👇 ABOUT ME:
Hey! I’m Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is de ply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.
When I was 18, I was signed to a major label and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I’m also a bass player, I’ve played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you’re not building!
I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my RUclips channel - I’ve been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a ‘niche’! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, RUclips channel and Social Agency.
It’s great to meet you and looking forward to working together on your music!
i didn't even have anything in particular to say, truly
but you have given me tremendous value, thus i am happy to follow both criteria of your hyper call to action
subscribed and commented! :)
Thank you so much! :) That's made me really happy!
Right now I'm running a presave campaign on spotify in the hopes of placement on high traffic Playlists. These Playlists are literally making ppls careers overnight.

Damian is doing a great job in our community, but he wouldn't be evil either if he wanted to monetize his work by demanding a contribution from the people he's contributing to.
I second that :)
Sup damian! I’m a new artist (I’m 16 years old) i love producing experimental music and rn I’m making an album, an album for the people, “scars” it’s an album about people’s insecurities and I’m trying to make songs that make people think about these important part and insecurities and maybe help them. You’re great, you’ve helped me a lot. Keep the good work!!
Don't try to make an album 'for the people'... everyone is different, make an album for yourself - to help yourself, make it really unique & personal (expose your own insecurities if that's the topic you want to explore) and hopefully it will be real enough to connect with others.
The power of 1 is so real!!!

Passion, Improvement and Experience. PIE, PIE, PIE!!!
Thanks for your advice. I'm 45..working on making my musical dreams come true. I like the pie acronym.
Content. Content. Content. Everybody talks about content but never gives good solid examples of what "great content" is. I subscribed to your channel because I only subscribe to people that actually seem like they are legit. Ari Herstand. Rick Barker. Now you. Give me examples of GREAT content.
Hey dude, you are right, I need to go more into detail on this so yesterday I made a top 10 video on creative content ideas. It should be released today or tomorrow. Big thanks dude, very helpful and hopefully it helps but let me know what you think.
:)

lol what?
Watch this video 4 years later and I must say it's content is still valuable and relevant... Thanks mate!
Just found you today! Watched the video where you helped an unknown bass player set up an instagram account (very interesting!)......searched your name and voila...stumbled on a treasure trove of videos (of course I've just subscribed to your channel). I'm a social media challenged singer/songwriter/musician that decided to start getting more involved in social media, even though it seems like I'm a fish swimming upstream! I made a commitment to myself this year and started a series on youtube called "Behind the Song" where I post a song once month and give a brief backstory on the genesis/inspiration for the song. I also have an FB artist page. Just wanted to say thank you for your education and inspiration. I look forward to watching your videos and starting/growing a fanbase.
I love tip 10, absolutely a game changer! There is often some really long hours in the studio, (and on top of being a great way to extend your fan base), having someone there to bounce ideas off of, and to keep you company, can really make the whole experience much more enjoyable. Connections are one of the most MOST important things in the beginning, and I have been seriously slacking on getting my name out there or having a following, however I’m spending all my time trying to improve myself as a musician/producer, and I’m trying to work with as many people as possible. And that means as soon as I find out that someone writes their own music, I’m asking them about it, and offering my production services for FREE! I learn so much every time I work with a new person, and I really enjoy the process. I have very few fans, but I have a great network of musicians and I try my best to maintain those connections! I just recently discovered this channel, and you’re doing amazing work Damien! 🔥🤑 love how much discussion your videos generate, this is some of the best advice anywhere on RUclips in my opinion!
Really love the "PIE" explanation thank you!
These videos have been so helpful. I’ve been in the music industry for 20 years, released a solo album 10 yrs ago and have been a side person in bands ever since. Last year I quit all that, took a good look at my life, made some major changes, and just finished my second solo album. Release date TBD but I will be sending you an email as soon as it’s ready. Thanks for all these great tips. It feels weird feeling like I’m starting from scratch again but finding your channel is making it all feel a bit easier. Or at least not so lonely :) Thanks!
Wow... Your enthusiasm is infectious!
Thank you so much
New viewer, but dude, you are an absolute treasure trove of information! My band is on Facebook, Clash of the Tritones, and we're already applying these tips to grow our base, or brand, and our band!

