    It sounds very much like Elliot Hulse recent situation. He spent years building his business and youtube, but knew he wasn't living his personal truth. He was at the physical and emotional breakpoint when he stepped back to care for himself and focus on family. He dropped off the radar for a while, he did what few men would do.
    He spent a decade nonstop working and he risked everything to step away from it. Elliot had many dark nights but he faced his fears and moved towards healing. He is my hero for that reason, he shifted the paradigm for our generation. We have been told just mindlessly work and build, but actualizing it challenging our fears everyday.
    I'm sitting in the middle of this in my career. I rebuilt my life after many hardships as a teen and young adult. I worked so hard in the last decade to move up from a dog bather to a groomer and eventually a salon manager. I've built great customers and I love 99% of my coworkers. I should be 'living the dream', but its living the lie in my mind. The company I worked at was sold, and the new company doesn't line up to my values. I've hit as far as I can go in this corporate environment, I need out while I have my morals and values.
    Asking for $150k from the bank is so damn scary. I've done the research, I know my ability and my market. At the end of the day I need to know that my life meant something. The only way that I can help my community is to break out of the mold. I'm in the center of the transition, and I'm frightened as hell, I'm letting go of my security.
    Meanwhile, my heart breaks watching teens fighting with police in a nearby community. The heroin epidemic is horrible in my neighborhood because people don't know how to process their emotional issues. We need some strong young people to reset the goals globally. Its one soul at a time, we start with yourself, once we are functional we reach out to friends and our workplace, hopefully next the community, eventually the world.
    Keep your published RUclips videos up while you take time to care for yourself. The videos serve as great support on my rough days. You bring a lot of insight into life, and I'm better because of what you have shared. Maybe consider an unedited raw video diary day by day as you work through things, the insight might help others. We see people at their best, glossy and perfect, however we need to see someone spiritually puking. Our generation needs to see young people waking up. Transformation hurts, but we are brave MF'ers, and we have a world to fix.

      @arikaGME 8 лет назад +1

      Sorry Mr Shitmandood, I did write paragraphs with double spaces, however youtube disallowed my text to break properly. KJ EB, it was too long to read, but yet you invested the time to snark, go you.
      PurpleJay, I'm not actually as strong as it seems, I just try to use my morals and righteous anger to push me along. I have had to learn how to live with rejection and not being liked by others. I also know that on many ways I've been really blessed, so I owe it to society to pay it forward.
      Leo, I'm about to make the scariest transition in my life. Its going to be some serious grinding to get it done. I failed really hard in my life...TRUST ME!!! But it kills me more if I die wondering "what if". Life is too damn short. Every time I reach one set of goals I restart a new dream.

      Well, you fixed it, so I took the time to read it. Looks like you're a bit depressed. Have you sent out your resumes yet for new work? I'd start with that and just grin and bare the job until you have some other means of generating income or new employment. What else can you do?

    I so felt you'd advance into something richer! You've achieved so much with income and things. Last month I experienced another level in my meditation. After, I remembered, every deep teacher I've read or heard on Zen and other forms of intense meditation devotees says you must achieve all that ego-stuff, before you seek enlightenment. Then, you'd see the truth of it and you will happily let it go. I would so miss your guidance man. For me, I hit an area in meditation where I was on the edge of a vast black ocean of nothing. I was the ocean, the mind was just like a dirty membrane I was able to push past. It was a super-amazing and scary moment. Lots of bullshit in was just gone for days, I felt bad for folks not working on this. Still, confusion, anger, desires and such came back in a week. I think I know why. I've not done that ladder you mention, not fully climbed it like you have. The Ego part of me still wants to achieve stuff, but the REAL me couldn't give a fuck. If I'd stepped further into myself as that ocean I'd have died to earthly shit, and I knew this. I'll figure it out I'm sure. I get distracted and must gain control of that. Yoga, meditation work of all forms are known as something you practice but I'm 47 with no kids. I don't have much time left. I imagine I'll shed myself in my 50's and be one with that ocean and give some years of my life to nothing but meditation and mindfulness via art. I thought about you. If I was at your level of success and so young, I'd break out for a timetable like, three years. You know how to resuscitate your desires if you decide to return.

