This has been my dream amp for years. I tought i would never be able to use one because i live in an appartement, but now they make it recording friendly and with IR options. Awesome. Still can't afford it but it's my dream amp even more now !
@blackorbit416 - I wouldn't say better. But they are similar, and the Revv would be just a little bit more affordable. It's nice to have options, I will say the purple channel on the G20 is very different, it doesn't sound like anything else, it has its own unique character. The soldano does have 3 channels compared to the G20's 2 channels.
Thanks Fluff! Really great review and a clear and informed explanation of the amp and how it works. Also, really liked the screen with you, the actual amp and the software at the same time. Peace
Hey Ryan: Good luck on your surgery and recovery. That said it’s interesting to me that most of the music industry has ignored heavy (including metal) music for quite some time now but most of the electric guitars amps pedals and so on are still being geared towards those styles. Interesting…🤔😎🐝

Hello and congrats for your presentations...so, you can't use the software for creating different eq tones and presets...neither when you move the various tone gain knobs the software knobs correspond... we can use it only for irs and channel selection...right?
How close can you get this to some SLO-30 tones? For almost $1,000 less with some additional features it might be worth turning my focus from shopping for an SLO towards the Astro.
Great tone overall...doesn't have the drive that the new SLO series have by a long shot. But for modern hard rock bordering into metal it's a great sound. I'd stick with a SLO but maybe one day they'll throw some of this sweet technology into them.
How does this Soldano Astro-20 watts compare with the EVH 5150iii 50 watts? Next question: in a live gig at a medium-size pub with a loud drummer and NO mic on my speakers, could this Soldano Astro-20 watts keep up with a loud drummer in terms of volume?
@@adeltoral710by your logic, when something is 1999 dollars, you don't just say 2000? Do you also tell people its 9:59 instead of just saying ten o'clock? You must be a riot at parties, bro.
The speaker outs will be a powered output like we expect from any normal guitar amp. In HP42's video, he showed the XLR signal volume is connected to the channel volumes, and you also have a 1/4" out for headphones. It looks like the speaker outs and the XLR can both be used at the same time. You don't need a guitar cabinet connected to use the XLR (from the manual: CAB-LESS OPERATION - To use the amp without a cabinet, completely remove ANY connections from all of the speaker jacks and set the MASTER volume to zero.)
@@Andy_Yates hey, thanks for your reply. But it’s still not clear for me if I can use this amp with passive FRFR cabinet or not. I assume speakers out will bypass IR section.
Soldano amps are generally designed to have the power section as transparent as possible, so if that carries on here, it's unlikely to make a lot of difference. However, since it seems silent recording is an option here, it's got to be routing the output to some kind of load, at least when there's no cab attached.
Ok so gain 1 and gain 2 are NOT gain stages...they are slots to hold the galaxy type in them. So basically I can have two EXACT galaxy and sounds in both Gain 1 and Gain 2 slots if I wanted. I get it now.
Well, I am not the ony one who notices that it doesn't have that SLO magic. Many bells and whistles, but not THAT tone. I will stick to my free NAM SLO captures. They are 100% accurate.
For $1999.99 at Sweetwater + sales tax there's no way I could justify this amp versus a PRS Archon, EVH 5150, Peavey 6505, Orange OR30, Mesa Mark V, etc. I just don't know how Soldano survives at their price point. The amp sounds great but there are so, so many viable alternatives at $2000 and under.
If you want to record any of those direct you're out at least another $500 for a Captor X (which arguably might get better results but is more gear to manage). Or a Mark V really that much cheaper?
I have a 20w mark V, 6505MH, tonex, captor x and a good range of neural and amplitude plugins... This new Soldano really ticks a lot of boxes for me. If you buy second hand you can build up a nice collection over time mate. Amps like this are very hard to get in Australia as well, I'm inbetween this, the super kraken mk2 or a Friedman BE as a nice high end amp to pass down to my kids one day. Tube amps are the next vinyl and whilst you wait for them to gain in value you get to chug away on them 🤘
This amp continues to confuse me..and thank you, but god bless ya…you just made it worse. Explain it to me like I’m 5 🤣. Is a galaxy a channel, a preset, or a scene?
Think of Galaxies as options for each channel. Channel 1 is set as the clean channel. Channel 2 can be made into any three of the gain levels (or galaxies). Channel 3 can be made to be any 3 of the gain levels. The gain levels, or galaxies, are blue, purple or red. You can assign channel 2 to be the blue gain level/galaxy and channel 3 can be assigned the red channel. You can assign channels 2 and 3 to have the same gain level if you choose. So both of these channels could be red if you wanted.

This video deserves a part 2 with the amp in play mode, we've only seen the IR's so far, but I'd like to see the amp as an amp in action.
Yup
On our end it would be the same. He would have to mic a cab but the ir does all that and instantly is able to switch to different cabinets
@@erikhernandez2990 There is no power amp emulation on the astro 20 IR out. Chain goes preamp > IR's... It would be different if it was mic'd

I like that you mixed it up with LP standard. I think it sounded really good. I love the 20 watt amps that can still kill it!

Seems to be the future of guitar " amps " borrowing from the modeling world to include IR loading and power amp modeling. Well done demo .
Like to see a comparison against the Revv G20. Great video as always Ryan!

So it’s a Revv G20 without an internal reactive load? I think it sounds better than the Revv, but it costs a whole lot more
It DOES have an internal reactive load according to the Anderton's video.

I think calling it less than $2000 at $1999 is a bit misleading haha after tax, you are definitely way over. Seems like a cool amp, though.

I wonder how this would stack up against the soldano avenger 🤔
3 videos of the Soldano Atro20 by 3 different chanels in my timeline. Why don't brands see that this seems pretty fishy.
it's nice !!
Are impulse responses universal? Can they be used on any device that supports ir?
Yes!
hello may i ask what tunning your using for this demo?
Forgive me if my question is stupid, but as it's an amp with IR, will it burn out if you don't connect it to a speaker box that can handle 20 watts?
Nope there is an internal dummy load, you do not need to connect a speaker cab at all.