Edit: actually, I'll start now, I need to build my audience b4! 🤦♂️
love your content my biggest problem i have been facing is how to get more plays on my spotify...you have been able to help me understand how to build my social media but now im lost on how to get plays on spotify
I literally just found your page and have now watched 2 vids. This is great info!
I grew complacent for many years as I grew up musically being held up on a pedestal in a small town, and when I left my small town my idea of what I thought was good was shattered. I grew depressed for a few years, eventually taking a 2 year community program in music. I learned how to combine my natural talent for music with hard work and drive. I got radically better, but the things I created fell on few ears. The ears I got had great praise, but my audience was limited to close friends and family so I had trouble believing any of it. I spiraled in and out of depression for many years, and I'm still in that loop- but your ideas here are helping me so much to understand where I need to put my focus if I really want to get to where I want to be!
Thank you. I am breaking the resistance and starting my channel. I know it will take time to see results but I am so optimistic to create content and help so many people.
Friends, family, fools and fanatics will always tell you your content is great.
It is so hard to build a fan base from scratch. This is great advice, just to add one more thought to this video, consistency. That is what I have been doing with my music. 🎧🎧🎧
I see what you tryin to do

Thank you bro. You get it. I don't even want money. I just want to make some music that people enjoy. Nothing makes me more happy than when people here my stuff and enjoy it a lot.
Damian, thanks for your consistently great advice! Appreciate your passion and dedication to your audience. So very helpful.
Thank you so much, I'm loving the journey and trying to figure out how I can make a lot more content.. I feel like I can do better :)
Great video as always Damo! Hugely informative and helpful for Myriad :D

Hi Damian! I'm a rapper from New Jersey. I had a decent run in my local area about 7 years ago. I won several performance contests, opened for national acts, and was arguably the most popular rapper in my area. Time went by and I never followed up adequately. I went to college, focused on my studies and let all the hype behind me fade. I attempted a few comebacks but never put the right plan behind things. Always just recorded music and released it on social media with little intention, and obviously received little buzz if any. This year will be different. I'm planning on releasing a 5-track EP this October. I think that gives me adequate time to produce the project as well as build hype for it in my area. I appreciate the content you make because it's giving me the direction I need to stay on track for success. I'll be following your channel and have already recommended it to other local acts with similar struggles. Much Love! - Vintage.
thanks for the tips. i really enjoy your content. now it's time to get to work

I'm still in the finding my niche stage. Hope I hit the nail on the head and can get laser-focused on it as I find it
Thanks Damian, super concise and really helpful as ever. Still struggle to figure out what content is going to bring value to my audience as an artist. If your an educator like yourself the value is clear in creating advice videos such as this but as an artist I think you often have to create the value/demand. Besides providing great music in various formats what can artists offer? Be curious to hear the communities thoughts.
Hi Joe, thanks very much. Yeah I defo agree that you will need to experiment but I also think as a musician/creative the key is in delivering the thing you do more regularly.. If you are a songwriter how can you put out more songs... Imagine if you made a video for every song you wrote instead of just the ones you want to release. And had a RUclips playlist for your creativity.
Think of it if you are the consumer and your favourite artist.. you dont want to see a bunch of adverts but you want a peak into their life, and who they are and what they stand for but the biggest thing you want is them... and their music regularly.
I might do a video on this as I think we could have some creative ideas :)
Thanks for your swift reply. Yeah definitely something I've seen in some of my favourite acts (Vulfpeck & Brockhampton definitely invite you into there world in a beautiful way.) Its something I'm experimenting with and its definitely been more successful than the explainers/tutorial/vlog stuff I've tried in the past but I think the key phrase is 'favourite artist'. We're interested in the creative process of artists we already like. Seems more like a tool for maintaining a fanbase than building one.
There's definitely some creative solutions for this and I imagine they are all unique to every artist. Just need to figure it out.
Thanks again.
This is outstanding information. I really appreciate you taking time to help me. ☺️
I'm making rap songs, and now I'm in the process of saving up some money to have the mixed and mastered, and to lease the instrumentals which are about 30 a piece. After I have my favorite five songs mastered, and the leases paid for I'm planning to really promote stuff, and get grinding. I know you're talking about bands and live music a lot, but I feel like everything you said applies to what I'm trying to do, I appreciate the information and I subscribed. I'll have to check out your other stuff, soak in the knowledge. Thanks man
Thank you for this information!! I’m excited to try it out!
I want to grow my audience and also get advice as far as image and area and also how to do a lot of these things with covid into play! Your chanel is really good and has taught me a lot.
Love this video! Great tips. I will definitely be rewatching this 10 million times!
Thanks Michael, that will defo be appreciated :) Make sure you are experimenting with your content to see what works
Damo, I’ve watched a lot of “build your music business” videos on RUclips. I just found your channel, and I’m blown away with the amount of valuable content you’re able to fit into each video 🙌🏻
Keep up the phenomenal work, my dude!
Number 2 is super true! I am in a black metal group awhile now and they've listened to my stuff. I made alot of new friends helping me mixing, playing guest parts, making splits and now i even have a contract with a major label!
Thanks dude, congrats dude that is amazing!

