Beautiful job, Chris! Your gentlemanly elegance truly shone here, and your, "Black Card," is most definitely intact. I always love love love your Christopher Walken 2.0 verbal cadence. This review took your down-to-earth professorial skills to another level. Impressive!! Thank you for once again pointing out something worth watching on Netflix - and then some! I saw the theatre play in SF, many years ago, and didn't even know about this production. I shall check it out, post haste!! This is one of the best reviews I've ever seen - of alllllll reviews, ever. Aloha, and mahalo from Kauai!! Bless up, everyone!
Tait, you did a wonderful job with the background/history lesson of this August Wilson play: The information was indeed necessary, and definitely contributes to an understanding of the film text. The work you’ve done to analyze this latest iteration of The Piano Lesson is appreciated. I’m a “regular Tait’s Taker”, and I also have PhD in English (so had to study August Wilson numerous times). If asked, I’d give you an *A* for your research and interpretation - bravo! And I’m always proud of what you do here on your channel.
It's so sad that your regular reviews don't get that much attention, they are brilliant! Don't give up, though, people will come to their senses eventually!
Dude every time I come back to your reviews I’m remind how amazing your videos are. You’re hilarious and entertaining and I don’t understand how you don’t have millions of subs. Keep up the good work man.
When are you going to buy "Fences", "Ma Rainey" and the others Tait? We all need physical copies of all Wilson's works. This was a marvelous review and history. Thank you.
@@TaitsTakeI’ve been reading the century cycle and I’m currently reading The Piano Lesson and have read fences as well but by far my favorite has been Joe Turners Come and Gone. HIGHLY recommend it it was so so so good!!
Great review! I so enjoyed your history lesson and the overall story behind this film. Thank you ever so much for sharing the interviews at the end! 😇🤩
thanks for the history lesson!! i’m excited to see the other 7 movies. now, i’m team keep the piano because that land can be taken but the ancestral connection to that piano is theirs forever.
I saw this last month in the theater in Miami. I was the only person in the theater! It was wonderful as far as the story telling and acting. I enjoyed it.
I came here from your Later Daters review. I also attended a Catholic school named Corpus Christi (in England) which is now closed. Glad to have found your channel. Loved “you’re gonna get this Black history”!!!
Thank you for this review! We need to know more about AW’s work. All of his plays are works of art. I’m actually working on a AW project where I’m designing mini sets for all his shows. What an alignment!
Yaaay, you’re back! So happy to see you(‘re well, I hope..?) Love the review, and absolutely the best movies are those with multiple perspectives, maybe even all of them convincing and relatable. Your hair is looking absolutely spectacular, too, so glossy! 🤌🌟
@ I really was worried. Anyway, gorgeous, eloquent review and history lesson! I regret not being able to watch the movie because of the horror elements 🥺, it looks like such a good one.
Good background info! Catholic school had us reading Pride and Predjudice and all that. I learned about August Wilson from black people who are authors and/or lit scholars.
Yes. We knew about August Wilson, the brilliant playwright. We saw The Piano Lesson as both a movie and a play. They were both very well executed. Here in New York, Broadway is the center of the universe. We see a lot of plays and enjoy theater at every level. Join us some time.
Really enjoyed the history in the beginning. Learned a lot. I really enjoyed the film!! Congratulations on going to the screening and interviewing the cast at the film festival
Great review, as always! Radio Golf, the final play is the only one I haven’t seen. Seven Guitars and Two Trains Running are my favorites. I hope they complete the cycle.
@@TaitsTake Perfect! That's more than enough time to get your paperwork in order. Don't forget to cancel your health insurance. We've got you covered. 🙂
Fantastic, Great question, Thanks for being transparent in your reporting of not knowing more or Mr. Wilson’s work. That usually encourages the growth of knowledge. … Sidenote: Why the FLEX with the jewels?
Yeah! A Tait video. Loved the history lesson. I knew about August Wlison but only Fences. Watch Down in the Delta sometime, with Alfre Woodard,; Maya Angelou directed it, Esther Rolle's final movie. It has a similar strand, but a different story. Love your videos!
I so appreciate, your take on this! I disagree on the course correct part however. I adore Danielle Deadwyler, I would show up to watch her pick her nose. I do not feel this is the film for her to win an Oscar. I want her to win for something she gets to flex a little harder for. Sam was exceptional, I love the way he slowed down for this character. Corey Hawkins was amazing.
I’m black. Blackity black and I’m black. There were too many holes in the story, and the acting was great but not amazing. If she doesn’t win anything she won’t be “snubbed”, she’s still got a lot of practice to do.
This new version of the Piano Lesson, doesn’t do justice to the other one at all! Especially, the performance of David Washington was the worse. Too passive, not enough energy!!

Thank you for this review and history lesson. As a french Caribbean I love to learn about brothers and sisters ❤
Amazing background knowledge! Thank you for that - you’re right, it’s a must have before discussing the current version of the play. Much appreciated!
If I didn’t know, I’m sure a lot of others don’t either so I’m happy to do the work!
