I served on a WW2 LST (Landing Ship, Tank) in the western Pacific back in the 1960's, it was 99 X 15 meters (326 ft X 50 ft.), with a crew of 100. Our berthing compartment was 2.73 meters by 6.07 meters (9 X 20 ft.) and had 5 stacks of 3 bunks for 15 men, right underneath the main deck. Living and working conditions were HELLISH in the tropics, food was poor, water tasted like it came from a public swimming pool, but the thing that made it bearable was the constant adventure of moving from obscure port to obscure port (and some really cool ones) and getting onshore liberty almost everywhere we went as we were a working ship and always busy. Comparing my LST to your ship would be like comparing a row boat to a yacht. Very impressive vessel and very interesting tour and channel...cheers and a hearty thanks to your company for permitting you to make these videos.
On the downside, it looks like modern mariners go onshore less often that they used to do. Modern ports are often far from anything, and all these security areas ... Am I right ?

Yeah; military ships are a totally different world. A modern cargo ship is just a box designed to mainly hold lots of smaller boxes, and the crew requirement is vastly smaller... and simple _space_ is nowhere near at a premium as it is on a warship. A handful of people to drive the ship (per shift) and another handful to do the never-ending maintenance, and that's it. The requirements and capabilities of a warship are much greater than what is needed on a cargo vessel, and shapes the whole design environment for ship builders...
Thankyou for a very informative video. I am very impressed by the spotless condition of the ship and the trouble that Maersk have taken to provide a quality place for their staff. Congratulations too, to the captain nd all of your fellow crew members.
Nice video! Im surprised with security concerns that you are actually allowed to give so much information about the layout of the ship and crew quarters.
Nah it's fine , normal civilians aren't allowed and can't access a cargo vessel unless they are given special permission by the captain and are watched at all times. When there are paying travelers onboard shipping vessels the crew usually locks the access to dangerous areas where the visitors aren't allowed such as the engine room and the bridge.
@@josephbennett3482 Is that actually something a regular person can do? I like the idea of booking passage on a container ship, but I'd imagine the months of travel time staring at the ocean might not be such a great experience.
@@MLB9000 yes with special permission from the captain of the vessel and clearances for safety reasons people can book a trip on a cargo vessel as a visitor , it's usually the most cheapest way to get from one place to another but with terrorism being a big concern most shipping companies don't ok it.
Thank you for taking the time to instruct and entertain us. If I was part of the crew I would spend my free time sun tanning and meditating on the monkey island. PS: Everything is so clean and organized, I'm impressed. Cookie points for everyone. 😁
Great Information and great efforts, I didn't know much about Merchant Navy but these types of videos can help Sea Pirates as shown in Captain Phillips.
It's a bit difficult because you have to have your maritime certification and have the knowledge on being able to repair and maintain a ship if something goes wrong , and you have to pass a lot of security background checks so the shipping company and federal agencies know that you're not a threat to the safety of ocean vessels , lastly ship crews have to pass a health check to make sure they are fit to do the work and trips that last literally weeks at a time.
At the university that my cousin attends, its difficult to get into the Faculty of Logistics and even more difficult to get a seat in the maritime major, the acceptance rate is less than the faculty of medicine at the same univ. The difficulty begins even before you get a chance to study this branch.
Another wonderful video sir again ofcourse yours all video are are very interesting sir and a good knowledge sir . AND waiting to see a video of GP rating fresher video sir

How the hell do you keep the inside quarters that clean. Considering the size of the interiors and how spic and span it is, it would take an army to keep it this clean. Whoever is in charge of the cleaning, is doing a great job.
Not much dirt at sea and you don't wear dirty overalls past the change room or the steward will roast you. A crew that doesn't keep their living quarters clean is unlikely to be taking correct care of the rest of the ship.

