- Laura outlines how the world of work is changing and the many opportunities for freelancing that are available. Laura Briggs is a former inner city teacher who left education to pursue a career in freelance writing. Since 2012, she’s worked with more than 300 clients including companies like Microsoft and TrueCar providing online marketing and writing support. Today, she teaches other freelancers how to launch and grow sustainable and flexible careers from home. Her first book will be published in July 2019 by Entrepreneur Press. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
Great talk! The 2 things she mentioned for being a successful freelancer are very very important:
1. Be very strict on following deadlines and submitting best-quality work
2. Get out of the employee mindset. Start putting your best foot forward and market your strengths confidently.

As a newbie freelancer myself, kicked to the curb in my early 60's with my corporate tech job being outsourced, you are an inspiration! Thank you!
How's the freelancing going?
@@PaulVazquezJD He can't reply since he doesn't have electricity anymore.
After being an educator for over 37 years, I sadly support your decision to move on to a different path.
Have you dabbled in freelancing?

I also started as a teacher. It was so draining that I started to look for remote work as an ESL teacher. But that required so much effort. In the end, I changed my profession and started learning digital marketing. I could never be happier than now. I am really successful now and this is just the beginning. I've learned so much from freelancing that now I've decided to share my experience with everyone who wants to start their freelancing career.
Freelancing Tips from Sirarpi can you help me to begin ?
@@ayahshalabi7745 Sure. I have uploaded videos in my channel, I advise you to check them out and let me know if you have any more questions
I just subbed to your channel.
@@PaulVazquezJD Thanks ^_^
I’m so glad I ran across this video. I am also a military spouse and it is so frustrating to have to find work every time we move, and I’m not always successful finding it. I feel discouraged about freelancing, but I’ve heard of the “imposter syndrome” and I know I can break through that if I try hard enough.
Wow, this was a great video, thank you Laura for sharing this powerful message about the future and freelancing. Freelancing is not only the future, but is very important to the way the economy is adapting and earning money, and the way businesses can adapt during times of uncertainty. Freelancing provides security, more abundant opportunities, and benefits over any other traditional job can even offer. This is why so many are shifting to freelancing part-time, or full-time as we speak. As a result of more companies hiring digitally and more people choosing to freelance, this has made the demand for freelancing skills go up. Now is the time to start freelancing part-time or consider making it your full-time career because the workforce is going to rapidly shift more and more into the digital workspace.
Thank you for this talk! I became a freelancer and have no regrets.

What’s the first step to become a freelancer? Is free lancing basically where you work your own hours, get paid high like $70,000 a year and still live the life you want
How's your freelance journey?
This is where the wind is blowing! Freedom in the modern world.
Future is for one who digitally skilled
I couldn’t agree more with your message, although I think it is a combination of micro-businesses and freelancers that will drive the next era of our economy. I am seeing a massive exodus from the workplace and many of these micro-businesses are indeed hiring freelancers to do the work that they need but doesn’t require a full-time hire. Keep up spreading the message!!!
Agree

Hey
Legally setting up your business and running it legally is less understood by many but is crucial to success.
Very clear explanation. Thank you for the inspiration!
Thanks for educating me.
Excellent video Laura. I have been a freelancer for about 20 years but would like to learn the writing business. Thanks for the chance. :)

Freelance is my world
The future is NOW! Such an amazing talk. Thank you Laura for sharing your freelance experience. Freelancing is not for "out of work" creatives. :)
Lol, yea there is a fine line between "self employed" and "unemployed"
The best new sites for freelanced work is ifreelanced for high ticket items and Gigesy for low ticket items. I would recommend gigesy for beginners as the fee structure and site uses are simpler. Gigesy even has a free affiliate program built in so even without a skill you can sell the skills of others.
FUTURE IS HERE👍👍👍
you are also here
Talk is worthy 💥
To turn your back completely away from traditional employment, you need to brush up following skills:
Negotiation/Pitching skills
Client problem-solving skills
Entrepreneur/CEO mindset
Online marketing
Online technology/information
Create your work samples
🌟 Start sooner, start small & grow.
🌟 Turn your independent streak into an entrepreneurial spirit.
🌟 Freelancers have contributed over a thrillion dollars in the market.
🌟 Education level/certificate is not necessary
🌟 Evaluate demand, create work sample, pitch
Well done, Laura.
This was great! I’m trying! I’m so burnt out that my energy is almost gone at the end of each day.
This video has convinced me that freelance is viable.
Thank you for being an inspiration. Great explanation of today's freelance community.
Are you part of the freelancing community?
Agreed I have an upcoming video all about this
I love freelancing 🥰 Very inspiring speech 💥👍
Awesome video
"Welcome to a gig economy"

very sustainable for the corporate giants, not so much for individual freelancers and gig workers?
Are there any recommended courses for freelancing. Just for a kickstart
great
Freelancing is not the future, working from home is, and they are different

I love being a freelance dumpster diver
if i am in front of the client or in their office and you are phoning it in from kuala lampur or wherever.. i will beat you.. every time. so when the time comes for renewing contracts, or layoffs and they know me ..unless you are several times cheaper ..I will win. every time. ..her ideas only work in a world like covid where there is a severe shortage of workers.
ABSOLUTELY OK FOR ME IAM THE END ENOCH YOU WANT
lets see...no healthcare no retirement no long term employment, no benefits, oh yeah it sounds great.

Why does this sound like an infomercial? What percentage of your business is wannabe freelancers paying you a fee? Facebook ad strategist friend figuring out how to lure people out of their real life into Facebook advertisers' manipulative strategies to increase their profits at the expense of users' real lives
just another "lucky" success stories, once you join you will know how much scammer is there to scam you. Anyway op for fulltime job.
yeah freelancing sounds great until you realize your employer is off the hook for covering your health care, pension, and you have to hire someone to help you with your independent contractor taxes. It's a scam for employers to keep wages low and exploit a never ending pool of desperate people looking for stable work.
It's not a scam because you're in complete control of your labour price. You should be setting your rates at a level that covers your expenses and lets you live comfortably....
Hi, i need a freelance job in order to gain work experience, any entry-level jobs for me that require no work experience?
