One of the GREATEST bands to come out of the 80's. These guys are the Godfathers fathers of ELECTRONICA NEW WAVE. ✌️
Nope, that'll be New Order, but Mode are close...
See them on their current 2023 tour if you can.
@@davidbrittain3212 You spelt "Joy Division" wrong
@@robprideaux3279 Ha! See what you did there but no....Joy Division had a few decent songs but New Order are far superior in my humble.
@@davidbrittain3212 loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
I followed Depeche Mode from the earliest days in the 80s, and I must say Dave Gahan morphed into one of the greatest onstage rockstars in history.
It blows my mind that there are people who don’t know Depeche Mode! This song is an absolute staple of their catalog. But I’m glad to see that there are some millennials who are interested in REAL music that isn’t auto tuned, it’s played by the actual artists, and they write their music. These guys have been killing it for forty years and still play better than most new artists out today.
I guess a lot of people know them without knowing they know them. 🤣 I took my 16 year old son with me to the show in Frankfurt last week and he was afraid, he wouldn’t know any songs. In the end he didn‘t know four songs, that was it. He was surprised how many songs he and his friends listen to regularly (remixes) are originally from DM. He was amazed by the energy and presence of Dave Gahan. It was such an amazing experience for him. 🖤🫶🏻
@@dianak.5412This was my experience listening to 101 for the first time in 88. “Hey, I know this! And this! And this!” Hooked and never jumped off the dM train.
That's an example of true love for a band. 30+ years later and still the entire place singing every word so he doesn't even need to.
IMO, Dave Gahan is the greatest frontman of all time. There is no one like him. I have been to numerous concerts and they have been my fave band for over 35 years. There is nothing in the world like seeing them live- the energy is indescirbable. Dave feeds off the audience and the audience feeds off him- the synergy is otherworldly!
He’s amazing, but number one will always go to Freddy Mercury for me.
Dave is one of the worlds best entertainers, and Depeche Mode has made iconic music for centuries. Looking forward to seeing them live again, in Copenhagen in June. It is always a religious experience 😎
Centuries? Lol. But otherwise agreed 100%!
Didn't know they been around for 200 Years
They started in the 80's. So technically, they've been making music for 2 centuries.
@Superstar Tradesman 20th and 21st Century. *Centuries*
Truth. Seeing them live is truly a religious experience. Have a great time at the show in June. I am going in November. 🥰
Violator is one of the greatest albums every made!
I love that the crowd knew the lyrics and sang. What a legend DM is. One of my favourite songs from them
Me too! 🥰🥰
There are a few things that are mandatory on a DM concert: On "Personal Jesus" you sing 'reach out and touch DAVE!' (instead of 'faith'), and on "Never let me down again" everyone waves their hands in synch with the chorus for that awesome 'wave/field' effect. Looking forward to watching them live again in Stockholm on May 23rd 2023!
As an introvert this song is one of my favorites, the lyrics are so relevant to me, "words, like violence, break the silence, come crashing in, into my little world. Painful to me, pierce right through me, can't you understand, oh my little girl." We introverts spend a lot of time in our own little worlds inside our heads and when someone starts talking to us, sometimes words are like violence.
Also, Depeche Mode are a legendary group, with many iconic songs. Depeche Mode headlined the electronic movement of the '80s, then became superstars in the '90s with their mix of synths and guitars. So many fantastic songs. They are still going strong, playing to over three million people on their latest world tour.
As a fellow introvert this song has always vibed with me too
💜💜
💜
You absolutely need to watch Never Let Me Down Again with Depeche live, the song is not only one of their best but the live concerts always include a special “thing” that started when DM played the Pasadena Rose Bowl in 1988, it has since been a tradition every time on NLDA live.
Dave is amazing on stage. Martin always sings a couple of songs live too, he has a fantastic voice. There’s thousands of live videos on him singing as well.
Yes you’ve heard DM thousands of times because they’ve been and are so popular around the world and certainly among music making people, DJs etc. When DM tour, they sell out 2.5 million tickets, most people in the Uk don’t realise that.
I saw them live 1986 the first time and in a couple of weeks it’s time again.
