      @Tesla Plaid Channel; Andrew, great race with this modified RX-7, 2 rotor, 13B. It is certainly quicker off the line than most vehicles, including the Tesla EV Plaid. This modified 13B, seem to be set such it was not able to continue the same acceleration, for some reason, and the Tesla was able to catch up just before half track, 330 ft, perhaps about at 300 ft ? 🧐
      If You want to see some actually 'heavily' modified 2 rotor, 13B vehicles, perhaps see these three which run 6.6-6.8 sec. 1/4 mile ET with 210+ MPH top end trap speed [2 RX-7, Gen 1 (like this one), 1 Starlet (swapped)]:
      ruclips.net/video/U5U0fm0bxL0/видео.html
      This was a recent event at Orlando Speedworld, Winter Nationals 2022.
      😏
      The rotary engine is actually not louder than most piston engines, whether V8 or V6, but a higher frequency and pitch. Similarly high power 4 cylinder engines, have higher frequency sound than V6 or V8, as do V6 compared with V8 engines, though less noticeable. 😏
      Most of the differences are from the speed of revolution [RPM].
      Similarly, the higher frequency, pitch, 'wine' sound from a turbocharger or superchargers is from the higher speed revolutions. 🤓
      Higher frequencies at the same sound level [dB] seem louder. 🧐
      Our human hearing is certainly more sensitive and more easily damaged form higher frequency sound waves. 😏
      This are a basic concepts that i would expect You already know, though, Andrew. 🤨
      Still enjoy each and every one of Your vlog posts of all Your races at all the tracks in Florida; Showtime, Orlando Speedway, Bradenton, Gainsville.
      Am glad You also still decided to take, use and race Your Tesla Plaid, after checking the mechanical integrity, after the recent collision and damage.
      Hopefully the repairs will be done properly and timely too. Also, shouldn't the driver of the truck also pay for the damages, as with any other driving situation or does each driver sign some type of 'wavier' that removes any obligation of any driver from any damages to another, for any reason [if that is actually legal, reasonable and such]? 🤔
      All The Best and Much Success in Your Quest, Health and Well Being.😊
      Sincerely ☺

Question: With the MW03s you ran (which are lighter then the stock 19s), how much lighter are you per wheel (I have no idea how much the tires weigh), and was there a significant enough reduction in RUM (rotational unsprung) to see any difference? But just curious, what are the specs on the rx-7's rotary? Turbo or N/A? Can you give us an idea of how much difference the burnout at the start of the races makes for the ICE cars.

    • @TeslaPlaidChannel
      @TeslaPlaidChannel  2 года назад +1

      For many (slower) cars, it might not make any difference at all, especially if they are on street tires. But for fast cars on drag radials that are competitive with the Plaid, and running 9s in the quarter mile, a complete loss of traction at the line (and then having to “pedal” it) will usually cost about a full second. We saw it recently with a 900+HP Redeye and even again just last night with a fast turbo Supra. Right around one full second was lost. The burnout doesn’t guarantee traction of course, but without warming those drag radials, losing traction is almost guaranteed.

      @@TeslaPlaidChannel so it about not losing time not gaining time shame , I was wondering if a software mod to allow the Tesla to selectively turn off the traction control to allow the tyres to be warmed would reduce the 1/4 mile time.

    • @TeslaPlaidChannel
      @TeslaPlaidChannel  2 года назад +1

      @@alanrickett2537 Well, your first sentence is mostly true for most cars. But the Tesla is unique because it does not give the driver 100% of the available power in the first ~60-100 feet or so. This is clearly noted because it has the same 60-foot times as our 2019 Tesla Model S, which has only ~700HP (and 200 pounds heavier) and yet also runs 1.49 seconds to 60-feet. Tesla uses an acceleration map that gives a maximum amount of power based on what they believe is the maximum amount of traction that the car can have with the stock tires at any given MPH. (And then it only comes down from that power level if Traction Control detects slippage.)
      If they were to increase the off-the-line power, most drivers would have immediate Traction Control intervention every time, but it would be great for a drag racer on drag tires! ⚡️🚙💨

      you have to be old to remember what a sensation they used to be from 1978-95. Mazda made a few models featuring the 12 and 13b twin rotors. Sold lots of them until Ford stepped in to ruin it with the RX8. There are LOTS of vids that can tell you all about them, but IMHO the ultimate Mazda design was the one that won Le Mans in 1989. It beat everyone. There was so little wear, they said that it could run ANOTHER 24 hour race if they just put in fresh oil. Not a good drag racer because of the low compression, and ALL drag racers are loud -except Tesla :)
