This was the first RC car I ever owned and I built it with my dad when I was 9. My dad died a couple of years ago, just as I was getting back into the hobby. I finally found a NIB Boomerang late last year and felt very emotional building it as all the memories came flooding back. As you say, it’s an iconic car and the yellow shocks are a big part of that. I love mine and it’s only used very rarely so I can keep it looking fresh. As a kid, I changed the wheels for gold ones, so I might be tempted to that again, but otherwise it’s box art all the way!
Sorry to hear about your dad mate, I was smiling when you said you built this Boomerang with your pa when you were 9 as that was the same age I built the Striker with mine, and then I got a tear when you said he'd passed away. My father is in his 70's and showing signs of ageing so I'm trying to spend as much time with him as possible and your comment reminded me why that's so important. I bought a re-Lunchbox this week so we can build it together this Christmas as we haven't touched RC together since the Striker despite all the cars, planes and choppers I've had over the decades. Thanks for sharing your story, hoping you and yours have a great Christmas this year.
As an Aussie I highly approve of the Boomerang!! I had the Striker as a kid but always wanted the Boomerang. There's something about red, white and blue which is just iconic and the Boomerang is like Mad Max on steroids!! Must say, really enjoy your videos, but I equally enjoy going through your comments. It's not a hell hole like most youtube videos, instead it's filled with people reminiscing over the years gone by and the fun they've had with Tamiya vehicles. It seems the RC world is one of the last bastions of the Peter Pan effect where anyone of any age can drop by and feel the magic of being 10 years old all over again. Thanks for your channel, and thanks for the community you've built. What an amazing time to be alive.
Damn, I'd almost forgotten how good the Boomerang chassis build was! The Boomerang was my first proper RC kit back in late 1987, and now that they've re=released it I want one so much. I might have to splash out I think....🤪👍
Always loved the Boomerang, that was what I wanted for Christmas when I was 10 but when dad took me to Beatties in Nottingham the salesman told my dad i should have a 2wd if it was the 1st kit I would build! I was sooooo gutted but ended up with my FALCON and i truly loved that buggy so much! So much fun had and memories made 👌👍 Thanks for another awesome video Glenn. Have a great day and HAPPY RCing 😮😂👍
I still remember walking out of my house and looking left when i reached the top of our driveway and seeing the boomerang on the road . I was blown away and wanted one so bad. But never had one , but luckily i had the hornet bought me for xmas . Still have it, but unfortunately its in a sorry state atm. Great video mate and congratulations on building your collection all the way back up . 👍😉
My bread and butter buggy back in the day! Pure Tamiya and those yellow CVA shocks are a must lol don't upgrade them ever everyone lol, l don't even like it when we put the better twin set up on the front! The Boomer looks perfect boxart and stock! Yes l did the twin shock thing and a Parma shell etc back in the day but we appreciate these cars in stock way more now then we did for sure! You must of enjoyed this build Glenn its just about plum bang in the middle of the golden era! Great vid my friend. Cheers James.
The Boomerang was my first Tamiya sometime around 1987. I raced it on our grass course in Alton, Hampshire and it started my lifelong love for RC cars. I'm hoping to get a rere soon :D
Built one of these as a teen some time in the 80’s. Still got it in a box in bits. It had some hammer and many parts are cracked or worn but still occasionally think about restoring it and putting it back together.
It is a great looking kit! I just got mine the other day and I look forward to building it as well! Heading over to the Pedals site now to see what else he has over there!
Nice Glenn I have been trying to decide between new hotshot 2 or the boomerang for next build, lets face it I will probably still get both 😅, I just love hotshot base chassis
Subscribed! Awesome looking buggy! If you were mainly driving on pavement would you suggest 2wd or 4wd? Trying to find which would be hard to roll when make turns fast. Thank you!
wanted this car since i was 14 back in 1985. finally got a 2017 re-re and went into the garage to build it last night and got the rear gear box finished but was getting eaten by mosquitos so i came in and decided to finish it today instead...
I must admit, i do love the look of the Boomerang 👌 there’s something strange about doing a dry build, ive only done 2, like you. There never going to be run. But its great that you dont get grease and shock oil all over the place 😁
Nice, Glenn! I remember back in 1987 when I first saw the Boomerang cut-away on the cover of the Tamiya RC Guide Book. I fell in love, but never owned one until recently. Mine is from the last run, which was 2008, I think. Is that right? What's the difference in that last run and the 2023 run, aside from the included Hobbywing ESC because of shortages? Thx!
Nice work there Glenn. My Boomer is a restored Og one. I rather intelligently painted the body of mine with a TS white instead of the PS one. It's a little flaky. Very benign handling car though I found.
Just out of curiosity why didnt you grease the gear box ??i know its gonna be a shelf queen but why no grease..??..was it to save time?..great videos keep up the good work buddy
I was trying to find that pretty recent video you made about those micro Tamiya boxes, the kit boxes that where really small. I'm pretty sure you had a link or an email from the guy that sells them. Do you still have that video or email?
@Tamiyalegends - I'm curious to know why you don't grease the gearbox of a shelf queen. I'd think it would still be useful to do it in case you ever change your mind or sell the car.

Beautiful build. This was one of my favorites as a kid and i just ordered the re-release from Amazon. Looking forward to building this!
I love the Boomer…..built my re re last year and it’s such a cool classic. What a pleasure that video was to watch Glenn….top man!
Awesome build!
Memories memories and more memories Glen!!!!.. A true classic from that golden era.. Definitely a favourite of mine👍👍👍

The yellow CVA shocks are as iconic as the boomerang, in the 80s if you had the yellow CVA shocks you were the boss.

Wow, no one here yet. I guess I will say it, first! Love the build buddy.
Haha thank you Keith 😇👊🏻
I watched it with you😂

Love the Boomerang from here in Oz.
Thanks for watching 😅
and it always comes back😉
Great video buddy
Nice one Glenn, my first ever RC was the Boomerang back in 87.. still got it gathering dust in the attic. #memories
As a kid I remember helping a friend build one of these. Good memories

Love the Boomerang. Was my first Tamiya. Looking forward to seeing yours complete Glenn.

Nice 👍
Great video Glenn 👍 love the boomerang 🪃
100% love yellow CVAs they are 1980’s Tamiya ☺️
100% with you on the Yellow Shocks 😉 Love the build 🤩 🤝
Thank you again for great videos Glenn. Always stoked to see your take on every build. ❤
It is a great looking kit! I just got mine the other day and I look forward to building it as well! Heading over to the Pedals site now to see what else he has over there!
Nice Glenn

Nice build 😊boomerang is next up for me to build. I’ve already got my Winger body ready
Very nice Glenn. I have thought about doing the same with my Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 SP.
I saw one of these as a kid new at a hobby show and ended up buying a Hotshot II instead. I think the Boomerang would’ve been a better choice.
Really interesting to see the design philosophy - both similarities and differences with the thunder shot 👍

The yellow cva shocks are iconic and did you know the fox wss the first buggy that had them.

Still have the OE I won from you a few years back and still going well ... yellow CVAs have to stay 💛 or it just wouldn't be the same ..
Just out of curiosity why didnt you grease the gear box ??i know its gonna be a shelf queen but why no grease..??..was it to save time?..great videos keep up the good work buddy
Sure wish they would re-re the Falcon

I've only seen the 2008 release on Tamiya's site. Is there actually a 2023 edition?
100% talking 0% showing us building it wasnt a build was a chat
Got grease it up anyways. That poor kit.
