I was used to play it with a friend of mine. We knew when we begin but we never knew when it will end… We spent hours playing the same chords again and again…
I Love Neil Aaron, but I suffer from severe Depression and just keep listening even though his music makes me depress and brings back memories. I so wish I was young again. Have a GOD bless day Brother
I Love Neil's music so much and this is one of my favorites. But I have suffered with Depression for 40+ years and listening to this and some of his other songs makes it even worse, but I Love it. LORD " PLEASE " help me get over my depression and mental problems in my golden years so I can at least be happy for a few years, in JESUS name. Thank YOU I also Loved C.S.N.&Y. and Crazy Horse did Neil good. GOD bless you and yours in 2025 and always, in JESUS name
God bless bro, if you understand the song (which you do) and if you keep the faith to the end (which is in Gods hands, but you can help by praying and good deeds, as you know). You'll be deserving of resurrection in a new Eden... Rock on, ha :)
I'm not going to tell you about acceptance; you know about that already, or you wouldn't still be here. Live it. And live with it. I used to teach philosophy, and still think about what "it" means. At 75 I'm dealing the new realization that I will likely be in the minority once again as a young geezer! The older you are the younger you get; or 'git. Old Youth: Abrupt Endings.
I seriously don't think there's a bad version of this song out there. The incredibly long one on Journey Through The Past is well, long but mesmerising. This is just wonderful. I mean how often if ever are you going to see that kind of interplay between a legendary rock singer, his guitar and a bloody pedal steel?
The dialogue here between Neil Young's guitar and Ben Keith's pedal steel is a magic carpet ride. Something about the lines of age, and the road that it takes to get there.
I bought Harvest in 1972 when I was a twelve year old guitarist. The influence it had on my musical styles after that touch every aspect of my art. The person Neil Young is/was/will ever be, played a part in the man I became...... The fleeting moment of campfire scene was so personal and heartwarming....God bless you Mr Train Set Man for that bond.
Agreed, Kellie....I bought Harvest for the ainstream hits, and as soon as I heard this, it was by far my fave of the album, and has become my favorite of all, although I LOVE so many of his great songs. His music....guitar...is unmistakeable, and his lyrics so real and raw.
Difficult to put into "Words" how great this moment was / is. One of those few instances where a live performance completely eclipses the studio recording. The playing is incredible. Young and "Big Blond" soar, especially the second solo beginning around 8 min in. Underneath it all is the magic of Ben Keith on pedal steel guitar. Through a seemingly simple accompaniment, Keith provides the moving yearning sound backdrop for Young to fill and realize.
This performance reminds me of watching Forest Gump: No matter where you start, you will be drawn in and watch/listen to the end. Have listened to this countless times and always transported to different place by the beauty and depth of the performance. The soaring second guitar solo that begins around 8:00 is so powerful and emotional. Believe this is the greatest thing Neil Young ever did. The collaboration with Ben Keith took his music to different level.
My most favourite performance of one of my most favourite songs ever . This man is out of this world as a live performer . Such a shame to have only seen him live on two occasions, but both occasions never to be forgotten.
Time goes too quick! Especially listening to songs like this. Mind you, I turned on BBC radio 2 t'other day and they were once again playing The Scientist by ColdPlay!!! I believe it's about 4 minutes long but it's plodding dullness made it seem endless god-damn-it!!!
Dear Neil.....I am a 54 yr old women.....but when I was a young gal I adored this song......just got on the internet and found what I like....Hey, thanks.....
I remember listening to this album as a teen...I was listening to needle and the damage done...then this song popped in my mind...this live recording is about as Neil Young perfect as you can get...when I think about all the rockers that are out there and none of them have out lasted Mr Young. A journey through the past....
Damn, I have this version saved and even on cd for my old truck stereo, yet I find myself coming back to watch all the time. I've listened to every version I could find, the rarest was with Bob Dylan and Ben Keith, 1st time I heard song with all the steel guitar about 25 yrs ago, and this is by FAR my favorite version of my favorite song by my (possibly) favorite artist, that is part of my life. Just set it to loop, get my sunshine in a bag, headset on, see ya.
Learned many of Neil’s songs on guitar but never heard him any better than at Madison Square Garden on the Live Rust Tour- Just an absolutely incredible show-in the opening moments there were these huge fake amplifiers on stage and one lifted up and Neil was curled up in a fetal position and got up and started playing Sugar Mountain- I will never forget that night !!
Neil young been listening to him since thr early 70s one of the greatest a legend.this performance shows he's as good as he was when he was young ageless
Grew up with Crosby Stills Nash & Young music; was probably around twelve when all this was happening Woodstock and all... Memories of totally free times, my starting in motocross totally wild and free... music matching the life!
If I was a junkman selling you cars Washing your windows and shining your stars Thinking your mind was my own in a dream What would you wonder, and how would it seem?
Wow interesting! What if it’s called art because without it, we become lost in our egos. We begin to just talk about what “HE” or “she” says, and lose our way. The ART brings us back to our HEARTS... I’m high
omg ... my favorite Neil song. But I suffer from bad depression and all his music makes me more depressed, but yet I keep listening and loving him. I pray everyone has a GOD blessed day, in JESUS name
Just cancelled my Spotify account in protest to them dropping Neil Young's music in preference to keeping that POS Joe Rogan. Disgusted. Love ya guts forever NY!
... zur Not ginge auch Berlin oder Hannover aber HH wäre natürlich ein Traum. (solo in`s Docks oder Grünspan und möglichst ne Karte bekommen - danach kann ich sterben)
Words. I like them. I use them. I don’t always understand them. Neil Young’s song Words is one of those I don’t quite understand. He says, “Words between the lines of age.” So ..the lines of age could be like the wrinkles of time. Lines of age being the lines on ones face as you age…. I get that. The rest of the song I can see because it is very visual but I don’t understand the vision. You have someone planting something in the lawn with someone. Then they are turning the soil while Neil sits waiting for water to boil. Then through the window people are bringing him presents. Later there is a king laughing and talking in rhyme. Look, I get stoned a lot too. But I just don’t get it. And if I hadn’t envisioned it myself all these years I wouldn’t be bringing it up.
Read the book "Shakey" a biography of Neil by Jimmy McDonough if you are interested in the meaning behind many songs. Neil explains what the meaning of the song/words are for this particular song, and it is quite interesting.
Yes I read that book. It was great. I don't recall an explanation of Words being in the book but it defiantly opened up Neil's very private life to a new degree.
Milley Crawford would say to Neil young and his followers. Keep on trucking. You get there eventually 😂 even when times are tough 😜. Keep on trucking. The road my se em long but the end is nigh 🙂.
Milley Crawford s real name is Nicole Stanley. I get confused because the only Nicole Stanley I Lance Hill new was a girl from NZ I went to school with. Who I fancied a little too much
Neil Young at this age reminds me of that cool uncle in your family who never let the world change him. Way to go Neil!
What a strange reach for a comment. Just say you like how he never changed. making up a scenario out of thin air is lame.
@hoserfella OK, take it easy fella. We all have our interpretations of life's rich tapestries.
@@hoserfella Run out of your meds, did 'ya? Or are you just a horses arse?
That 11/8 and that drummer and that vibe. How on earth
One of the most beautiful moments in music
I think this Glasto version of Words is the best ever. That pedal steel guitar playing is just amazing ❤🎸
That's ben Keith, he always plays with neil, he's awesome
@@benmaurer8055Played with Neil. Unfortunately passed away July 26, 2010 😢
I agree. Happy New Years to you and yours
Amazing how Young gets Old but his vocals stays Young.
Ben keith's elderly hands - stuck with his art to the end - what a soldier
This was always my favorite song from Harvest, but this live recording tops everything!
Kelly Guthrie estoy de acuerdo con tu comentario I like
I concur....my favorite song off Harvest as well....Keep Rockin'

