      @@peachy1525 something like this happened to me back in high school, im a pretty quiet person in class and never speak to anyone cuz of social problems anyway one day i was talking with my friend when a group of my class mates were passing by and all of them just froze still with a shocked expression seeing me having an actual conversation like a normal person when i looked at them they walked away while whispering to eachother but thats not the worse of it they went and told the whole class about it and one guy came up to my desk and said "so you do know how to talk" and i replied with of course i can talk and he asked then why don't you speak with anyone in class but i didn't know how to answer that so i never said anything then the teacher came to the class and i felt like my life was saved and thankfully he never bothered to ask again. I knew what she meant but having anxiety disorder made me sort of a psychology nerd. But if you have set yourself straight now it wouldn't matter.
      I myself as a kid and have noticed odd things I have done in my early childhood; I set from paper to insects on fire, at a farm as a school excursion I stabbed a twig into a pig's nose until it squealed, I have poked or hit a chicken with a broom when it was meant to be killed and eaten, I was indifferent when my mother was in danger, I tortured flies, lied relentlessly to people and manipulated people well lying and manipulating I still hold. Also my sarcastic jokes mainly pokes people's weaknesses and some people I know don't take it so well.

      bad coping mechanism.. a bully is just a subjective term society places on individuals in order to remain faultless and above these people... what one person may think is a bully, to someone else they might not be a bully. not always but sometimes.. we as human beings place labels on people so we can free ourselves from any blame... thats the kinda society we live in.... a scapegoat society... one that stigmatizes indidivuals in order to make up for societys own short comings... societys badge of shame if you like... no its not acceptable what a bully does but they dont do it intentionally... they are forced into those circumstances.. they didnt choose it to happen... they wouldnt unknowingly ''bully''' for no reason.. but often we like to immediately place the blame on people without looking at external factors... labelling people is just society's 'easy way out'.... cowardly way out... society always took the easy path... thats why they invented these labels in the first place... but it is so much more complicated than that... yes a bully may have bullied someone but I still respect him for he is still a human being like everyone else.. and what he really needs... is understanding, support and encouragement to pull him out of the pit of stress and denial... we live in a judgemental society, one that is entirely subjective... not objectively... only listens to emotions and not facts... where emotions are mistakened for the real truth... thats how bad it is... what im trying to say is that I don't like a bullies actions but even then I still respect him as a person... one has to learn how to separate a person from his issues... I dont hate nobody, but their actions... however I its still unacceptable and I come first... I have to practise self defence... address the bully respectfully however if they dont do that, then avoid them, cut them out completely... never see them ever again... a respectful warning first.. then thats it..

    • @tommychappell6359
      @tommychappell6359 6 лет назад +1

      a bully is an oversimplistic term for someone who has stress issues, at home, in family, and relationships... I still cant say that i understand bullies fully and why they do it... but I understand this world is a whole lot complicated than is given out... everything happens for a reason.. and I mean that in every meaning of the word... all i know is that they are motivated because of pain and suffering and they need to be listened to... we live in a limited society that often doesnt grant them help, because of limited resources hence why people see the need to ''bully''. I prefer the term 'stressed'... 'burdened'... 1st is defence... but after self defence comes benefit of the doubt... sometimes a bully is just tackling their issues in the wrong way, with aggression or passiveness when really all they need is a nudge to respond to their issues with more greyness and understanding.. but life is complicated... sometimes things cause domino effects.. the bullies are themselves bullied so it makes sense.. not saying its right.. but i understand in part why they do it.. im no expert by any means but I know that it isnt as simple as society gives to be...

      Kyary4Ever It's ok to not know what autism is.
      It's kind of complicated anyways.

    • @indigojay974
      @indigojay974 8 лет назад +13

      Kyary4Ever Autism is really complex and can be very different for each person. For example, my sister has autism and she's mute, and has to attend a special needs school. I have asperger's (a type of autism) but can still socialise and stuff (which is why I was diagnosed so late at 15).
      The reason all the kids you know with autism are "abnormal" or "slow," is because they're the only ones that are noticeable. There are probably a lot more kids with autism that you know about, it's just less obvious so you don't think they're autistic.
      And what you said about a screen is quite true, a lot of people with autism, especially when they're older, have learnt to "fit in" and keep things mostly internal, so it becomes much less noticeable.
      You weren't offensive at all, nothing wrong with asking questions and wanting to learn more :) there's a lot more info online if you're interested

    Wish i knew the term asocial as I went around explaining my personality as being antisocial for several years. I've got ASD/Aspergers, depression and anxiety so I avoid people. I forced myself to get used to and interact with people to get over the anxiety and autism symptoms while at uni and ended up having a breakdown and had to postpone my studies. So if there's one lesson I've learned it's that you can't always fix yourself. Sometimes you just have to live with it and work around it regardless of what the demands of yourself, your ambitions and society are.

