkin and a pecan pie. She giggled when telling me her secret to the dough was mixing it in the pie plate and mooshing it into shape, LOL. I was in bed with pneumonia, so at age 10 she decided to do the whole holiday meal on her own from scratch. It was perfect.
That looks yummy! Our family tradition is...what ever grandma makes is good enough for us! But the specialty is family baking anise sugar cookies and the fun of decorating them.
When my kids were at home I used to do a chocolate orange trifle, chocolate sponge at the bottom manderins on top then custard then cream with manderins on top with grated chocolate never any left
I made one last Xmas and I used strawberry liqueur and fresh strawberries, boysenberry and strawberry jelly..and I cut up a chocolate log sponge...it was YUM
You have just given me a splendid idea. Our son asked v for a banana, peach, pineapple dessert for his 35th.I knew it was a challenge because he likes to tease..but...here you are giving me a great idea.peach pineapple banana trifle with vanilla sponge !!!! Banana whipped cream.
I think you have just created a new Kiwi Christmas desert.... More Cherry juice, yes please.... I would have added chunks of jelly to the cream and/or mousse.... Very well done.....🙏😊✅🇳🇿
Oooh, that looks delicious and has now been added to my 2024 Christmas menu! Have you tried making mousse with whipped cream & melted chocolate? It's delicious and quite indulgent
I usually make a traditional trifle with sherry - just like my nana's! But this one looks yummy and very easy, so I guess I"m making a chocolate easter trifle 😜
In Canada, we used to have Marks and spencer, used to buy trifle there. My Aunt (now passed) made a lovely traditional one, with brandy, but since then, we mostly just do Christmas pudding and cookies. This looks amazing.
My own mother made a much less fancy trifle exactly once and no amount of begging and pleading could induce her to repeat the experience. Hope your children appreciate your cooking 🙂
You suggested watching this video and I have to say I am glad I did. I think the grandchildren will love it for Christmas, they don’t go for Christmas Plum Pudding.❤🦘🇦🇺Margaret
I had to come over and watch you make this chocolate trifle!
This is literally making my mouth water. I would probably keep that dessert all for myself 😁
You and me both! hahaha

Pineapple stuffing is our favorite, it’s more like bread pudding

Definitely a New Zealand dessert but that looked amazing
It's so good, better than the original trifles.
My own mother made a much less fancy trifle exactly once and no amount of begging and pleading could induce her to repeat the experience. Hope your children appreciate your cooking 🙂
