Been gigging this amp and it is so sweet. Plenty of oomph just through the cab with a drummer in medium sized clubs. Cuts through thr mix smoothly. Just some scary language in the manual about using the DI that no one addresses online. If you want to go cabless, you must turn the master to 0 AND unlpug speakers or you kill the amp. Apparently you can run the di into a board live and still use the speaker. But the manual is maddeningly vague about this. Needs a bypass switch or sonething to make it foolproof.
What’s blows me away about this amp is how I can get just about any amp sound I have in my head, and it will do it. Everything from a Bassman to a Plexi to a Bogner. And of course the classic SLO sound for less than half the price of an SLO100. And it reacts fantastic to pedals. Such a great amp.

Red galaxy with gain at 11 o'clock and boosted gets into some nice grind and punchy palm mute thuds for metal. Even with the high gain with this amp there's so much clarity and note separation. Lower gain blue is a little crunchy but cleans up easy with the volume knob so it's as clean as I need it to be :)

How this Soldano Astro-20 watts compare with the EVH 5150iii 50 watts? Next question: in a live gig at a medium-size pub with a loud drummer and NO mic on my speakers, could this Soldano Astro-20 watts keep up with a loud drummer in terms of volume?

I bet it’ll sell well but not what I’m looking for. I’ve got no interest in smaller amps, they just don’t have the depth and power in the low end which is especially noticeable when using baritone tunings.
I am currently rebuilding an old London city amp from the 70ies ( 100w plexi clone) and turning it into a SLO-ish amp with EL34 tubes. I’ve gotten really familiar with the SLO and hotrod designs and know what I like about Soldano and what not. The SLO lead sound is a great sound for some occasions but I love the hotrod crunch sound as an amp sound much more. Like a Marshall 2004 JMP but just a bit hotter .
