The genetics of autism fascinates me too, and if I had an opportunity I would love to volunteer for an autism genetic study. Like you said though, the environment also has a part to play and more research needs to be done there too. I'm hopeful that in the not too distant future we will have a much more accurate picture of the nature of autism and its relation to other conditions - so long as the NDM doesn't deter research that is!
