The World needs resources, and especially certain metals. This highly includes copper. The problem is not mining, but consuming. The mines will keep opening all over the World as long as we (especially the West) continue to consume the insane amount of resources that we do today. Merchandise won't simply spawn by itself.
30% stake for the government, is a pretty good stake. Remember Rio Tinto put up the capital and the expertise to develop the mine - Mongolia didn't/don't have that (no offence to Mongolia). This is how countries develop and START to prosper (provided there is transparency).
Exactly, on another front, the foreign wealthy company could have hired mercineries to get rid of all the local people, to make less friction to their operations, but they were ethical & drilled & made expensive nice water wells for the herders // who then turn around & complain ///
The Government of Mongolia should have 51% of share , lesser than that you been robbed, or the government must be bribed ! This none sense rules made international company like Rio Tinto get more and more greedier . . . Please learn, how they robbed Freeport mine in papua Indonesia for more than 40 years . . .
Minister said he was busy? Bullshit. He says that to mongolian journalists as well. He just don't know the real numbers about how beneficial it's for Mongolia nor real situation going on the mining site. He has no professional team under him. All his "team members" are just his party members who prized to become a part of government power. That's why they'll never defeat Rio Tinto in any kind of argument.
Anyone BUT America, That would be a noose around their neck, like it is for every other country who has had a fallout with the so-called democratic USA.
@Mathew Meehan no they bring they own workers and they get paid like 400$ a day while Mongolian toilet cleaners or clerks in the mining areas get paid 50$ a month so what are YOU on about? I live here and i know what's going on so don't give me that crap
Mongolian government should start with small, people mining places. That would create a jobs...A LOT of them. P.S. Just one thorium reactor should help the Mongolian greatly because it provide energy, heat and do not require bulky vessel or water to cool.

Ironic, given the herder riding around a mineral mined metal & fossil fuel powered motorcycle or motorbike, made using iron, steel, copper & other mined resources in its manufacture & operational life (spare parts, tires, lubricating oil, fuel ; furthermore the fairings & seat covering & cushioning & handlebar grips & wire insulators & turn signal lenses are made of petrochemical plastics produced by drilling crude oil out of deep hard to reach or rugged environments especially given that all of the easy oil already been extracted & combusted into mostly CO2 & water vapor (H20)(gas) & a trace of pollutants emissions that would have been catalytically reduced on a modern US legal motorcycle equipped with a 3 way catalytic converter, O2 sensors & other ECU data channels for advanced emissions controls that would convert most of the exhaust pollutants into nontoxic gas emissions
I dont like how you're presenting Mongolia here. Even the way they translated what the locals said annoyes the shit outta me. Kind of dehumanizing... Were just as smart you know. Anyways, we still havent reaped the benefits yet. All cause the people of Mongolia dont understand whats happening. The gov talks about it so much but an everyday Mongolian has no idea whats happening. All we know is that its a big deal. I didnt even know we were providing 30% of net copper production. Worldside. Wtf. Thats a lot. Hope my gov ealized what we have and made deals accordingly🤞🥲

This copper deposit is gigantic, historical find of geologists :)

I love that soft spoken, no nonsense Australian man at the mine site.

No Win Win for China on this mine but they have there eye on Rio Tinto's old Panguna Mine in.Bouganville
I'm surprised that they didn't invite American mining companies to give them more independence from Russia and China

We are literally wedged directly in between Russia and China can you please shut up

This type of deposits cannot be exploited by small scale mining. Porphyry deposits is possible exploit (economically) with gigantic open pit mines.
