Oh. My. Gosh, bro. This intro hahahaha 😂 I loved this movie so much, and I felt it was some of Jeffrey Wright’s best work. It’s baffling how he’s not in more lead roles! The ending was all right, but I will say, i can imagine that’ll make or break the experience for some people.
@@ReelJames probably the outdated stereotype of it all 😅 those type of books are not what is required to be popular in 2023. Michelle Obama, Tanehisi, viola davis... which book in 2020's needs that type of ebonics?
I just saw this movie and it was great but that ending. Wow! I don't hear nobody talk about the last scene of the movie. I thought it was beautiful. The whole movie the writer's outraged with stereotypes and rightfully so but when he leaves the set he sees this young African-American actor reading a script in wardrobe wearing slave clothes probably for another movie on a different set. They both look at each other and give each other a gesture as if to say, "we do what it takes to survive, get our story told and get paid, but look how far we've come." I'm sure there's a much more deeper meaning in that ending especially when it's the last scene of the movie. At least I like to think so. I'm rooting for Oppenheimer at The Oscars but if this movie wins in some of it''s category I'm not going to mind. American Fiction was a beautiful movie.
Just saw this film last night and I cannot stop thinking about it. From the big speeches to the subtle moments and gestures. I don’t know where to start. My husband and I talked about it for hours last night
My wife & I were thinking about seeing a movie & saw that this one had a whole bunch of actors I really liked. So we watched the trailer & immediately decided we had to watch it. I absolutely loved the movie. Jeffrey Wright was amazing and I don’t think anyone else could’ve played the character better. I looked into it and found out it was based on a book, so the next day I purchased the audiobook and finished it it within 2 days. I enjoyed the book, but the movie was better, in my opinion. I’m definitely going to be buying it on Blu-ray when it’s released. I’m going to want to watch several more times.
The irony in the list of movies you rattled off in the intro that have won the award, and how they are exactly what they would be if that lineup were in this movie as well. 😆😆 I loved how this movie was so dead ass right on on the interior story, and also on the whole movie itself. Every trope that white people would want to see is in the actual film, before you even get to the movie-inside-a-movie. So fucking meta and so fucking right on. 😆😆
I can't wait to see this film next week. I've been waiting since I saw the preview a few months ago. I always enjoy your reviews. This is basically a modern retelling of Bamboozled.
This is the first time I have visted your channel and I have to say I loved this review. I have only seen the trailer to this movie and I was immediately intrigued! I really liked the fact it was highlighting overused annoying & offensive tropes in a very humorous way!! This review was a lot of fun and it was insightful. I also think serious topics like this (as you said) can be made more palatable to a larger audience when humour is involved. You have a new subscriber!
"I'd have no problem sitting down face to face ..." the meme of the woman taking off her earings: "I just want to talk.." popped in my head. Great Review! Sub'd 😎☕💋
MUST SEE. The cast is phenomenal - the banter between Jeffrey and Tracee was relatable and funny! You’ll be entertained and happy to see a very well written script. I haven’t been to the movies in over 4 years and when by chance I saw this trailer recently - something just spoke to me and called me to go see it. So glad I did - I went last Tuesday night before the showings went away last Thursday. And yes the caucasians were eating it up as well. Also made me think - I’d infer they were laughing at how woke/pandering their counterparts in the movie were being and hopefully cringing on the inside. This is worthy of seeing again! Tait, just came across your channel, awesome take 😉. I’ll be watching more videos!
Yaaay! They finally released it in Maryland!!! It was soooo good! Man! I can't wait to see it again. Such great writing, acting, cinematography and soundtrack! I came, I laughed, I cried! All the feels!
I just left a comment on your older "Take" for Forty-Year-Old Version, not knowing that you'd done this. It's related, and maybe you'd be interested, so I'll just copt and paste it here... "Random Harlem dude #15." LMFAO. Nice take, Tait. I've watched this movie [40 year old version] 3-4 times. It kills. Wondering your thoughts on this: Last night I saw American Fiction. Seemed to me that it was dealing w/ some similar issues/situations/ideas, and though Jeffrey Wright is one of the great living actors, in my view he couldn't save it on his own. I left the theater thinking to myself that AF was a very weak, pale shadow of Forty-Year-Old Version. It felt to me like it got filmed and finished way, way too soon and if they'd spent another year working on the script and overall concept of the movie, it coulda been so, so much better. Rock on...
Entertaining and thought provoking film, but it must be said that it takes its primary premise from Spike Lee’s 2004 masterpiece “Bamboozled”, and that on the whole it has an unmistakable Spike Lee “vibe” to it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'm one of those mysterious white (possibly off-white) people. I was laughing at the clueless white people, and that it was a family of wiseasses with a lot of funny insults. Also, Monk was funny, he could simultaneously facepalm and head-desk just with his facial expression. Of course, I don't know what the white people you were seeing were laughing at, I'm just one sample point.
PLEASE do a video on this new season of Singles Inferno!!! When watching Ep 2 there was a moment, you’ll know when, I gasped and said one I wonder what’s Tait’s take?!?!
@@TaitsTake You’re missing out. It’s not as sweet as Love On The Spectrum but it’s a Korean show on Netflix and they tend to be more wholesome than an American show like Love Island. If someone steals a kiss you start blushing 😊 lol
I watched this in one of the whitest theaters because of it’s limited release…it just added to the funny for me. Like when that color purple reference blink and you miss it came on I cackled but only the black ppl got it.
Young man, you might want to reconsider speaking with this strange cadence you seem to favor. My take (pun intended) is that it's good for teenagers but not so brilliant for grown men. I couldn't get trough the your whole video, however curious I was to hear the rest of what you had to say. I saw the movie. I side with Armond White, the film critic. He compared watching "American Fiction" to finding himself in a sensory deprivation chamber. He gave an interview about it that everyone should see. Video is entitled: AMERICAN FICTION (2023) - Movie Review (and the Return of Armond White!). In conclusion I'll just leave you with this thought. Of the three Black movies you mentioned won a people's choice award at TIFF, all of them are problematic with some anti Black trope or other. So, is it even a compliment to put a flick in the same basket as 12 Years a Slave (2013), Green Book (2018), Precious (2009) ? P.S. Don't take my criticism too much to heart. There's a million things you do right. For example, great research and pop up pictures to illustrate. As well, your whole décor is cool!
The cadence in which I speak is the cadence in which I speak. You will always have the right to ignore it and watch people who don’t sound like teenagers. Also, whether you like the movies* or not, I would imagine the director is proud to be in the conversation of other movies that have won the people’s choice award. 🙏
The film had a good plot but poor execution. The books in the film never really spoke on what they really said or how different communities received it. The white people in the film seemed like caricatures and overly stupid. The message was very flat. I think it's strength is it was filmed beautifully with great actors. But was rubbish to me and seemed like he didn't know how to end it.
Dude! You almost had me (sending ❤/flowers on review); and then you describe ‘American Fiction’ as satirical; NO! Tis a story, drama with suspense, humour as co-stars.