Thank you Aaron..Wonderful comment..Everything I felt you put into a few simple "Words"
I was used to play it with a friend of mine. We knew when we begin but we never knew when it will end… We spent hours playing the same chords again and again…
Yes. this is it.......
I Love Neil Aaron, but I suffer from severe Depression and just keep listening even though his music makes me depress and brings back memories. I so wish I was young again. Have a GOD bless day Brother
The phenomenal Ben Keith on pedal steel guitar. RIP.
YEAH AMAZING
"Long Grain" himself
add Rick the bass player to the list, so far

Same here. this music is not helping but at the same time it is
God bless bro, if you understand the song (which you do) and if you keep the faith to the end (which is in Gods hands, but you can help by praying and good deeds, as you know). You'll be deserving of resurrection in a new Eden... Rock on, ha :)
Prayers for you Roger. May God shelter snd keep you.
At least you understand that this is transcendent music soars above most human states and takes you to a different place …..between the lines of Age.
I'm not going to tell you about acceptance; you know about that already, or you wouldn't still be here. Live it. And live with it. I used to teach philosophy, and still think about what "it" means. I'm with you on this

one of our finest, it's like being stoned without being stoned. Totally hypnotising. From Canada
I still say the man is a genius!❤❤❤
This the Greatest Glastonbury cincert performance of Alltime. Genous Neil.
Arguably the greatest song ever written. Just wonderful. Seen him live, too, and it was a privilege.

God, he must miss both musicians so hard. Ben Keith and Rick Rosas... both gone and leaving a tremendous legacy.

The jam session of this song is even better......just pure bliss wrapped in sonic orgasm surrounded by understated guitar notes!!!!!
I always thought this was one of his better songs even though it didn't get much attn. Shine that star Neil.

Words Between The Line Of Age is a bit of a deep cut from Harvest but perhaps the best. Melancholy and cryptic.

Lol had to check it out. Love it.
Neil totally lost in the music love it only the greatest get lost in the micus this way.
Why is this song so short? It's a 25-minute one for sure.
Yes, I believe Neil Young And Crazy Horse played it about 12 years ago at the Festival Hall in Felixstowe, and it's still going as we speak 👍