Thank you so much your advice! It is so inspiring. Liked and subscribed your call to action. Your videos are reaching bluegrass musicians all the way in Asheville, North Carolina :)
There's a ton of good advice in here and just picking one thing from Damian's top 10 tips to do today and doing it right now is better than watching a billion youtube videos.
+JP Sampson Music thank you so so much I really appreciate this it’s really made me smile 😊😊❤️
@@DamianKeyes - a pleasure. great video. best bit "if you're in music to make money you're a f*cking idiot" ..... so true.
Thankies so much for this Chanel. I did really well as dyi Musician in San Diego about five years ago and we were implementing a lot of the things you talk about here. Right up until the band I was in just quite. This was really hard for me after putting in all that work just to go back to square one. Fast forward, I am now in my third semester of the Musicians Institute as a Vocal Performance Major. I have a new band that I will definitely send to see your videos. We are currently working on new material and already planning out many of these strategies. We have a show coming up in April which is a 20 minute set for suicide prevention awareness. We are a progressive metal band and the show is a rap metal battle. I have started from 0 before and this time feels better, despite the five year recovery. Anyway, you are awesomeness, and I so appreciate you. Thanks again, I’m a fan of you. 😉
Great little video. A friend in my told about your book 'The Rule Breakers guide' it arrived yesterday I'm half way through it now. Some great tips. I'm already telling people about it!!
Great video Damo! I love tip no 6, so true! Btw: you'd make a great christmas elf 😉
HA HA Thank you.. tbh I do love xmas and if I wasn't a musician i'd happily go for a job interview as the xmas elf! It would be so cool hanging around Santa all day!
Hi, fan of your videos, this one especially...it gives me breath...of course, il you got few minutes, please go and see my channel for a global advice ! Thanx
Thank you very much for this info! I'm not a musician, but I'm still a creator. A couple of months ago, I started developing my own animated short. I'm super grateful that your tips are still applicable for the type of content I'm making.
I love what you said about P.I.E. One reason I started producing my own short is because I love stories and I want tell my own instead of always watching others' stories. Since my current project is the first time I've tried to make an animated short, there are a lot of skills that I have to learn and improve upon. Once I finish my project, I'll certainly be coming back to your channel for ways to promote my work. Thanks again for these tips.
Salute from San Antonio, Texas 😎🤠
Damian hearing a weird scream at the end of the video was like "wtf was that?" LOL
Love your content man. Thank u so much for sharing such valuable stuff.
I appreciate it :)
Greetings from Brazil!
Just stumbled on to your Chanel... Awesome advice, been saying pretty much the same ideas for years now. You never know who is listening.
I'm in the process of recording demos. I'm handling everything and then going to record them at a studio with a friend on drums but man is your content a God send.
“The power of one”.. I got my first paid gig out of my first open-mic.. only 5 people showed up to that gig -including 3 friends. The other 2 people were tourists from the Netherlands who offered me places to play and stay if I could get out there. I was young and decided against going out there but the experience was the same!
Great video! Rarely do I find a video with such relevant & concise info. Rarely do I like, subscribe & comment in one go. RUclips was made for this, Thanks.
👏👏👏 Sound advice! Reallllly appreciate it, Damian.
Subbed because every video I've seen of yours so far has helped!
Thank you so much :) If i can help with anything hit me up!

Thank you Damian. As I’m just starting out, This is very encouraging and eye opening.