Oh wow amazing. I spent many summers on my dad's ship in the 1980s and this brought back so many memories and tbh smells of being on a merchant ship. Fantastic videos. We need to remember the work of the Merchant Navy ❤
Really loved it, this Accommodation video Karan sir!!!
These kind of stuffs really inspirational for Aspiring Mariners.
Thanks a lot Karan sir ♥️
You are welcome ❤️
Very impressive! I knew Maersk was a big company, but they really provide for their crews! Those theater chairs would probably put me right to sleep! Safe travels, sir!
All pirates thank you for the detailed tour!

I've been in countless conference rooms on LPG ships for pre transfer meetings lol. Never been on a vessel for a meeting where they didn't offer food or beverages. Every single merchant mariner from overseas I personally encounter have been the most professional and courteous people I have ever worked with.
Freedom, open-air, adventure… You found all that at sea, congrats mate!

Hello, Karanvir, l watch your great videos. In this video you mentioned cinema onboard. I worked as a technician at NDSM Shipbuilding company in Amsterdam from 1975 until 1986. Container ships Incotrans Spirit and Incotrans speed were built with a cinema, indoor and outdoor swimming pool and gym in 1979. Also very hi-tech engine control Systems.
Keep making nice videos.
"SHUKRIYAAAAA, Tusentakk, Thank You, Dankjewel for adding free publicity in this video for the Welfare for all of You onboard❣🙏🏽 Your library looks awesome and glad to hear you appreciated the books too. I can see our At Sea magazines are at display too as well as other SHW services, sports, and games. As afterall, we are aiming at creating a better, healthier, relaxing life at sea for you. It is vital to keep orgaising social activities together as that is improving the ambiance onboard too. And Thank You for saying "I Rock"😊💃🏼 well dear Karanvir, so do you and "Let us keep ROCKing together"🥳🥳☸☸💃🏼🕺🏽 After your time off, we catch up. Enjoy India and see you soon, Namaste🙏🏽🌞🌄🙋🏼♀️❣" P.s. for the viewers who are have no clue: why is the top part of the vessel called "Monkey Island"?....⚓🚢💙
Hi Belinda! That was such a cool video! I hope you are doing great and the weather is not too cold and stormy in Brielle this winter. Take care! ❤️
Hope to see you next time Belinda ❤️

Awesome video. Just found your channel. Keep up the good work. Very informative.
Thank you
I was on 3 ships during my time in the Navy, I like this better! New Sub.
Hey Karan Sir 😊 ! Hope you are too good after getting back to India ! Got That Thing What I Was Really Excited and waiting for ❤️ Accomodation Tour
Happy to read that buddy
@@KaranvirSinghNayyar 😊😊❤️
Thankyou for a very informative video. I am very impressed by the spotless condition of the ship and the trouble that Maersk have taken to provide a quality place for their staff. Congratulations too, to the captain nd all of your fellow crew members.
Glad you enjoyed it
Outstanding video sir.... And thank u very much for working this hard for us....u never fail to suprise us with u wonderful content and videos 😇
Thank you komal
Congratulations Karanvir for showing the accommodation beautifully. All the best and God bless.
That ship is incredibly clean. Nice video!
I am blown away. How difficult is it to become a crew member on a ship like that?
It's a bit difficult because you have to have your maritime certification and have the knowledge on being able to repair and maintain a ship if something goes wrong , and you have to pass a lot of security background checks so the shipping company and federal agencies know that you're not a threat to the safety of ocean vessels , lastly ship crews have to pass a health check to make sure they are fit to do the work and trips that last literally weeks at a time.
@@josephbennett3482 that would make for a great video.
At the university that my cousin attends, its difficult to get into the Faculty of Logistics and even more difficult to get a seat in the maritime major, the acceptance rate is less than the faculty of medicine at the same univ. The difficulty begins even before you get a chance to study this branch.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT TOUR …Good to see the excellence of Maersk crews and ships …..💪💪
Glad you enjoyed it
Enjoyed this a lot , when I see ships going past I often wonder what it’s like on board . Also Karanvir is charming 👍
Thank you Alex