    Psychology isn't a popular subject here in East Asia. Although there are field practitioners in Clinical Psychology, it's mediocre at best, and is seen as taboo. I've often talked about Anxiety/ADHD/Depression/OCD and 100% of the time: people just give you a blank stare. No wonder a lot of people burst into sudden tantrums and commit suicide.

    • @kenllacer
      @kenllacer 8 лет назад +10

      No, not at all. It's just common for people to misuse the term antisocial for asocial behavior. Every culture has it's way of imposing peer pressure. I can't speak for Caucasians, but it's more subtle here in Asia and deeply focused on sizing the person socially, and intellectually.

    • @10_Bit
      @10_Bit 6 лет назад +24

      Anti social doesn't mean you hate people in general and don't want to socialise. It's still asocial as it was depicted you felt hostile and that's anger.
      Anti social is more like a wolf in a sheep's coat metaphor.
      You can still socialise but you do it to seek a purpose to hurt or use someone in the later stages if I can vaguely put it into words.
      Because socialising is considered as a normal thing for the general public so ASPD pt's (patients) do this to fit in.
      As I said hating humans and not socialising aren't necessarily traits for ASPD. But there are many other factors before you call yourself ASPD but for now it's very premature. You might just hate people because most of whom you've met have disappointed you and betrayed you so deeply it changed your general view for humanity.

      Don't make the mistake of confusing psychiatry with psychology, ones a doctor subject to the rigors of scrutiny, the other a therapist trying to justify their job by calling it a science.
      A psychologist is guessing, a tarot card reader. You can take any given patient and have five differing opinions on the disorder the patient has and they could all be right and yet not answerable to anyone if they're all wrong.

      Sean Tripp So what about all the studies performed in psychology about human behaviour? Or animal training? Just because we don't really know what is going on, doesn’t warrant it being disregarded, if anything it means that it needs to be investigated further.

      @seantripp6028 8 лет назад +4

      ***** Do we use positive reinforcement by giving a treat to the dog you're training or do we assume that the dog is a family member responsible for their own actions? Currently, the common zeitgeist on dog training is use treats to cultivate obedient behavior, would you do that to your son or daughter? If you would what happens when the treats run out? I've never needed to enslave my dog with that expectation and have a showcase full of trophies proving that teamwork and fellowship with my dog won the day.
      Today, many therapist, want to isolate their patients as a behavioral modifier, which is only worsening their patients condition, yet they continue the practice. Why? Because they have a vested interest in protecting their "profession" and exempt themselves from scrutiny even at the expense of their patients well being. This is most prevalent in academia, psychologist and "social scientist" are priest in the new inquisition.

      I think that sort of antisocial behavior would be like the defcon 5 of homicidal behavior. Homicidal actions are typically linked to antisocial behavior, I believe. While Antisocial people want to portray a tough character(might be insecure about something), homicidal people might've been outcasts to society, or school.
      This is all based off of what I've seen and experienced, so I didn't do the studies or research; Just the contemplation, so it might not be a proven fact.

    I first heard the term asocial from this kid in my school... I now explain to people the difference between asocial and anti social because of how frequently people think they're anti-social when they're not.
    I explain that anti-social is deliberately doing behaviours that aren't social... like violence and such... whilst asocial and being social to alone or more not being interested in being social... like asexual is a lack of interest in having intimate relationships.

But 'funny' means when I do something stupid and we laugh about it. My parents are mad at me becouse I don't go outside to make friends. Well staying inside is another problem that I have and I actually don't know why. My parents think that I'm obssesed with the internet and I am really staying only on my phone all day and I know it's bad but I have some people there on the internet that I like calling them "friends". Again my parents think I don't talk to people because of my "obssesion" with the internet. It's probably true but I don't know. I wouldn't consider myself entirely asocial, because I love talking to people lol but with newfound social anxiety, I prefer small groups, I avoid crowds, and I avoid a lot of social events. I avoid them due to frequent panic attacks. I won't exhibit the anger type behaviours tho. I prefer to socialise in online games than at events. I used to be extroverted but am now rather introverted. When I go somewhere, I usually don't stay long. This change is due to a burnout and increased PTSD symptoms. This video is very helpful. Altho I'm not completely asocial, it will help those who think I am anti-social to understand how I am very much still social.

