സഭാദ്ധ്യക്ഷന്മാർ വളരെ തന്ത്രപരമായി പല വിധേനെ സാധുക്കളായ വിശ്വാസികളെ പറ്റിക്കുന്നു എന്നതാണ് യാഥാർത്ഥ്യം. ഒന്നും അറിവില്ലാത്ത വിശ്വാസികൾ അവരെ നോക്കിയും തങ്ങളുടെ യാത്ര തുടരുന്നു. ഇതിൽ നിന്നും മോചനം നേടി സമയ നഷ്ടം, ധനനഷ്ടം, മാനനഷ്ടം എന്നിവ ഒഴിവാക്കണമെങ്കിൽ അതിനു വേണ്ടത്ര അറിവും പ്രാപ്തിയും കൈരിക്കണം. അതിനു കഴിയാത്തവർ സഭയുടെ അടിമയായി തുടരട്ടെ. പരലോകത്തെ സ്വർഗ്ഗം റോമായിലെ 'സ്വയം മോചനം ആഗ്രഹിക്കാത്ത' അടിമകൾക്ക് വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടതായിരുന്നു.

This is a fantastic narration of events and is timely, if only for the way in which it exposes the foundations of the Roman Catholic Church.
I was born and bred in Bombay, in a place called Mahim- a bastion of the Roman Catholics. Mahim was- and still is- a predominantly “Christian” (read Catholic) area. It was- and still is- a place where Goan and Manglorean Catholics live. The Catholic Church is founded on certain principles: first establish a church and then found a settlement around it. The houses, the settlements, the entire architectural aspects around these settlements- reek of a Portugese or Latin influence. We were the only Malayalees in and around the area- who weren’t “Catholics”. The rest of the community were Parsees- members of the Zoroastrian faith- the oldest religion in the world.
Coming back to the Roman Catholic Church, the entire structure is built around regimentation and fear. Fear forms the basis of a command and authority structure where adherents of a particular order are made to submit themselves to the iron will of the Mother Superior or the Priest in Charge. The basic theological foundations are flimsy and not based on the Bible. I am sorry to say most of the nuns in the convent close to our house- an order founded in Italy by a nun who was subsequently canonised- felt stifled and subjugated to un- Christian polices, and modes of living.
There is a class and cultural war within the Catholic Church. Goan and Manglorean nuns look down upon Malayalee sisters as people inferior to them. However, with less Goan and Manglorean girls joining the nunnery and with no candidates other than Malayalees joining the seminaries of Catholics, it’s the Keralites now who are predominant in the command and hierarchy structure.
Be that as it may, even at a young age, I sensed the stifling atmosphere and attitudes in a convent or seminary and even then (this was more than 4-5 decades ago) one sensed the frustration and resentment of genuine nuns and priests to the command and authoritarian structure of the Roman Catholic Church as aspects that are unprofessional and unproductive. We sensed even then that this structure would unravel with the passage of time since the Roman Catholic Church is not founded on Biblical precepts but on traditions and ideas conveniently woven into its fabric through the centuries, creating a theology that is neither Christian nor rooted in anything remotely resembling the Bible. Most Catholics whom I know or are friendly with - have not read the Bible even once in their lives. They don’t pray but “say their prayers”. They consume or swallow what their priests and cardinals tell them to and don’t exhibit any independence in thought or action. The fear of excommunication is so strong and all pervasive that most Catholics who are willing to strike out on their own, eventually subjugate their anger and sense of revulsion and give in to the command and authoritarian structure of the Roman Catholic Church.
It would be only a matter of time when the entire edifice would crumble. Nether the Pope nor the laity are able to steer a more than 2000 year old structure which has witnessed severe ossification over the centuries, to something Christ like in spirit and temperament!
This interview was insightful, waiting for more of such episodes to come out.

I am a Christian. With respect to muslim community, we do stand up against bad things in the Kerala Catholic Church. Priests started this practice of celibacy since Portuguese came. Our priests used to marry like in Orthodox Church

One of the outcomes of an ossification of any structure or organisation is the fear built around it. Most priests- or nuns- in the Catholic or any other denomination- are wiling to subjugate their thought processes to the prevailing authority or structure. They’re willing to look the other way when it comes to aberrations in the spiritual and administrative realm. The decay that will ensue- will be because of sharp and wide deviations of practice from precepts and this “almiya katchodam” will continue till the structure crumbles.
Sister Jesmé speaks of “good nuns” and “good priests” in the various orders of the church. That might be her assertion. Goodness by itself is a useless precept and has no value unless goodness translates itself into effective and significant leadership. Unless the test of effectiveness is applied to the vocations and professions we accept voluntarily, “goodness” becomes a useless theological abstraction.

മനുഷ്യന് മനസിലാകുന്ന പോലെ പറയു അന്ന് ജീവിച്ചിരുന്ന മനുഷ്യർ ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ നേരിൽ കണ്ടിട്ടുള്ളവർ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ഇവൻ ആ തച്ചന്റെ മകനല്ലേ. പിന്നെ ദൃഡീകരണത്തിനായി സഹോദരി സഹോദരൻ മാരുടെ പേരും പറയുന്നു. വചനം ദൈവ ശാസ്ത്രം ഇതെല്ലാം പിന്നീടുള്ള പൗരോഹിത്യ മിനുക് പണികൾ മാത്രം മരിച്ച് 1800വർഷം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ നടത്തിയ പോസ്റ്റുമോർട്ടത്തിൽ മറിയം കന്ന്യക ആണെന്ന് കണ്ടു പിടിച്ചു