This is absolutely great. Thank you bro!!!
Man, this is the first video from you that I have seen, but I'm subbed. I've been doing music for 15 years, and there's a lot of stuff in here I did not know. I appreciate this!
you 'drunk' too much tea today...and feeling a bit fruity! Love it
Damian you just made my 2 years in the music industry worthwhile, i immediately subscribed to your channel after seeing 10 cheats to enter the industry. The Nigerian Music market is hard but u really made me have a feel of destiny whenever i watched. ive followed u everywhere rn and i just added u on my instagram bio. Thank you so much dude. That's made my day and if I can help with anything just hit me up! :)
Absolutely great content Damian. Thanks so much for these tips and the information, very much appreciated!
Well, I found getting reacquainted with my skateboarding roots a few years ago has been a big help in building a no strings attached community. After my shroom trip, I've come to the realization that we are all one. I agree an opportunity or insight can be found anywhere. As for building my fanbase, performing and creating vlog would help lol!
This is the 4th video of yours that I am watching one after another after discovering your channel for the first time. And will continue. Great content, great advice, thank you!
Your vocal variety in this video was awesome!
Cool! As Always! Good job Damian!
Absolutely love your message, thank you for this great list of tips! I have already subscribed from your video on making money from music in 2020 but wanted to comment here too.

By the way... For anyone who doesn't know, I'm a bass player from Suffolk, and I'm starting my professional music career. I've been in the music industry for years, but I'm getting serious. Just wanted to share that with this community. Damian, thank you for all of your amazing advice, keep an eye on me to see my evolution, from zero to hero thanks to your help. To everyone, I need to build an audience, so go to my FB to look for content, and I'm going to start a RUclips channel so you can also follow me in this journey.

Nice one man! This video totally spoke to where I'm at, will def make use of the insights. You have another subscriber! 😁
Thank you for the video Damian! Real quality stuff
PIE is exactly what I play for. SUBBED, man. You seem to know me very well. It's not about winning for me, though. It's more to keep me from blowing my head off.
Thank You💪💯
Awesome, this is what we need to do in our band.
Greetings from Chile!
Hi Damian, as someone with very little support I have found it really useful to watch your videos for a number of months, you are bringing great value to people. However, I have a problem I dont know if you have addressed it before, although I enjoy performing live and people seem to enjoy watching me, I always seem to suffer terrible insomnia afterwards most times, I dont really seem to get used to it and I know this is one reason musicians turn to drink and drugs and afterparties which I have not really done yet but I cant think of a solution that works that would help me get out and perform more as I would like to and need to
Wow this is big dude. I’d love to chat about this, email me if you get a chance damo@dkmanagement.co.uk
Thank you for making these kinds of videos :)
Excellent content, Damian. I appreciate your contribution to the RUclips community and the those of us who are looking to become thoughtful contributors. Continued success!
Great video! Great channel! In my first serious band and the content on this channel has given us so much value. I feel so much better about positioning ourselves and growing our audience. Thanks so much!
Thank you Damian, I really needed this!
Fulfilling the other part to the hyper call to action. Your videos are super informative and I'm going to watch at least a couple more before I start working on my own music for the day. Thanks for the helpful content!

This is amazing advice! I am a new singer/song writer starting out and learning how to grow my fan base across my social media platforms. You’re videos have been very informative and motivational for me!
Useful! 🙏🏻
Made a lot sense, much I needed reminding of too. Thanks.
Love your “PIE” logic!💎💎✨

Excellent! Thank you!
I just discovered your channel yesterday. I fricking love your videos!
I've just discovered your channel and I love your content! Thank you for sharing :)
Airship finds every video you do so motivational and helpful!
Hey Damian, thanks for your really interesting videos! :) They are definitely valuable and helpful for understanding more about how to reach people with our music :) Even if it's just a hobby project, it's always great to get more knowledge and get deeper into the topic of sharing content more effectively. The "PIE" thing is really great, that's basically the reason for this project, to gain experience also for other projects, to improve and of course for the passion for making music :) It's mainly quite crazy and trashy party music, but it's fun and the songs are especially about spending a great time together, so the goal is to really involve people and let them feel to be a part of it :) Your tips are going to help to improve getting some more audience and let new people discover it, so thanks a lot :)
Just subscribed, best greetings from Germany from Alpaka Rodeo! :)