    Hello, J here...borrowing a friends phone fr....this video helped me realize that I'm asocial. Maybe if some ppl weren't so hateful, critical or manipulative of others, then I wouldn't be as asocial. I consider myself a compassionate , altruistic individual that has had to become more...guarded due to the lessons learned from being gullable in a sometimes seemingly sadistic world. Thanks for these videos....they seem really helpful for us introverted , asocial ppl to learn, cope and accept this knowledge when authentic sources of help are not available in a persons geographical environment. :D - J.F

    • @boakenawa
      @boakenawa 8 лет назад +1

      Being "straight but gay" means that one is most likely bisexual, but I digress. There are currently no facts nor sources that you included to back up your claim, and there is no common knowledge saying that you cannot have both disorders simultaneously. Your argument is invalid, and your shoddy claim lacks any evidence.

      @boakenawa 8 лет назад

      Bisexual is bisexual. When a person is bisexual, they are sexually attracted to male and female individuals. One is not half-straight nor half-gay. That is insulting and an erroneous way to perceive people who considers themselves to have a bisexuality. Also, I can't even take you seriously if you are lacking grammar and punctuation skills.

    I'm an asocial, have serious social anxiety, am gaslighted every day, am shy, bullied, and was driven into depression. Suicide is a daily thought for me. Everyone, every day, either calls me names or manipulates me into hating myself more. There used to be one thought in my head, that 'its going to get better.' Well, that was six years ago. And I don't see things getting better any time soon. Case in point: i am hated by everyone (including myself) and I struggle through life hoping something gets better.
    Also, and though it may not matter, I am middle child, and our family has been surviving on old instant noodles every day.

    I typically avoid people most of the time. I have a hard time making new friends even when I want to. I just can't seem to latch on to anyone. But I think this is due with my constant anxiety when I'm around people. I don't think I'm asocial, I'm not hostile I'm the quietest most timid person you'll ever meet. I have frequent bursts of anxiety (that's the only way I could describe it) when I'm around people. My throat squeezes and hurts, I sweat a lot and my jaw tightens. They go on until the interaction is over. Even when I'm confident about the situation they still happen.

    I think I’m asocial.
    I used to be the most social kid ever, I grew up to my parents never letting me go out on my own or with friends. If they ever did I will have to be stuck with their asses and then ofcourse you can’t do anything that makes you feel comfortable because everything is “inappropriate” in their eyes. They made me into who I am now, I am exactly the opposite of who I used to be years ago, they drew out hope and fun in me. I started accepting that they would never let me go put with friends or myself. And I didn’t want to go put with them because thats hell. So then I started liking to sit home all weekends and do nothing except drown myself in social media and food. Overtime I started hating being around people and lpve being alone, I hate being in the some room with some. I love being left alone in a closed room with internet, bed, and food. That is all I need and I will be okay
    edit: honestly the best examples i came up with is. Its like putting a bird into a cage and telling it to fly

    I got diagnosed as asocial 3 years ago. It's true that I kind of avoid people and interacting with them often. I was isolated as a kid, punished for human things like going to the bathroom in the middle of the night, and I was abused a lot as a child and teen. Bullied, the only outcast, rebelling against my family for being so inhumane toward me and my sisters, Never got to be an individual. I am kind of hostile at first when I just meet somebody, but if I get to know them, I warm up. I'm in therapy re-learning the wheel of emotions...my experiences shut me down to anything I've been feeling deep down.

    How come the dictionary defines antisocial as : not sociable or wanting the company of others. and asocial as: avoiding social interaction; inconsiderate of or hostile to others? o_O This is now confusing. D: It sounds like a sociopath if someone is antisocial. D: I used to know a girl who does all those things, she used to manipulate people around her and start huge fights then turn it around to make out she did nothing. She'd lie about all kinds of things and be super nice to you then turn suddenly and get really nasty and play on your fears and self doubt. It was horrible.

    • @Psych2go
      @Psych2go  8 лет назад

      Hey Holy, thanks for the question. It's interesting, but technically, it's supposed to be the other way around. Antisocial is someone who's inconsiderate or hostile towards others, whereas asocial is not wanting the company of others. I guess.. it just goes to show why the terms are misused. It sounds like the girl you mention would fit more into the antisocial definition. But at the same time, she may also not like being with others too.. or is asocial. I mean everyone has their problems so maybe she had a difficult upbringing or something just causes her to do that. Hard to say.. but being understanding would be a good start. Maybe try to figure out why she is like that?

      I did try hard to understand her, but she got more and more aggressive and nasty with me. She used to say some really awful things like no one wanted me around and that I needed to kill myself. She actually had a really good upbringing, her parents were lovely but for some reason she was just not very nice. I do believe she was diagnosed with something at one point, but refused to take the medication for it and sold it at university. :S
