The explanation does not make sense to me. KK built schools, hospitals, roads and so much more for the benefit of Zambia and Zambians. In all honest Zambian copper has been recolonised and I'm of the opinion that a few corrupt individuals are benefiting not a common Zambian. It can be prudent if the current government looks at how mining rights contracts were and are issued. Copper remains the greatest God given natural resource we have as a country but its significance is not evidenced by the economic progress. We need honest, fair, firm and patriotic Zambians to lead the mining sector. I believe Burkina Faso's approach to its major natural resources is a suitable solution for Zambia.

The gentleman was very clear from the onset that we need to have consistency, we do not have the capacity to attract local investments yet. We have to build capacity to invest from local funds, all this takes time. The problem is mining is used to gain votes, we grab KCM from its owners so that the Gov looks good but then steal money using lawyers and liquidators. We have to give the mines to foreigners because we have no money to dig the minerals ourselves. How many zambians can afford half a billion dollars just to set up the mine before you spend more money again to mine?

KK was able to build those things because there was a capital base to tap from that was established from the pre independence period. Capital doesn’t come from thin air. Once nationalized, industrial and mining productivity began to decline. Mismanagement was abundant. Governments are notoriously inefficient: why would We entrust them with the cultivation of precious assets? GRZ should effect an attractive mining policy and stick to it in order to entice capital and skills development etc. Let local and private sector investors develop the businesses on the ground.
We have mismanaged the asset ourselves. It’s clear business sense, not patriotism that will allow Zambia to harness these resources.

@@rootsdubzyou have nailed it. Mixing politics and business is dangerous. It destroys existing capital and deters incoming interest.

@@maambomumba6123 Do you know we have local Zambians mining at a small scale but getting enormous profits but making less investments to broaden capital and benefits to fellow Zambians. You can have the right business mentality and skill but having no proper sense to help develop the country. Westerners have a great sense of Patriotism hence they contribute greatly to their national development. It's difficult to develop a nation minus being patriotic (loving and unselfishly devoted to the service of the country).

If i were one of those guys responding to your substantial questions Costa, i would've stopped showing up on your programs. As far as i am concerned those gents you invite do not have answers to your questions based on challenges we keep facing year in year out. They just come to fill the void in your programming. There could be a global remote hand pulling the strings. Infact our universities don't give them the required skills too.
