I had this issue on my 120d. Warning light, reduced rpm then limp mode. The fix from various garages was between £180 to over £400 ( from BMW ). My local specialist garage did the fix you outline in the video for £70. That was about 20,000 miles ago. Had no issues with it since. :-)
Thanks for video, did this fix today, removed and cleaned both rear ABS sensors, I also cleaned the ABS ring with penetrating oil, put washers underneath ABS bracket and it worked. Thanks again, highly recommended!

Thanks for sharing this information, this problem has happened to me and didn't know what to do without pulling out the drive shaft and replacing the Reluctor Ring. Bravo !!
Great video, fixed my annoying Tc light coming on intermittently and losing power!!! Just make sure u don't use a thick washer like I did first time round...made the speedo wobble and brakes lock up when stopping at a slow speed!!! just make sure washer is super thin👍👍👍
Thank you for your video, My BMW 1 series 20d M Convertible had the same problem. I done what you did with a plastic washer. It works fine and when I make the car skid/loose control the traction control still kicks in. Job done 👍
Wish me luck! I will try this fix tomorrow! I've had this problem for over a year now on my E90. I manually turn off the DTC, and it drives fine. I will be replacing all 4 ABS sensors, and give the reluctor rings, and sensor holes on driver axle a good scrubbing/scraping.
Wish I'd known about this a few years ago. It happened to me when I was travelling to a ferry to drive abroad for a short holiday. I had to take it to my garage and get it fixed same day. I got charged £750
This is what I was asking as well I have a 2008 328xi I just picked up for 3 grand I think it’s gonna be a cheap and easy fix watching this now just gotta jack the car up tomorrow and check all wheels 😅
Great Video. I got the ring and sensor replaced on one side last year. I now have problem with other side and need temporary fix until eventually replacing the ring there too. I am currently deactivating dynamic stability control every time I drive to prevent juddering.
Hey Alan. Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate it. It’s been more than 3 months after I done this quick fix. I didn’t experienced any problems whatsoever. Please let me know now about your fixing process.
My main concern now is that I have National Car Test(NCT in Ireland) this Friday and this problem may show up. I actually don't mind driving around (at least temporarily) with this issue because all I do is press the DSC button for about 5 seconds to deactivate DSC and the juddering stops. I might try your fix in the next few days.
You are damaging the ABS sensor every time you drive our car. It’s rubbing against the reluctor ring. It’s best to move sensor As Soon As Possible in order to save the ABS sensors life :D
Had the same problem on my 120D Coupe...My old eyes thought that the fault light was the A start system / EGR valve kicking in and cutting power !! My local garage looked at the diagnostics and no fault on the EGR and diagnosed the Reluctor ring. Fixed as per your video £70... Good call .. BMW would have changed a shaft.....robbers
My BMW 1 Series 120d M is currently experiencing an issue with the DSC warning light illuminated on the dashboard. I have taken it to a BMW service center for diagnosis, and they have recommended replacing the DSC control unit due to its age. However, the cost of a new DSC control unit exceeds the value of the car. Despite the warning light being on, the car is currently driving fine. I am wondering if there are any friendly garages in the UK (near Newcastle upon Tyne) that could fix the DSC issue by following this inspiring video?
I had this exact problem with my BMW-320. This problem is temperature dependent too. Since the magnetic HAL-effect (which is the principle for a reluctor-ring to operate correctly) is varies greatly with temperature. My problem started 2 weeks ago when the temperature here in Bergen / Norway dropped under 0 C. (I'm just mentioning this if hasn't been stated in the comment already; too lazy to read them all).
Sweet. Imagine if only 1 in 1000 people who saw this video did it instead of paying a mechanic. A million views - a thousand people - a thousand euros per save - a million euros saved. Boss!
Thanks for this. I had an appointment for the auto shop, but decided to give this a try. It was easier than I thought. But I had a problem. I used a washer similar to what was in the video. Once I got it back together the TCS problem was fixed. However, after a mile or so, I got ABS, FCS, and Tire pressure faults. After driving more, the faults cleared, but they would just come back over and over. I decided to try again with a thinner washer. I installed a 1mm washer and now the TCS is good and no other faults. All good to go.

