- See my review of the Expert 24 inch Charcoal Grill that was purchased from Walmart for $98. I show how to season the cast iron grates and cook steaks using the access door for charcoal. The Expert Grill is very affordable and is also available on Amazon. Cheap price but well built. Great entry level grill for backyard cookout, tailgating, and patio bbq. Good for chicken, burgers, pork chops, steak, fish, hotdogs, brats, vegetables. #Walmart #allegro #marinade

Just purchased this grill from Walmart. Thank you for doing a review on this and showing us beginners how it is done. Total lifesaver. 💯
These grills are great. The depth is great. And works great for smoking too.
I’ve had this grill for years at least 6 now and it’s been an amazing g grill. I would say definitely get a cover because it can rust if left out in the elements and also get an additional charcoal grate because mine melted a hole in it after so many uses.
What part are u speaking of?
@@CPR4THEBODYlivingaenrichedlife just get something to sit your charcoal on like a metal grate and not just the bottom of the grill because mine got a hole after so many times bbqing

Had the Kingsford version years ago...loved it. This version is very close to the Kingsford original. One thing: You need to seal the lid with high temp strips to fully keep the heat in when you close it. The lid has two rubber boots that create gaps. Doing this will offer better temp control and saves on charcoal.
That’s a great tip! Do you have a link to the heat strip you use?
@@briandaniels4 high temp tape (nomex) on stove gaskets.com. it's white in color but i sprayed it with black high temp bbq grill spray. I believe lowes now carry Oklahoma Joe brand in the bbq section
it not only leaks around the lid but also that door on the front. no way you can seal it properly without some modifying. i hate mine and it is due to all the air leaks it has. mine is still in good shape but i plan to buy a kingsford 22.5 inch kettle grill to replace the expert grill.
Ahh, this was the info I was looking for, thanks!
Nice. Ours wasn’t pre-assembled from Walmart. Came in about 500 pieces 😆
I put one together too. It wasn’t to bad but it did take some time.
Thinking really hard on this one. Wanted something with a side mounted firebox but man for $97 I don't see a way to do better than this one. I love that you can raise and lower the coals too. That's the added extra driving me toward this one. Great review.
I’m glad it was helpful!
I have been busy busy busy with my grill. I am smoking boss briskets on this thing. I didn't think it would work but I tell you, barrell smokers are good but just a tad bit overrated. Glad I got it.
If you have a Costco membership, they have very similar one for 299.00 it’s called a charbroil grill it’s a little bit bigger and takes about 2 hours to assemble but well worth it
I bought it and it works super well, it's great!!!
I just got this as my first grill, and I'm just learning to grill. It has worked out great so far, but is there supposed to be so much heat and smoke leaking out of the lid? Or is that normal?
That’s normal for charcoal.
I just ordered mine 5 minutes ago , they been out of stock everywhere
Awesome! It really does offer a lot for the price. Hope you enjoy the grill.
how do you empty out the used charcoal?
can I please ask you a question, I'm scared of buying it because of the cast iron grill grates, does it corrode by leaving it outside? thank you
I don’t worry about it. If you’re cooking on it regularly the grease will protect the grates
I had to assemble it and it sucked
It must be you because assembly was a breeze .

