- in this video, I discuss the steps to access the hidden menu functions on my BMW e90. this will probably work on the E8x models BMW 1 series,
main functions - menu 1 is vehicle data and information
menu 6 deals with fuel
menu 7 deals with engine operations (coolant temp, digital rpm)
menu 8 deals with Speed (actual speed, average speed, cruise control speed)
menu 9 deals with battery voltage

Thanks man for this information, also my BMW320i sometimes on cold engine in first gear jerks a bit, i have done big services and changed the plugs, filters and all, did the diagnostics test but nothing came up, is it possible it does due to cold or anyother issue?

You have done the best job of explaining the hidden menu that I've seen thus far. I wonder what is its main purpose. Do BMW technicians use it?
I would assume that the main purpose is to monitor the vehicle parameters. I.e battery voltage, charge, also having accurate readings and monitor the vehicle. As far as if BMW techs use it, I'm not sure, but its a nice 'on the fly' tool
Hi, thank you for your comment. Majority of the cases, cleaning a fault code will require an OBD2 scanner / diagnostic tool to clear faults. Hidden menu wont be able to clear any faults

Digital Speedo can be coded to show permanently while scrolling with the BC button. This is very helpful when you travail to have both km/h and Mile/h

At idle alternators tend to be underdriven. Try holding it at 1500-2000 rpm (where it would be when moving)
It takes a few seconds to fully activate, on regular driving its around 13.5v and on idle its around 13.9-14v

You can also use Bluedriver OBD2 scanner if you want to log everything on your iPhone/Android.

I would like to light up your knowledge that the fuel tank calculation is in this way.
L - stands for liter of gasoline that was 11
R - stands for reserve of gasoline left after coming to that state of level which is 4
S - sum of liter that includes the reserve gasoline as well.

Hi just a quick query, so before I was getting a low fuel warning along with a chime at a range of 100km but after my service and resetting the service intervals and everything that low fuel warning chime isn't coming even at 90km of fuel range, is there any possibility to get that feature back ?
Howsit buddy i have a 2010 320i msport. Im having a problem on fuel economy. Its very heavy. Quater tank fuel gives me only 35km only. I have done a diagnotic check and no faults picked up. Any idea what needs to be done

+Blackwing it could be 1 of 3 things. Please check if your battery connections are completely tight. If the yellow battery light is still on, Have your battery charged or replaced
Man thank you so much for this video. I ran across it on accident but gained more knowledge about my car than I have thus far. Keep em coming man. You got a fan here. Is there a way to check the transmission fluid temperature? I feel like mine is getting hot and I don't wanna burn my clutches. I have a couple codes coming up that I don't know and can't find the resources in printable form to reference while in vehicle. I know one is the abs pressure light or something like that making it lose engine power and I have to run the traction control off but that didnt seem to really help but one time. I don't wanna continue driving it in fear of really f%$&*% something up. Thanks again for the information.
thank you for your support, i greatly appreciate it. I would personally have your car tested with a professional diagnostic tool, and do a live data stream, it will be able to show all parameters of the vehicle which should include the gearbox temperature. With regards to the traction control, I would look into having your wheel speed sensors replaced which is why the ABS warning light is coming on and having you turn off traction control to drive at full power. the sensor is giving a faulty reading thinking that the wheel is turning faster than what the diff & speedo is reading... another side note is to check if your alternator / battery is in good condition as this will also cause failures in readings

How do you get these to be on your BC buttons without doing that set up every drive?
Unfortunately the only way to get these through your BC button is through coding, and mostly you will only get the digital speed... Not the other functions... I hope this helps

Łukasz B. You can change it using the BC stalk and the toggle switch, or if you have the professional stereo system, press menu - Config - and using the radio buttons to configure your instruments... Please note that the hidden features menu are set in default units being km (kilometres) and L (liters)
Hi I have a e93 and the passenger seat airbag light has come on. Do you know if this is the sensor or something else?
You'd need to diagnose to find out... In most cases its a faulty connection... Perhaps remove the negative terminal from your battery for 10 minutes, connect it again then try and see if the error persists
Is there a way to make it show how much range you have left on your car?
There is a menu that shows you everything that deals with fuel, I'm not exactly sure which it is, but to view your range, there is a range indication that can be displayed without using the hidden menu, all you have to do is press your BC button and cycle through the options... Or you can press MENU (BMW professional radio) and select BC, that will bring up 4 values (Average fuel consumption - average speed - range - exterior temperature) i hope this helps you