Depeche Mode have influenced many bands, look at they are idols to groups, Churches, Linkin Park, Arcade Fire, Coldplay the list goes on and on, what an amazing band pure legends.
Ramstein.
And Hurts❤
M83.Midnight City has a Depeche Mode feel.
Depeche mode founded in 1979 under the original name of "Composition of Sound" by Vince Clark and Andy Fletcher but changed to "Depeche Mode" second half of 1980, Dave joined beginning of 1980. I have been a massive fan since the beginning and have their whole discography with Kraftwerk, DM are probably one of the most influential bands in electronic music and influenced countless other bands. Their latest album "Memento Mori" is great, though dark which may have been influenced quite a bit by the death of Andy.
I grew up on DM and Kraftwerk as well. Their records, especially Violator, bring back so many memories. They’ll forever hold a special place in my heart. RIP Fletch
Plus one of the biggest selling bands of all time don’t forget 100 million records plus sold
Don’t forget Mr. Alan Wilder, he was the sound of DM until he left after the Devotional tour 😢
Depeche Mode concerts are one of my happiest places. The joy is infectious and every person there is full of love and excitement. It is electric because we are really like a family. Saw them last month and can't wait to see them again in November! ETA it broke my heart not to see Fletcher and his patented over head wave up there. RIP Fletch
💜💜
You’re so right.
It’s always like a big family meeting ❤
This song has definitely been mixed by many EDM dj's. DM are mentioned a lot by EDM dj's as an influence. Never Let Me Down Again, Personal Jesus and Behind The Wheel are awesome tracks
Yeah, its been remixed more times than I can count. Even though I’ve been a Depeche Mode fan for years, the first time I think I remember hearing this song was a remixed version that was in a PC version of Tetris at some point lol
Seen them twice including this tour. Absolutely brilliant. Dave could have asked the crowd to stand on our heads and we would have done in. Great stage presence ❤🎶
Dave is a HELL of a frontman, I watched them live twice .... totally worth the price of the thicket, they deliver...
Depeche Mode masterfully represents the music of the 80s and 90s. These guys made my youth here in Brazil. Yes i´m from Rio de Janeiro. Today I'm 50 years old, but when I listen to Depeche Mode it seems like everything happened yesterday. I recommend that you also listen to Erasure, and I don't even need to mention Pet Shop Boys... It's cool that there are a lot of post-millennial people who still enjoy good music.
This is an absolute classic, one of the gems that defined the 80s. That album was a masterpiece, every single song was special in its own way.
Dave Gahan is the greatest front man ever.
Really enjoyed your reaction to this amazing live performance, Dave Gahan is one of the best front man out there as you rightly pointed out his connection with the crowd is second to none, great reaction once again 👌
Depeche Mode is my all time favorite band. Been listening to them from the beginning. Still swooning after all these years. Thanks for sharing your reaction with us. I found you through Hi Ren. Ren is a genius! ❤DM FOREVER! ❤ Can't wait to see DM live in November.
Omg I was at the San Antonio show (hopefully will be at the Dallas show in October), it was fantastic! Best concert I’ve ever been to, hands down. 💜
@@ashleydixon4613 Something magical and wonderful happens when you experience DM live. Every single time. ❤
Hi, you have just witnessed one of the most important bands on the planet and you have also seen one of the best frontmen that has ever existed in the music industry. They are now on tour and are a success in any country.
I am 51 and I saw them twice in my 20's. I am so excited to bring my 22 year old daughter to see them in New Orleans!!!
Lucky. ✌️
Enjoy the silence is from the album “Violator” that came out in 1990.
I started listening to them growing up in Europe and they have been my favorite band !
Last time I saw them live I was wondering why so many old people in the audience, then I realized..... I was one of them🤣
I’m glad you like them, their songs can be dramatic and melancholic at times but their sound is always good!
Check out “Strange Love” from “Music for the Masses” album from 1987, then watch the 1988 live performance of that....
You should see him spin then when he was younger lol it won’t disappoint!