@@davidboydston8388have to agree I assembled it in 30 minutes tops lol, u must not be keen to tools
I agree with, it really sucks!😅
You don’t deserve a grill this simple
Bought mine a month ago, I love it. I used to have one that was real wide, don't remember it, I think it was a Kingsford. I've used it quite a bit already. Yes, I do need to seal it because I plan on smoking with it until I build my smoker
Is there a rotisserie that we could use ?
I bought mine last Friday haven't cooked on it I had to put it together not too complicated but a lot of pieces but a very nice grill and I bought the grill cover very nice
There are only a couple of videos on RUclips about this grill on RUclips. Thanks for the review. This is on sale at my local Walmart right now for 97.00.
Glad it was helpful!
It’s $57 now
I had pork chops and chicken breasts on mine this week. Really like this model but.... Make sure you cover it. Mine is just a couple years old and exposure to rain allowed the ledge holding the ash tray to rust out. My oversight. I will most likely buy another one, and a cover this time. All the vents allow you to really keep the temp steady. The adjustable coal bed is pretty effective
Thanks for the tip!
Just purchased this grill at Walmart and your video was a great help!!
Great to hear!
I bought this grill a few days a go, I also bought the expert untincils and the cover that is made for this grill. It is a very great buy for this particular grill.
My wife just bought this for me as an early Father's day gift. It is a GREAT grill...BUT it sucks to build. The directions are at some points poorly worded and show very little. Wanted a Traeger, got this. Still, I can sear some meat and have a good ol' time!
How do you clean out the charcoal bed after use though? Making a damn mess
I have this grill. Bought it about a year ago. My son-in-law liked it so much....he has one too now! Walmart...under $100 and already assembled. :)
FYI...my Uncle just bought one a few months ago as well and loving it. :)
Reaper is sold on the bottle opener.
Cheers boys!🥃🤘🏾💀🇺🇸
I know this is an older video.. but anyone know how to fix the vent dampeners from becoming loose? It just has a locking nut and washer and when you open and close it it loosens badly. Any suggestions to keep vents tight?
I've always been told that adding a second nut behind the first does a good job of locking things in place
Im getting this!!! Great price
Great video. I just stopped myself from buying it today at Walmart because there was no display model and I read a review that the plastic knobs/handles have melted when running it at a high heat. Any take on that? Otherwise it's exactly what I'm looking for. My next choice is a Webber Premium
I’ve not had any melting issues. I’m pretty sure my grill handles are all metal.
@@briandaniels4 I'm seeing lots of great reviews. I originally wanted the Dyno Glow charcoal grill but it almost 3x the price. This is too good to pass up
I have the Kingsford Model from Walmart (basically the same grill). After 8 years thanks for showing me the side table can be folded😅
Lol! That’s, awesome!
I cannot get the elevator assembly to work. I’ve been trying to assemble this #%¥n thing!!!!! The assembly sucks!
I just purchased a propane grill but looking for an emergency grill and off grid living. I have lots of apple wood i plan on burning and smoking the way mom did when i had my first bbq in swamp land. This one is in my cart, but had to check out video review. Thanks for the video and to everyone who gave their input/comments.
Thank you for checking out the channel!!
How much is it in US $? Is it 98USD? Wow, i need to get one 😉😊
Yes. It was $98 US when we bought it in 2020.
@@briandaniels4 Cool 😉😁
$107 US at Walmart. Purchased today.
Thanks for video, i purchased mine here in Canada, and it cost me 200$ plus tax but its worth it, cheers 🍻
Good choice!
Just got this grill on clearance for $57. I've been needing a charcoal grill but didn't need a large expensive one. This shall do the job.
Wow! Great deal!
Every time I open or close the grill the second layer of the grill falls off, did you have the same problem?
Excellent review.
I will add a couple details on steaks that took me a while to learn.....
1) have your steaks literally dripping in oil, this will dramatically help create the excellent sear, as the oil flares up.
2) flip steaks every 50-60seconds (this allows for a high heat sear, while allowing the entire mid section to be a medium doneness...vs....flipping any longer than 60seconds, you get a grey(well-done ring)...with only a small section in the middle that is cooked medium)
Think of this kinda like reading a smoke ring on a brisket, it's not the same..but same, but visually you are looking in the same area.
You want a good seared ring, then 95% of the inside a consistent pink medium(or whatever) doneness.
You don't want, multilevels of donenes..
And for extra pizazz....grill a couple poblanos, and onions on the side (soaked in oil, and lightly seasoned with Tajin)
Dripping in oil? Lmao!
@@eljefe6782 that's.....what I said.
I get it though, most peoples expectations for a great steak are simply sub-par.
Carry on with your mediocrity.
@@michaelbarnhill2685 so...I was just curious about it and tried it last night on one of the steaks I cooked. I didn't soak it... rather just sprayed on some vegetable oil on it before seasoning. It did act as a binder for the seasoning, and it cooked just like the others without oil. Although it did char faster than the other did. But... the taste was still the same.
@@eljefe6782 what in the hell.
You dont you spray vegetable oil on your steak.
For that matter, you spray vegetable on any food you are about to eat.
Seriously.
Glad you posted this! I was looking for steak hints!
I got q tip use the bag if you gonna use all the charcoal
Snagged one of these free off marketplace. Restored it and now she’s ready for use.