Hi Great job with video. I have the brake sensor warning comes (brakes worn to minimum thickness- see dealer) up every time I start my 2011 X5 E70. The brake pad wear sensors have been changed out twice with OEM and the dealer states it is in my DSC unit. Is there any way to bypass this in the computer to clear and ultimately fix ? Thanks
Thank you for your comment, onto your question, unfortunately the hidden menu wont be able to assist in this regard, however you can try to fool the system by crossing the 2 break pad sensor wires together, or alternatively have it coded out completely, but then you will lose the function of the sensor all together

My BMW X 1 battery dead without any symptoms and I managed to start through jump. Now it's shows a icon and head lights on, power shutters and signal lights not working. Any thoughts? What should I do next?
Check your battery terminals if they're not loose, thereafter have your vehicle checked by a diagnostic test and it will point you in the correct direction
Can you drive normally with the coolant temp on?... so you can see if your car is overheating or not?
Or can you only drive a little with it on?

Yes you can, as long as you don't have any errors constantly coming up, you can use the hidden menu on for as long as you want

Its vr47970 = 27
Max is 21
+Mohammed Zaid 21 is the menu... You go to menu 19, you see lock: on... Wait 2 seconds, then input 27, wait another 2 seconds and you will have unlocked
Heyy nice video man ,just a quick question.. is there a way to get the fuel warning chime way sooner like with 100kms of range ...
It warns you at a specific point on how much fuel is in the tank... The range is irrelevant as it is based on how you're driving
@@Realpreshaanb hey I checked the avg speed and avg mileage now and also previously ( when it was actually working ) both the values are same... For example when I wasn't facing this issue I was getting 13.2 km/l and 33.2kmph and now the values are same cuz the driving style is same but the low reserve warning isn't popping up, checked the fuel quantity level in instrument cluster as well... It's exactly the same when I used to get the warning ( actual reserve quantity before when I was getting the warning) 😭 rely need help in this broo

Its the reading that come from the engine temperature sensor, basically the temperature of whatever you have running through your radiator and cooling system ✌🏼

That's absolutely normal, you should only be worried when it reaches 100+

Its normal because you are engaging the torque converter and putting the drivetrain under load

Have a look at your cooling system, from your cooling fan to the temperature warning sensors, ensure all of it is operating properly and replace immediately should you need to

Hi, unfortunately the hidden menus aren't used for clearing codes, you can try using the BC switch and button and using the icons on the dashboard, its difficult to say because I don't have the iDrive system

You would need to follow the steps in order, to gain access to these menus as they are not on the forefront for the dashboard

Unfortunately not, because Germany uses the metric system, all internal coding is in metric. Unless you have your car coded using a bmw coding tool (carly for bmw) you can enable it and set it to mph

It will never stay on permanently, it will always reset when you turn the car off, to have a digital speedometer you'll need to have your car coded👌🏼

you will need to unlock the hidden menu each time you want to use this. The cluster locks every time you remove the key and lock the car.

+Robert Vasile i would suggest take your car in for a checkup at either a qualified BMW mechanic or to your local BMW dealer. They would be able to diagnose what needs to be replaced in order to get your car working in most efficient order

Thats a warning that's a feature built into the car... Im sure you can have your vehicle coded to have it removed but other than that there's no other way to have it removed or increased

With having it coded in to display it then yes. 99% of the time it's not available from factory

Where can I find my car's code?
+Al Capone once you access the hidden menu. You will see menu number 01.00 (your vehicle vin number will be displayed) add up those digits to get your code. Once you get it, press the button for 3 seconds and proceed to menu 19 and leave for 1 second. Enter your code and release. The cluster should be unlocked at this point
Can you use the digital Speedo after coming to ordinary menu?
Unfortunately not, it is only accessible at that specific sub menu
Does the E90 come with door lock deadlock feature?
Once you lock the car and the vehicle goes to "sleep", it should go into deadlock safety mode

@@Realpreshaanb So the first time i observed that, i followed ur guide to unlock the codes and it stopped but this happened again after two weeks. I have not tried checking the codes again though, But i am really concerned.
Best to do a full diagnosis on your car to see what is actually coming up to give the error

Misfire. Common issue with Spark plugs fail.
Vehicle diagnostic needed, there are no spark plugs on a diesel
So in dealership they do this and get paid $100+
Its not for me to say, the hidden menu is just used to get real time information of the vehicle while in use, there's no way of getting information regarding codes, errors and what not out of the car without plugging into their diagnostic machines which are linked to the BMW mainframe so it logs all your vehicle information to the system and keeps everything on record

Sorry i don't know how to turn down the milage... And in any case, you can't do so with the hidden menus. + Even if you do end up finding a way to do so, the actual mileage will still be recorded on the key
