    Been gigging this amp and it is so sweet. Plenty of oomph just through the cab with a drummer in medium sized clubs. Cuts through thr mix smoothly. Just some scary language in the manual about using the DI that no one addresses online. If you want to go cabless, you must turn the master to 0 AND unlpug speakers or you kill the amp. Apparently you can run the di into a board live and still use the speaker. But the manual is maddeningly vague about this. Needs a bypass switch or sonething to make it foolproof.

  • @IamMusicNerd

    What’s blows me away about this amp is how I can get just about any amp sound I have in my head, and it will do it. Everything from a Bassman to a Plexi to a Bogner. And of course the classic SLO sound for less than half the price of an SLO100. And it reacts fantastic to pedals. Such a great amp.

    Picked up one of these this week from a local shop. I've been using my keeley red dirt mini but I will have to try my SD1 in front. Glorious sounds from this Astro 20. Looks like you're doing what I'm trying with my presets. One gain is set around 11 o'clock and the other is around 2 o'clock. I have button 1 on the lower gain blue, button 2 on a higher gain blue, button 3 on the higher gain purple and button 4 on the lower gain red. Red galaxy with gain at 11 o'clock and boosted gets into some nice grind and punchy palm mute thuds for metal. Even with the high gain with this amp there's so much clarity and note separation. Lower gain blue is a little crunchy but cleans up easy with the volume knob so it's as clean as I need it to be :)

    How this Soldano Astro-20 watts compare with the EVH 5150iii 50 watts?

    Sounds great! I think the only thing they dropped the ball on is the shared 3 band eq. If they could have implemented a way to recall independent eq settings with each channel, that would have been an instant buy in my book. They already loaded this bad boy with most modern day needs, that would have been the icing on the cake.

    I am currently rebuilding an old London city amp from the 70ies ( 100w plexi clone) and turning it into a SLO-ish amp with EL34 tubes. I’ve gotten really familiar with the SLO and hotrod designs and know what I like about Soldano and what not. The SLO lead sound is a great sound for some occasions but I love the hotrod crunch sound as an amp sound much more. Like a Marshall 2004 JMP but just a bit hotter . It’s interesting that some amps now include new features like the IR and midi . Is it necessary ? I don’t know. The fractals and kempers got people spending more time tinkering with and managing sounds than playing guitar. This is going in the same direction.

    Are you sure it is a reactive load as opposed to a resistive load with digital simulation? Or asked another way does Soldano specify that it is reactive somewhere? I didnt see it on their page.
    I was curious if they would leverage the poweramp sim tech from the irtx for the DI. Or leverage a simulation IR of a reactive load on top of resistive.

    • @HVACRTECH-83

    • @rutger4131
      @rutger4131 Год назад

      @@HVACRTECH-83 1) Look into the Ignite amp. They designed an amp to design a plugin. 2) even easier for late night practice and recording to have the amp as hardware (too loud for most any environment) and as a plugin (not to piss off the neighbours). Makes a lot of sense actually. So much so that it's been done a few times.

    • @HVACRTECH-83
      @HVACRTECH-83 Год назад

      @@rutger4131 it's stupid lol. Whatever works forya I guess. I don't use plug-ins. And for silent practice I run my amps through my ox. I have a good amount of tube amps because it's what I like and have an addiction buying them and not one came with any plug in. Many of them have internal loads with XLR outs with or without ir's as well as headphone outs these days. Beats a plug in. Never heard of ignite but if that's what you like that's cool. Just never heard of any amp companies including plug-ins when you buy an amp. It defeats the purpose of the physical amp

    • @rutger4131
      @rutger4131 Год назад

      @@HVACRTECH-83 relax dude, I've owned, modded and even built many a tube amp. The Ignite plugin evolved into STL tones. In those sentences that start with "I" you are describing one way to solve a problem. There's many more. And indeed, if you have a plugin, an Axe FX or something similar, your physical amps are basically redundant. That doesn't mean it's not cool to own or play a tube amp. It's very cool actually. Back to my point: Soldano is already getting a piece of the pie from the plugin market by licensing their name to other manufacturers like Neural. Why not just take the whole pie? That could make sense from a commercial stand point. Cheers, bye now.

For that reason its important for me and my purse. New Output valves are expensive. 😀

    I don't know why but every review I see, this amp sounds sterile to me. Like it's lacking character. May have to play it in person. I don't get that from the JEL20 or Pink Taco V2 videos though....those sound fantastic. Little Break You at the end, yeah man! 👍

    Buy a Revv G20 for half the price or use that 2k on something else.
    I’m sure it’s absolutely wonderful but my advice? Wait a few months at least

    $1,995 for a little 20w head with two 6V6's is absolutely ridiculous... you should be getting a full size 100w head for that. Suckers.

      No, just annoyed that you write this on every video. It’s ok when you have an issue with the price, that’s fine. But you’re trying to convince everyone. Just have your opinion but unless you do a video of the amp, showing you have took your time with it to form a valid statement, this is just annoying bs ing.