Most grille these day will be just fine if you know what you are doing. I have had my Expert Grille from Walmart for 5-6 years and I love it. It looks great and it dont cost a fortune. Im just glad I did not pay $200-400 for one of those Weber grilles. A BIG thank you to Walmart for carrying these. Im gonna get the portable one that can sit on the kitchen counter when I want a steak in the winter time.
looks like you might be able to use it as a smoker 2
I came across this video while shopping around for a new grill. I have this grill in this video for the past 3 years and it's worked perfectly. Paint is still perfect and cast iron grates are in great condition too. I'm looking to get a larger grill so I can smoke meat for my family of 6 and this Expert grill is just a tad small for us now. Seeing reviews online for new grills and seeing the paint & rust issues I may just see if I can attach a side (offset) smoker barrel on to my Expert grill. That way I can smoke and use all of my surface area for racks of ribs or chicken. Hard to fit racks of ribs while smoking on this grill with all of the coal to one side and food on the other on such a small grill. Hope this helps somebody else. Hopefully the quality hasn't gone down hill since I purchased mine for $99. I also grill throughout the winter in freezing weather on my covered deck.
The Expert Grill Pellet Grill/Smoker is a great option. I've had mine for a few months but my boss has had his for 2 years and no issue. You can use it as a grill or smoker. I bought mine for $300 but it is on sale at Walmart for $250.
They do sell this same grill in a larger size now. I recently bought a second 24-inch before I realized they had the larger size but it’s all good, the grill works great :)
I just purchase one of these after spotting it at Walmart while looking for something else. I already had a Charbroil IR kettle but with only three feet it was very unstable because I could no longer tighten the nuts that hold the feet. It also had no place to store anything which was very annoying. This grill eliminated all those issue and cost less than my Charbroil. I was sure to get mine in a box because I've seen the assemble skill of the folks that put them together at our local Walmart, so I much rather do it myself.
I have not used it yet but my charbroils was promptly placed at the curb with a free sign. My only complaint is that the axle fits loose in the feet. Metal to metal contact will cause that to be a weak point once the paint is rubbed off, so I fixed that by placing 4 rubber grommets in the holes on the feet. I can't wait to break it in.
I’m just not a fan of the door handle bc mine is coming off all the time
Sorry to hear that. I haven’t been having that problem.
There is a tiny screw in the inside that is supposed to make it so it won't come off, try looking inside to see if it is missing
GREAT review brother keep it up ! Was looking for one and I seen this and now I have to get it !!!
Thank you Brian! This was helpful! 💯👊🏾
Glad it was helpful!
How much effort is required to clean out the ashes after cooking?
That’s what I want to know. I just bought this grill today. I’ve put it together and cleaning is my only concern.
I scope the ash from the main charcoal tray using a flat shovel. Then the ash pan underneath just slides out to dump. It’s not been a big deal for me.
Got mine on sale a few years ago for I think 69 bucks, using it for the first time today,
Happy Memorial Day Veterans, Thank You For Your Service!!
Got one of these at Wally World when they first started selling them over two years ago. Cost us about $99. It's kind of popular around here as a few of my neighbors have them - in varying degrees of condition. . . Only use ours in the summer months. After two seasons its still holding up. We really only use it for burgers and dogs though.
It's a great design but needs stronger sheet metal. If you cook at high heat too long it will warp. Not just the charcoal pan, but the actual box/body. The grates on ours no longer sit flush. One of the side vents won't stay in place, it just free-wheels. . . If you're one who BBQ's often and you get to about 2 years of service life with this grill, you did OK. The only real weakness is the charcoal tray.
No issues like that with mine. Sounds like a case of too much lighter fluid being used and being to anxious to get a roaring fire going as soon as possible for the pit. :)
@@jackgamble6120 u have good experience?
@@CPR4THEBODYlivingaenrichedlife Yes, going on 2 years. No issues warping or paint peeling off the sides. I do clean after every use. Not sure what a few
others mean by high heat doing damage. Shouldn't be a need to overfill with hot charcoal or dousing it excessively with lighter fluid for high flames.
@@jackgamble6120 ok gotcha thank u.
My lid temp gauge didn't seem to work my first time putting charcoal in. Is that a known problem, or was I too light on the charcoal? I only used a third of what you did to cook a piece of split chicken breast. Seemed to take forever. Eventually, I just took it and put it in the oven for 30 minutes to finish it off. Tasted great but I need a temp gauge if I'm going to cook brisket or steaks.
Great review ! Helped out a lot
Just got this grill on clearance at Walmart for $45 🎉 not assembled though 😅
That’s a great price!
So, how do you get the coal remains out of that "tray" after you have used it? Do you have to pick it out piece by piece? I looked at a number of similar grills and it looks like the tray is not removable (the top tray I mean, the one with small holes in it)?
My mother bought me one as a gift this last weekend. Had a a chance to use it.... went and spent $60 getting some nice steaks charcoal and the fixins to cook dinner for me and my girl....... and wouldn't ya know it..... I lift the hood to get it going.... and the thing doesn't have and damn grates in it 💁♂️

