I believe his brother who had adhd and who was very impulsive died in a car crash, which has no doubt reinforced his view of the seriousness of adhd. I'm actually surprised at just how much some adhd advocates have embraced the NDM - such as one of the UK's adhd charities (ADHD Foundation) which has gone so far as to call itself 'The Neurodiversity Charity'. It seems utterly counterproductive because adhd is already treated with a great deal of scepticism in society and often not taken seriously, so adopting the NDM paradigm which itself trivialises disorders and presents them as neutral neurotypes is hardly going to help.