Hey man. Thank you so so much for your helpful video. You have saved me a ton of money. Here in Norway I got quoted around 23000 NOK (2.300 € more or less). Does anybody know for how long the car can go with this quick fix?
Thanks mate, understand that will solved the Dsc problem. But after a washes applied, how's the abs system? It's that still working on emergency braking?
Holy cow... You should not be working on your own car alone... I'm not saying this is a stupid question, but it does show your lack of general knowledge, that is required to be a successful dyi mechanic.
Common issue with the e90s..... ABS sensor. You either have his issues or the ABS/FTL warning lights come up then the ABS kicks in when you lightly break and turn. As long as the ABS sensor is not scored just repace it. If it is, the reluctor ring is warped from rust. Add a 1mm washer to the sensor this may help, if not you will need a new ring as well (no pun intedended ;-)
I have exactly same problem as in the video. I drove about hundred of kilometers in the corners with live data from diagnostic and I was not able to figure out where is the problem. Diagnostic will say nothing, live data also. It shows sometimes, sometimes not. I went crazy about that. Few days of diagnostic rides and I found out nothing. Tomorrow I will try Your fix. I let you know if it helped. Thank You in advance.
I just turn my traction (dsc) off in my mini. It turns everything off. The traction control on bmws is lethal . One bit of spin and all the power is cut to stop wheel spin. Not good pulling onto main roads. I just click it off , would rather have a bit of wheel spin
Which models does this fix apply to? The video seems to show a car that is pretty mangy and generally lacking in maintanance (some of those suspension components really should be replaced).
I have an issue with my 2016 F21 116d Sport. It doesn't happen all the time, but every 7/10 drives on average it will malfunction completely and the DSC is permanently disabled, meaning I also can't use cruise control or eco/sport/sport+ modes, unless I pull over, turn ignition off and start engine again and hope it doesnt happen. I find it happens if you slip the clutch a lot coming up out of an incline from a standstill. It also will just happen randomly cruising on the motorway and boom "DSC malfunction" into "cruise control failure" and I have to drive myself then. I might give this a go and hopefully it fixes the problem.
Hi, I have a 2011 BMW 740LI, my car has been down powering on me while driving, along with a saying DSC malfunction engine chassis stabilization reduced. Once I turn the car off and back on the malfunction goes away and I can drive again for a couple days until it does it again. After taking it in to BMW having them do a diagnostics check they’re saying I need a new DME which costs about $2500. Is this something I should do with my car first before I spend thousands of dollars on a new DME, please let me know what you think. Thank you very much
It's weird I have a 2004 BMW 325 I and when I'm on the highway at higher speeds the 3 lights come on the ABS, traction control, red brake light and then it goes until like a limp mode type so I pull over turn it off turn it back on and it goes away, like when I'm hitting 50-60 miles an hour and the rpms hit 3-4 thousand it shuts down the power and I have to pull off the highway,, I bought 2 front abs wheel speed sencers thinking that was my problem, but watching this video makes sense,, U THINK THAT I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE PUT A WASHER ON MY ABS SENCERS, should I do this to the front or real wheels?? I replaced all 4 oxygen sensors my disa valve my Ignition coils spark plugs even the oil level sensor thinking that would solve it cost me about 800 bucks for all that and I did all the work myselve, so I didnt have to pay no labor I'm at my last wits end with this I'm scared to drive fast on the highway
I'm having this issue. traction controll warning light along with parking brake. are they related? Also do I need to check all 4 to find the problem? I don't have a fancy odb reader
I had this light come up when driving on the motorway but after about 3 hours at about 70mph everytime I accelerate in a straight line, i done a diagnostic after journey but nothing come up maybe need to diagnose when light is flashing? Any idea what issue could be?

What I did after this hack , took wire wheel to axle then treated it with rust conversion, then painted it. I check it every spring, and touch up as needed.
well done with this video! Can you please tell me how can I manage to find out which sensor should I "repair"? Because I don't have a permanent error...is just the DSC that comes on/off repeatedly. Thank you!!
It's is usually always the driver side rear speed sensor! The light go's off for mine to..you have to get a high end OBDi reader. to read the code. cheap walmart reader wont do it.
I got exactly the same Problem, but my obd tool shows 3 steering angle sensor errors. Could it still be the abs sensor or should I try to clean the steering angle sensor?
When I drive I get the traction control light flash and car judders dropping speed, when turn traction control of the car is fine but sometimes the two other lights come on, the abs and handbrake warning lights come on..When tried diagnostic nothing appears and the lights disappear when car is restarted... what could this be? Same issue as described in vid?
I think you might have resolved by now, i just had the same issue and did a temporary by goin in red line till 3rd, (idk how but it worked) and imma try this tomorrow.
This is a problem that most manufacturers have . Volvo , Audi ,Vw, Mercedes etc etc. You need to remove the ABS ring.(reluctor ring) Most of the time the ring cracks and fails. Clean off drive shaft and either fit new ring of the old one if it still fits.
Thanks for the gr8 vid. I just had 3 errors namely; ABS & FTM (Brake & Drive control sys failure) and DBC failure. Is it the same issue that you have just addressed? Appreciate a reply!
BimmerE90 I have the exact same issue with my e93. Mechanic told me i needed to replace the ABS control module which would cost over $4000. Did you ever get an answer on this?

It's is usually always the driver side rear speed sensor! The light go's off for mine to..you have to get a high end OBDi reader. to read the code. cheap walmart reader wont do it.
@@ohmzen9695 I can confirm this, driver side rear.
isit one wheel only or do we do all 4? i have this exact issue right now lol
Here aswell. same problems.
I think you might have resolved by now, i just had the same issue and did a temporary by goin in red line till 3rd, (idk how but it worked) and imma try this tomorrow.
This is a problem that most manufacturers have .
Volvo , Audi ,Vw, Mercedes etc etc.
You need to remove the ABS ring.(reluctor ring)
Most of the time the ring cracks and fails.
Clean off drive shaft and either fit new ring of the old one if it still fits.
My DTC light is on, but no ABS or loss or power. Only thought, and garage said was linked to steering calibration sensor.
@@rrryder Did you ever find the answer?
@@shannonp4037 I did not
Sounds like the wheel bearing is causing a ring/sensor contact issue. It probably will drive a long time like that however.
Thank very much, this is really helpfull
I’ve been doing a lot of burnouts recently.. good chance I broke it lol
Hi guys, probably a sill question, is the DSC sensor on both sides, front left and right?
Thank you sir, your tip is good.
How about cleaning the ring with a wire wheel, and calling it a day.
Great ! Same Problem here. Where can i get the ring /spacer ?
You can find it in every hardware store. It cost only few cents.
It's only a small flat washer.
Will the traction control still kick in if it now looses traction?….
What size washer do you use iv got same issue with my 320d touring 2012