I bought this Grill. I had a Task Rabbit assemble mine😂. It took him 2.5 hours. He was on my rooftop deck stretched out on his back going to Town. I said to myself "Mighty Jesus, bless his heart". I had planned on assembling it myself. But when I took it out of the box. It was soo many pieces. It was a LOT of pieces. I said no sirrrr. Its been assembled a week. Im going to use it today. It looks like a really nice and sturdy grill. Good quality.
😂 enjoy the new grill!
For 90ish bucks this thing is a steal. Everyone in my house craves that charcoal flavor. Thank you for doing a review on this because 90% of the gril review videos on youtube is auto generated nonsence
Took me 4 hours to put mine together just to end up putting the legs on wrong so I couldn’t add the side tray 🙄🤷🏽♀️
Took me about 2hrs to assemble it
thank you... helped me a lot to not buy it 👍 because I need to cook some beer can chicken some times and the lid is not high enough to accommodate 2 chicken

I just bought one myself. Has anyone used it to attempt to smoke? Does it work for smoking?
I just bought this for $96 at walmart
its a great value!
I got one of these grills and they are good but its a bit difficult to smoke cause it is not very well sealed the heat escapes too much from it besides that its a good grill for the price

I just bought this earlier today. I can't wait to put it together and begin using it
Hope you enjoy it!

Lol
Had one for about 4 years before it burned through, I just bought another one loved it so much, especially how you can raise and lower the charcoal
Right on
I'm interested in getting one, since it seemed like you gave yours a solid working. I was curious did the coal tray raise/lower feature hold up as long as you used it for?
I just bought my third one ! Absolutely love this grill , i have got about two years out of my previous two each...For 97 bucks its a bargain ! I don't mind replacing it every couple years for the price, we grill qll year long so it gets alot of use , but after two years rust is an issue as i said for the price no problem ! My favorite grill I have ever had ! Nothing tastes better than charcoal!
That is awesome!
Good video but how does metal on cast iron not mess up the seasoning and cause rust?
We never got to watch you cut into the steak. Booooo! lol
Lol! Good point!
This is not a flimsy as the grills at the orange and blue store that cost twice as much and with less features... deal for the price
How do you smoke with it? It's not an offset.
You’d need to put your coals to one side.
I received this grill as a gift...each time I've used it. It cooks wayyyyy too fast.
Do you have a video of how to smoke brisket on using this grill
I am using about 1.5kg of charcoal in this grill and not able to increase the temperature above 300 degrees. Does anybody know how to increase the temperature above 500? adding more charcoal (how much)? or whatever else?
It has poor and small ventilation holes