Bonsoir,
I’ve seen them many times and it’s every time epic. When 65000 people singing with Dave…. Amazing. Now I see DM in July in Berlin and I’m so excited
His voice has not diminished one-single-bit! Still so great. Yazoo and Erasure are also offshoots of DM. All great in there own right
I may be 100% wrong but I read many years ago that Vince Clarke left DM because he didn't want to be too famous...created Yazoo with the great Alison Moyet, left that himself as got too big after Don't go....started Erasure...oh dammit! 🤣
They’re are one of the greatest live stadium/arena bands of all time. True legends performing to enormous crowds and have been for nearly all of their 43 years as a band.. They’re my favourite band of all time. I listen to them every day. I had the privilege to see them again at Twickenham on the current mammoth world tour. To follow this band is a calling.
Depeche Mode released their first album back in 1981. They've been around a long time. Enjoy The Silence was released in 1990, from the brilliant Violator album. They are amazing live, one of my all-time favourite bands.
Thank you for commenting 💜
1981 to 2023 - Still selling out venues, and releasing relevant music . . . as far as being amazing live . . . there are few better!
@@millennialmeetsmusic Epic Chair-Dance! 💜😍
I was a schoolkid when this song was out in early 80s i am 53 now yet they look in their 40s at most!! they should be 60 surely lol! used to love DM when i was a kid
If you liked the interaction with the crowd watch Depeche Mode Never Let Me Down live in Barcelona
Dave always has a good time on stage and this feeds to the audience. Incredible band, still going strong. The godfathers of Electronica.
This is very emotional for me. When my daughter was born I used to, when there was no one else in the house, dance around the living room holding her to my chest as this played. Means a lot
People squeezed in glass = bondage, love, touching, proximity and on and on...
One will never find a DM song without multiple meanings.
It amazes me how some posters have no idea who some of the performers are that they are reviewing. These are some of the most successful and influential bands that have existed. I was in my teens in the eighties and grew up with this and today when I play this music my kids listen and enjoy it. Their relevance continues.
One of the best frontman.....ever... They were good then ,great now and will always be....
FYI, they girls in the background screen were real people. This particular tour was from 2013-2014...Long live Depeche Mode..greatest band ever
The ultimate compliment... when the crowd sings your song back at you! WOW
i've been fortunate to attend live DM concerts. always electrifying. these guys are the best at what they do. absolute legends.
I just saw them 4/23 at Madison Square Garden and it was absolutely electric! A Depeche show is a unique experience.
I've been to several Depeche Mode concerts, though only ever at stadiums and not a smaller venue like this one. The band and Dave Gahan's stage presence easily gets everyone going in the stands, even at the very back of a stadium.
I saw them in 1990 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. It was my second date with my wife to be. We're still married and all our kids love this band. That's how good Depeche Mode is.
Depeche Mode is one of my all time favorite bands. Simply legendary. The music speaks for itself.
this is where all the techno/dance music started from groups like this, remember they sound this good and they are all in their 50's and 60's now....
I am a grandmother who has seen these guys live twice. I have been a super fan since 1981. My son and granddaughter love them. You really need to get in touch with their entire collection. Seeing them live is transforming. I am a trained guitarist from the age of 7. I love Martin. Be proud that they are from Great Britain. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Welcome to British music of the 80s, the best by far, respects from South America...Depeche Mode, New Order, Madness, Pet Shop Boys, The Cure, Echo and the Bunymen, The Humsn League, Siuxie and the Banshees, and yes, Sex Pistols and The Clash, sooo many.
We call Dave the puppet master. He can control that crowd like no other. Watch the live video for Never let me down again to see him at work.
Dear Millennial, there is so much more to discover from the greatest band of the world!
I saw Depeche Mode in the early 90s & they were every bit as good as here... It was quite an energetic show. Thanks for the recall Becky. Take Care. 🕊🙏
Goosebumps every single time... MASSIVE BAND
Always a master showman! The look of aww on her face is how I imagine I was with my first DM exposure. Would love to experience it all again. ❤️😍🤩
My mom would blast Elvis Presley and DM in the house where I grew up so I became a fan quite rapidly, I had the chance to see them last year and I'll cherish that memory🥰
It truly blows my mind that some have no idea who Depeche Mode is? They've been performing for about 40 years and have only gotten better and better.