    Wow, that was real! Having the guts to speak publicly about your own problems makes it so much more authentic compared to normal self-help. Whatever you choose to do, you got my support 100%. I'm reading the Book of Not Knowing atm., and I can kind of see now that no matter what things I achieve, real peace won't come without enlightenment. I have a couple of questions about enlightenment:
    -If I do strong determination sitting + self inquiry, how long each day would you say is necessary if one is serious about being enlightened?
    -Have you taken the time to get into full lotus? There may be some tradition to it, but people say it's the most stable position for longer sits.

    • @hrdyondrej
      @hrdyondrej 8 лет назад

      +Amund D I think he said 30 minutes every day asking "who am I", "who is aware", "what are thoughts". But I could be wrong.

    • @mister_circle
      @mister_circle 8 лет назад

      +Keep Ondra Thanks; I believe Leo would say 30 minutes in order for people to get good meditation gains, but without scaring us off. Perhaps that won't do if one really wants to go all the way. He stated that he isn't enlightened yet, but perhaps he knows a lot about other people who got enlightened.

    • @MrShootman999
      @MrShootman999 8 лет назад +3

      +Amund D Hey! The fastest way to enlightenment is by practising Self-Enquiry. Wherever you are, or whatever you do, always enquire ''Who am I?'' It should not be done in a particular place or time, that is for novices. Forget about strong-determination sitting, pain and pleasure are only aspects of the mind, it will not weaken the mind. There's people who lives in India that have practised this 40-50 years with full commitment, they are still not enlightened. You must give up everything for the truth, by that I mean all your beliefs. You believe there's something to achieve, and that's the biggest obstacle. All happens by itself, the seeker does nothing. You are already enlightened, one with God. When effort is needed, effort will come. Everything is determined, because the Self goes beyond time and space. Enlightenement happens thanks for the mind, but you are not the mind. You cannot control the mind, because there are not two minds, only one. If you start worry about how long time it will take for you to become enlightened, you attention is on the mind and not the Self. You need strong commitment and perserveraince. Stop read books. The only real and perfect knowledge is Silence alone. All mental knowledge is holding you back. There's absolutely nothing to know. Forget everything and simply Be. It's not something passive. It's hard-hard work.

    • @MrShootman999
      @MrShootman999 8 лет назад

      ***** It's not some sort of mantra because the question itself has no power. What has power is when you turn your mind inwards and direct all your attention on the Self. The question is only an aid. Do this practise discrete when you're around other people. Don't let them know that your're doing this stuff. They are close-minded so that only leads to trouble.

    Even though I always think, ask questions and try answering it in my head, at the end I always go with the flow with my decisions. But that's just my lifestyle... I know how you feel about growing and expanding your knowledge. I get the feeling like there is not too much time left to absorb all the facts. Are you satisfied with your current knowledge? If I was you, I would. In fact I would be so much more satisfied with the fact that I'm sharing my wisdom to the masses. Your videos have helped a lot of people. Whatever your life goal is, you'll achieve it. You have a lot of years to learn. It's amazing how persistent are you, and keep on creating. Whenever I listen to you, I think, I really do. And my thoughts always end up here: What is life? Literally, the last sentence in my head which ends my reflections. So... Yeah... In conclusion. You are a good smart man.

      +Phantom Zephyr Ⓥ I think once you reach his level, you realize that there are levels above, and settling for what you got in the long run would limit yourself. It's not as simple as you may think, I'm not at his level, but philosophically at least I can understand his mind set. He's way more than a good smart man. It's hard to convey that in words though.Just like I can't fully convey in words the emotion of fear or hunger.

    Im 19 years old. I'm in college. I live at home. And within these next six months I have to deal with the loss of my childhood home and finding a new place to live, and adjusting to adult life without my parents to fall back on. My dad is a private attorney and he works for himself and a few years ago him and my mom decided that they were going to quit their business, sell our house, and travel the world with nothing but what they can pack on their motorcycles. they would stop taking new cases at the end of 2016 and by mid 2017 they wanted to be hitting the road on a year (or so) long trip from alaska to the tip of south america. watching some videos to try an find some way to help myself feel better about my parents leaving me and "moving away". Right now I'm just in denial. I know that my life is going to be changing so much, and I have never really experienced much change at all let alone anything near this magnitude. The house is going up on the market within the next month I suppose. It doesn't feel real yet but its just so weird to think that this time next year, my life will be completely different. Im scared, but I'm also excited and curious, I suppose.

