  • Today’s travel tips video is for an unaccompanied minor flying alone who is scared about the flight process. I will share tips for children who will fly by yourself and just do not know what to expect or do. I’ll teach you how you go through the Transportation SA line, what you can do in the airport, what will happen at the gate where your airplane is parked, and I will give you some tips on what to expect in the plane while flying alone.

      It can be. I find that teens still read signs that are in the airport. But the airport app has a map so hopefully they will figure it out. Can you imagine though being a teen and flying? How cool!

      Hi Noelle. Is there any way you can go by car if this bothers you? Knowledge is power so you are on the right path. Download the airline's app and your airport app in case you need to read the map or something. Arrive 2 hours before boarding not departure so you're not in a hurry. And enjoy the journey!

    My oldest daughter has been flying by herself since she was 7. She just turned 38. Her dad’s job transferred him out of the country when she was 6. We were very lucky his stepmom was a flight attendant for American Airlines. The only really scary ones for me was when he lived in Japan! She had to fly without her grandmother. She has had her passport since she was 7. Of course TSA, airport and airline rules have changed a lot since the 80’s and 90’s.

      How did she do at such young age??? My daughter is almost 8. And she's always going back and forth ,from my homwtowm to her moms. from Texas to Michigan and vice versa. It's gotten to the point where all these plane tickets pile up. To where I've considered letting her fly alone. But of course she's my baby I have My concerns. Is it really safe ? What did your daughter think of that ? Her mom just told me she will be unable to fly due to medical condition. So basically I'd have to fly there to pick her up. Fly back to Texas. Then after the summer fly back to Michigan to drop her off, and then fly right back home.

    My aunt moved and shes paying for my ticket to visit her this upcoming summer and non of my other family can come as it affects there schedules so I'm going alone I'm almost going to be 15 but still 14 when I travel but this made me feel way better cause just talking to her about what dates I wanted to fly out was making me panic. So this is great also the fact you mentioned the airline I'll be flying with gives even better help for me and some of these things I didn't even know and I've flown before as an um but with my siblings who two out of three where over 16 and I can't remember much from back then. So this gives me great hope thanks ☺️

    Sometimes the flight attendant will move you to a different seat about 20 minutes before landing. When I travelled alone (at 7) she took me to an empty seat in first class so I was closer to the front of the plane.

    Hi! I'm 15 and taking a 22hr flight with one 3 hour stopover (England to Australia) in a few months. My parents are sending me off from London and I have family members meeting me in Brisbane.
    This will be my first time travelling alone, and I've only flown a couple of times with my family.
    I'm so nervous (despite being older than a lot of unaccompanied minors!) I'm most nervous about the stopover as I'm scared of getting lost or missing my flight. I have a few months to prepare for this but yeah, feeling very nervous at the moment about airport stuff and being on the plane by myself.

    For anyone worried, i used to fly internationally many times without speaking the language, and trust me, you will be absolutely fine. You will have someone walking around with you, you don't need to worry about where you are going because they will be guiding you the whole time. The more you can relax, the better. If it is a domestic flight you don't even need to worry about any language barriers like I did (And even then I was fine).

    I’m hoping to fly to my grandparents by myself in the fall (hoping covid doesn’t come back 🙏) and I’m hoping my parents will let me fly by myself. I’ve been to both of the airports in my area before. One is super tiny it’s almost impossible to get lost. The other is an international airport and much bigger, but hopefully my parents will be fine if I use the AA GPS to get me to and from my gate 🙏 The only problem with the super tiny one is that it only goes to Dallas and Chicago. I’ve only been to the Dallas one once (well once that I had to change terminals), but never to the Chicago one

    Great walkthrough! I have a teen that looks older than his age- tall! 😅
    If an UM is to wait for the the flight attendant to get him to the next gate or airline employee to drop off at another gate after landing and that NEXT flight/plane decided to leave early or changes- will the crew/pilot be expected to wait for this UM that’s being guided by an airport employee to arrive before take off (since they had to wait last to be let out)?
    I get nervous at the thought the UM would miss the flight (even if the fee for UM were paid to assist).
    Thank you!

    if i opt for the unaccompanied minor program, will an airline member guide me through security and all the way up to the plane? also mine is a two part trip so during the stop, will the airline member have to be near me at all times? also i dont eat the food on airplanes so will the airline member let me buy food during the stop? and finally, during the plane ride, is it possible to have them seat me in an empty row so i dont have to sit next to a stranger?

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie
      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  2 года назад

      Hi, it's going to be great. You will feel so confident. On your ticket that you print out or pull up on your app 24 hours before the flight, you'll see your boarding area. Some airlines have names for Boarding Group 3 or The Diamond Group. So you just listen and read that ticket and just get in line. For southwest, you just go to the number at anytime and stand there.

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie
      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  7 месяцев назад

      Just follow the app-usually you’ll get noticed when you land but check the airport site or app to see how to get to it ahead of time. In LA you have to walk a ways to get to Uber.

      Hi, remember you do not have to use the unaccompanied minor policy. I would search unaccompanied and the airline. Maybe they would give you a pass to walk through security to the gate with your child. Your airline would have to do that.