I've been a fan of DM for more than 30 years ... they are magnificent.
Just Can't Get Enough was released in 1981. Enjoy the Silence is from 1991. This concert is from 2013. They were initially a four piece with a singer and 3 keyboardists. Main songwriter Vince Clarke left after the debut album. He was replaced by Akan Wilder who eventually became a drummer then left the band. Martin Gore took over as main songwriter and slowly added playing guitar and now live he plays guitar half the time. Third keyboardist Andy Fletcher (on right) passed away a couple of years ago. Dave Gahan has remained the singer, though Martin Gore sings a song per album. They are now a duo but released a new album and are touring. They are one of the least likely bands to consistently sell out stadiums and entertain the whole crowd. Dave gets the whole place swinging their arms. It's 2013 and I don't see any cell phones.
Magic!! 😍More Depeche, please? "Home" for example, or "Walking in my shoes". Thanks for this one! 🙂
I was at that specific concert. Depeche Mode in Berlin (or in Germany) is always a blast!
Now try Personal Jesus from their Devotional tour
I really got into them in the 90's when I needed an escape from the daily influx of terrible grunge bands who were imitating Pearl Jam (poorly). They were a breath of fresh air and it really got me into 80's club/industrial music too. Also keep in mind this concert is pretty newish. Imagine them in their prime in 1989!
still one of the best bands around and certainly one of the best live bands in the world!
This concert was from there Tour of the Universe tour and this was probable 2009 or 2010. This has been my favorite band since 1979.
Saw DM 1995 in Florida! I’ll never forget that concert! One of my first and favorites ever. I had every album a new every word, but seeing them live was like nothing and I ever experienced before. Go down this rabbit hole! You will love them. Enjoyed your reaction🫶🏻💛🤭
Thank you 😊
You can spend a lifetime going thru all their music and you will keep coming up with new favorite songs. This band and this song specifically got me, my first girlfriend, in 1989. We talked for such a long time that night just about Depeche Mode.
Without Depeche Mode, so many good things in my life would not have been possible.
This song is immortal, timeless music really
It might have been Mike Koglin's, THE SILENCE (released in 1998), which used the instrumental part (most prominent near the end) - I remember it being quite big with the likes of Pete Tong and Judge Jules (on their Radio 1 shows). Maybe, give, I FEEL YOU, a listen? It basically sounds like a completely different band - no joke.
I have been listening to Rock and Metal since I was in my early teenage, but in 2000 when I was 18, I started dating with my first girlfriend and Depeche Mode was playing in her room all the time. Since then I've been a big fan of the band.
It's hard to believe a person from England doesn't know who Depeche Mode are. Especially being one of the biggest band to come out of England
4:13 People who you’ve been following in the trance scene actually listened to depeche a lot. You’ve got good ear that sounds used in this track are so 80’s. The album closed the 80’s when was released in 1990. A lot of gear used to record this album are the Icons of the 80’s, like drum machine TR 808, or Yamaha DX7. Especially Enjoy the Silence when you’d listen the remixes made by this band or producers like F. Kevorkian or D. Miller were made on the 80’s gears. This smells a lot of 80’s.
I was in concert in Frankfurt am Main on July 1, 2023. It was so beautiful. I'll never forget it.
My dear Becky, you have no idea how deep this rabbit hole is. It's 40+ years deep. In that time, there were drug problems, band members coming and going, alcohol issues, tour shows cancelled, you name it. Despite all that, they didn't give up. Always marching forward. But none of that matters. The only news nobody wanted to hear, or read about in newspapers was the loss of Andy Fletcher. Will they still march forward? Probably. They can get someone to play Andy's parts, but I doubt it will have the same charisma. Dear Becky, you really have to listen or watch the video of the live album "101". It will make you dance even more. Kind regards.
Thank you, I was unaware. 💜
@@millennialmeetsmusic All songs in the album are classics, and "Everything Counts" is probably the best one with audience participation.
Fun fact: In an interview, Martin Gore (the guitar player), has said that synthesisers were very expensive. In a twist of fate, a magazine collection with electronic parts to build a synth became available. He bought all the magazines and built his synth on his own. He said it was cheaper than buying a brand new one, and the rest is history.