Thanks Sir for enlightening us about how you seafarers survive and work for a long time at sea, wish you all a safe journey, and locking for the next upcoming video, God's speed Sir ...
Wow, the largest ship I've sailed on as crew is 20,000 tons or so, that accommodation is sheer luxury!
It is indeed
I love seeing the slop chest .. it is so cozy place knowing there are treats and comforts aboard the long time away from convenience.
Indeed a cozy space
Great video. Love these container ships. I'm used to Great Lake Freighters. I didn't know there were so many accommodations aboard. I collect ship hats. Does Mearsk have a web site that you can order a hat or shirt ?
Stay healthy and well. Keep up with these great videos. Cheers from Sarnia Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
They do have one website jeff
@@KaranvirSinghNayyar nice I will take a look. Thank you sir.
This was a fantastic video. I wish I was aware in my teen years that such a career existed, thank you
How the hell do you keep the inside quarters that clean.
Generally it stays clean

I came across some nice comments about her on RUclips and I gave it a shot! I didn't believe in bitcoin before Thanks for introducing me to Mrs Lynne Ellen rule she is good
@Casino Şimşek I think you should consider being a RUclipsr and have your own channel. You share some good tips for strategic investments.
Maersk is a great company. Congrats to be there as 2nd OF. Interesting videos you have done. I have a 14 m Sailing Yacht, just for fun. But I have a Diesel I use only for harbour or to fill the accu. Radar, GPS, Whether Plotter and other Instruments. I rounded the world down in the 40s and lower. But Pacific in a good season is more relaxing. Mostly I am in the English Channel and my harbour in Netherlands. My boat has a Saloon , 3 cabins. 2 Bathrooms and a kitchen. A small machine room. All in 14 m not 2-3 containers on your ship ! Good wind ( 6-8) she goes 12kn min. ! I can sail it alone. At lonesome places with automatic pilot when wind dont changes.. But in strong wind over 7-8 the sails are hard work if you have to change. I try to do that before the strong wind arrives..
Thanks for the videos , go on please !
From the starting till end of video was really interesting. I personally love this video❤ I was waiting for it so long and the video was really worth of waiting💯 Thank you bhaiya for explaining every details about all 9 decks🥺 I've got a clear vision about accomandation from this video. i've always wondered how an inside of this ship looks like, wow! thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed the tour!
I was a bit worried that potential pirates would look at this video and then they would know exactly where to go,if they would try to attack your ship, but I hope that I’m wrong,be safe on your journeys, and thank you for a very nice video :) :) :)
Great Accommodation tour K.S.N. Looking forward to more videos just like this one.
Thank you

A couple of years ago,I was sailing as bosun on container ship, when I was walking around the ship before we pulled out, came to the weight room, with an adjacent room with an empty pool. About 15ft square and 12ft deep. The use sea water, once we get out to sea they fill it up. It was nice being able to jump in and swim.
Thank you for sharing
Nice one Beautiful deck, better occupied and share with a skilled one.Best working atmosphere.
That was really interesting, Thankyou for showing us around 🙏

Hi, Karan. Good day to you at work. . . !
Hope you are doing good, only few dare to choose to frame their outstanding life being away from home, very strong will power and confidence to accept challenges to face any forces all the way , good luck.,
The accommodation tour was fantastic and you showed us so many things which are beyond the reach for common man's imaginination .
Best wishes
Thank you for all the appreciation
Thank You for this. I spent many years working on passenger cruise ships and always wondered what the crew areas were like on modern container and freight ships. They are very similar, albeit in a different scale.
Glad it was helpful!
It looks like in all these common areas there may be lots of stuff that should secured in rough weather to avoid being thrown about.
I'm assuming you guys can use the pool when you want as long as seas are calm, just flip the pump on and fill it up with sea water?
I really enjoyed that and subscribed for upcoming videos. I worked on board cruise ships for 5 years, therefore share your interest. You covered that tour quickly, but adequately indeed. I was surprised no one was on the bridge though.
Thank you for watching
Thank you for the tour and heads-up on Ship Life at Sea.