Got one from Walmart probably $126. Or somewhere around there. Wider with 3 grills, same appearance. Took about less than an hour to put together. Only problem is when I open the the top hood it goes all the way back. I have to check out why. Anxiously waiting to try it out...
you probably had the brackets for the lid on the body

Bought one and took it back after one cook. The charcoal tray needs to be replaced with expanded metal. The tray smothers the ashes and it also could be a little deeper to hold the charcoal from tipping over onto the ash catcher.
I wish I could say I didn’t have to assemble it. Maybe I’m dumb but it took hours.
Just bought one today for $89.99 at Walmart.. Took me about an hour n a half. Thankfully no one was home and I was able to peacefully listen to a podcast while getting it done..lol about to use it tonight.. in about 30mins lol. Just waiting on the grates to season a little

Great review! I bought one and like it. I am concerned about the handle turning rough that lowers the charcoal. I have not even used it yet but the tip of the turn handle is already shaving metal off of the plate that it presses against. I need to know if this is normal. Please help!
Mine did that too it'll last a good while
There's another guy with a video who said he had to swap the sides (where the vents are)& after that it worked perfectly
I just bought one today,
I’m using it tomorrow 4th of July
Do I have to season the grates each time I cook or is it a one-time thing?
It’s once every 4 four months or at the begging or end of summer or whenever you grill
Try using tongs with steaks instead of a spatula my friend , nice review, had my eye on this grill for a while
Also a chimney to get them coals piping hot before throwing them on
I've had mine for a year and it's been used heavily. It's not as pretty as when new but still doing the job well. Some of the paint on the lid has burned off and the charcoal tray is warped but still holding together. I keep it in the garage when not used and I clean the ash out after every cook. But it's a great 2 zone cooker. Open all 4 vents up, have the charcoal tray all the way up and preheat those cast iron grates to get an amazing sear on steaks and burgers. Move your meat to the cool side and close opposite lower and upper vents while leaving the other opposite lower and upper vents open, and it cooks like a convection oven which is great for finishing steaks or chops after they've been seared.
Great tips!
Just bought this grill last weekend and will be using it tomorrow!! Great tips on how to vent the grill while cooking steaks.
How to assemble
When I purchased mine it was already assembled.
Hey Brian, do you have a video on how to use this for beginners? I brought a grill which is almost identical to this and I'm a beginner to BBQs. So I was unsure how you've added the charcoal to the grill before you added the grills and meat.
I've seen a lot of people use a charcoal chimney but not sure if I need one for this grill. Any advice and tools I'll need would be a huge help
Matt. I usually use a chimney and then once most of the charcoals have some gray ash on them I spread them on the coal tray and put the cooking grates back in place.
@@briandaniels4 many thanks, I actually got a chimney today. Firing up the grill for the first time tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Just cooked steaks on it last week. 3 years now, uncovered and faded. Still going.
@@briandaniels4 AHhh that's super good to know! I ended up buying it hoping it would at least last this year.
How do you control your temperature?
I don’t do long smokes on this grill. I mainly use it for burgers, steaks, and chops...things that I can cook quicker with high heat. However, I’d use the 4 side vents to keep the temp even if I was going to do a longer cook where consistent temperature was needed.
I absolutely love mine. Still learning but it’s a very rewarding purchase
It really is!
Can you use mesquite? Or is it only for charcoal?
Charcoal is the primary fuel for the grill.
If you don't mind me asking, how do you go about cleaning after using; trying to prevent rusting? Thanks in advance..
I mainly just keep the ash emptied. Other than that I put it in the garage when not in use.
The cast iron you cook on? Just bought mine yesterday that's why I'm asking 🤷🏽♀️
It was advertised to me as a smoker 😕 can you use it as such?
It’s not really a smoker.
