Those Gen 2 Mec-Gar 9mm 1911 magazines really are the best and it's not even close. Sold all my Wilsons and Tripps in that caliber and haven't looked back since. M-ARMS makes different aluminum base pads for them if that's something you're interested in. Hope more manufacturers produce base pads as well.
I've gotten I mecgar recently that wouldn't drop free , it was bought off ebay , a Chinese clone maybe I really can't say but haven't actually used it yet.
I have Mec-Gar mags in .45 and 9mm and on had an issue with one in .45. The finish on it was really thick and it wouldn’t drop free. I throughly scrubbed it down and had no issues afterwards.

Thanks for that information on the base pads! I will get some! I agree, the Mec -Gar magazines are the best out there.
On my 9mm macgare I had to file the left lip because it hit the ejector of my Ruger 1911 SR.
After doing this they work great.
