    Hey Kern,
    Appreciate your deep analysis videos, they put me at peace whenever I have b58 related questions.
    I was recently protuned on e50 FBO vargs gc. (gen 1 b58) Tuner had issues because my car kept limping out at 5k - 5,500k rpm when on dyno. Tuner believes my waste gate is bad, car only has 15k miles and had a reputable shop install my parts.. At a stand still here, don't feel like the shop/tuner are interested in figuring this out for me.

      Update, for anyone looking to calibrate their wastegate and can’t find the distance required on Ista. You can use the raw position of the wastegate in the logging channels of mhd or bootmod, it shows the distance at idle. You want the value in mm at 0mm. Hope this helps someone @kern417

    As I understand the waste gate actuator must be adjusted within the range the electronic wastegate is set up. The electronic will take a check if the rode is adjust within, if not the turbocharger will not get any boost. My wastegate actuator is just a plastic rode with no nuts or any gangs to adjust. The plastic rode is locked by a c-clips. So if I remove the c-clips and turn the rode -4 times and run my diagnostic tool. If it is within range there will be no error. Right?

    Thanks a lot for all the videos you make. I've been watching through pretty much all of those and it gives you a really good insight. I've already seen a comment addressing the waste gate rattle of the B58. There are a bunch of threads about this in german forums but you rarely find any english ones. ruclips.net/video/-7ZW7eW5Vgw/видео.html. This video captures that specific waste gate rattle pretty well (or it might rather be the actuator that rattles). You can first hear it really well at around 1:20. It appears when you are on low-mid throttle cruising through a city most often and it's about as loud as that sweet b58 sound which makes it smth really bothering. If you knew any fix for this my life would be whole

      Combustion period too short is typically related to coilpacks. Wastegate codes need to look at the wastegate to see if it's moving or if something is loose.

    Hey man, hoping you can help me out even tho this vid is 2 years old already.
    My gen 1 m240i xdrive has an audible rattlez Sometimes on deceleration, other times by just blipping the throttle and other times when in a high gear low rpm cruising. The noise is almost undetectable in sport and sport+ modes.
    I’ve checked and it doesn’t sound like it’s coming from the exhaust flap, and I recently changed the spring in the flap actuator.
    I’m almost positive it’s the waste gate actuator. After doing a bm3 tune and catted downpipe the noise is much more noticeable. It sounds A LOT like the noise in this vid: ruclips.net/video/-7ZW7eW5Vgw/видео.htmlsi=Rp2IPKMZlUiOnqdj
    I’m not seeing any problems with boost, it’s just the noise that’s annoying.
    This RUclipsr says a DME update from BMW fixed his problem. Thing is that I’m tuned. 2 questions for ya
    1: would the dme update negate the bm3 tune?
    2: if the dme update works and I get no wastegate rattle noise, would reflashing the car with bm3 just undo the fix?
    Sorry for the long post but anything you can share is much appreciated.

    • @kern417
      @kern417  5 месяцев назад

      i'm not sure about that issue. but if you get a dme update then it will flash the tune back to stock and lock the dme so you will need a bench unlock to reflash your map. the map only changes certain things, so if there is an update then it shouldn't affect other areas other than those to make more power safely. i can't really say if it'll have an effect on your issue.