Album: Violator Released: 1990 Songs of Faith and Devotion :Recorded: 1992-1993 best album
RIP Andy Fletcher
You're the babe! You stan the 80's. From one who was there and still vibing in 2023 (age 58)
Gen Xer to Millenial... You're welcome... You just discovered the very best Alternative Band of all time.
We have to keep in mind they wrote these songs in the 80-ties, when they had no laptops etc. they were seriously ahead of their time
It's funny watching an early performance of the young band on Irish tv versus this performance. How they've changed yet still the same. I've loved their music since about 1980 ish
So grateful to have seen them before they lost a member. They have spanned what seems to be my whole life from middle school through my senior year till even now approaching 50.. Their music is timeless and ahead of its time all at the same time.
Dave Gahan Is one of the top front men of the 80's/90's him and the Hutchence.
you see the best band of the world , an david gahan is the best on the stage.
The greatest band!!! Saw them in 1984 and in June 2023. Amazing! What an experience!! ❤
Dave = epic frontman. DM live is like none other.
They are one of my favorite darkwave bands of all time and I ask my DJ buddy to play this version in the club as it not only rocks , the visuals on the big screens in the club look amazing
I'm a millennial and they were my hero band since childhood. Nah, I don't believe you didn't know them.
First time I ever heard this song was MTV when they were still playing only music videos loved DM ever since ..incredible🔥❤
The trance tune you remember is The Silence by Mike Koglin.
He sampled this for his trance tune back in the late 90’s.
This is one of my favorite concerts I’ve ever went too… I saw them in Phoenix AZ. I had always wanted to see them back in the day. They we’re supposed to play here in Florida around my Bday. Then it was cancelled due to a Hurricane… I was given the chance to fly out to Arizona for their show and didn’t think twice and jumped on a plane. The Best concert for sure… a total blast… if you get the chance, GO See them…
PS: you should definitely look them up on here, total rabbit hole….
You millenials are missing out on of the the greatest writers, producers and entertainers of 40 years. Truly listen to the lyrics. Martin is a Genious.
But I have time to catch up right? 🥰
Recorded in 1989 but released in 1990 so theoretically it's still an eighties song since it was recorded in the late 80's. It was released as the second single from their seventh studio album, Violator (Released 5th Feb 1990)
Using the E-MU Emulator II and Roland TR-909 - typical 80s hardware.
The song was released in Feb. 1990 & one of their biggest hits.
Saw them twice violator tour 1992 NEC Birmingham.Bloody brilliant .RIP Fletch
Buckle up girl. You're in for one hell of a ride with any music from Depeche Mode. 🤠
i've liked every depeche mode song i've heard so far. it's only been the same probably 5 my whole life, i know i need to listen to them all one day but i'm saving it. just like how i have a show i love but it got cancelled over 20 years ago so i've got a few episodes to enjoy one day.
Nice knowing DM goes on to the next generation. It is a religious experience to go to a DM Concert
80's classic. Great live arrangement and performance. Another good one from a great 80's band is Simple Minds - East at Easter live in Verona '89.
Saw them live in Dublin last week. Dave Gahan is the most energetic frontman for a band. Exceptional gig 💃💃💃
Depeche Mode has more songs remixed than any other artist I can think of. I used to have an ipod filled with hundreds, and I mean hundreds of DM songs remixed by various DJ's from all over the world. The library somehow got wiped and I lost most all of it! It's still out there if you know where to look, though.
They've been around since 1981, and their fans know every word to every song.. Such a fantastic fanbase.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this as much as you did!
Thank you 😊
Was a pleasure to have lived through the music of the 80s 😊
Been a fan of DM since 83, been to concert of theirs every time they toured except once, what was cool is that at every concert even the most recent Momento Mori show in LA, I saw a lot of young people there, granted most were genXers like me, but it was cool to see the younger generation there.
Those are contortionists not a graphic which is so damn cool they are masters of really amazing sets etc. that are very cost effective. Young performers should take note.
The bands from the 80s were given to us by the music gods
Glad you like this song by my favourite band, it's a classic. Try reacting to 'Never Let Me Down Again' live, it'll make you want to be there.