      +Christian Harborg He has a large amount of content that can still be accessed and used. His channel will still have tons of content. The only thing that would change is that you'll have a more palpable sense that the videos were recorded in the past. You will likely feel as though you lost someone out of you life that you know personally. With the nature of his videos, it is easy to do. He is human, and he has to do what he believes is the right thing.

      +The Diamond Net Well there is an iterative process. Some things have to be repeated and reinforced. There are others that I believe have been on longer than he has & they repeat different parts. I suppose over time, the RUclips content starts to delivery diminishing returns, where even a weekly session might be too soon. That said, it's still going to take me a few years to get through all the books & not quite sure how long for the Life Purpose course. Also, trying to work through some psychological issues right now & require more meditation in my free time.

    Leo,
    It can be difficult to make a change when you are afraid of the outcome. Fear makes us extremely uncomfortable. Stephen Bardo, a retired NBA Basketball player, once said, "You have to become comfortable with being uncomfortable." I didn't know what it meant until it came to making life changes. Those moments when I was most afraid to change or to speak my mind, were the moments that I had to make the changes and speak my mind. Sometimes we have to work on who we are in order to help others. The decision you are making is a tough one, but you have to stay true to your authentic self and become comfortable with being uncomfortable. I promise you that any decision you make will benefit you in the long run.

I think that the analogy to Gandy is intersting, because he was a person who combined deep spirtual work with social practice. My opinion is that one day your true chalange will be combining family life with your ambitious project of Actualized.org(=Public speaking and being a coach). Maybe this explains part of the emptiness you are feeling right know. Gandi`s wife as an analogy took a great part of his life long journey. Leo!!!!!! Nooooo!!!! You cannot disappear on us. I checked the site 5 times yesterday for your video and twice today. Hope you feel better but you have to stay public. My mother passed away in May and I watched your video about taking responsibility for everything that happens in your life a dozen times. It really helped me to not fall into victim mode and empowered me to take charge in a very dark time in my life. I have since moved to California from Baltimore and when I came here I watched your videos every single week since. It will completely shatter all of my heart if you vanish as my heart still aches from the passing of Wayne Dyer. These are just my thoughts but are you sure this just isn't your mind being a squirrel on crack. Haha Follow your heart. I love you! Can't believe you're talking like this but you have my support no matter how I feel. 💓

Even in Leo's wake, I have a ton to read & his Life Purpose course...it's going to take me a couple years to get through all of this, if not longer since I still work full time & as far as the videos go, I've seen every one (except for the Life Purpose, which I'm still in theory & going through the recommended books & videos).

    You have inspired me, and you got me into self-help. I want to expand my knowledge on the topic, because I too want to use it to fulfill myself, and I want to spread my knowledge to make the world a better place. But watching this video gave me some incite, and kind of opened my mind to some completely new possibilities. I learned that fulfillment is within, and the was I see it is that I want to be fulfilled now. Not way down my life. But maybe fulfillment is something that only the ones who devote themselves to it will ever find. Listening to my gut I understand why you would want to make an extreme change like that. I make small changed in my life everyday and they still can be frightening. Im only 17 and I've defiantly had one major turning point in my life, and Im so grateful for it. Im a much more positive and motivated person now. Imagining moving across the globe and changing your lifestyle %100 probably sounds crazy to most people. I feel like thats something almost no one would be willing to do, only the true heros. Death is upon us. I encourage that you make this grand leap in your life.

    I'm happy to see that even despite I haven't seen any more of your videos for a while, when I come back I see I'm still on the right track. Tomorrow comes the final decision of my actual turning point, but I feel more confident now, about following my inner wisdom despite what my familiy or friends might think. I don't know how they will take it when I announce it, but I know that it will happen no matter what. After all this is done, I'll come back to your videos when I need it, but I enjoy learning things myself. They feel more valuable, but you still test me, you show me new things that I haven't thought about and question the ones that I have. Thank you once again Leo, I wish you luck in your journey, no matter wich one will be.

    I love how encouraging the comments on this video are. In Leo's most recent videos, the change he was speaking of in this video has become very pronounced. However, most of his viewers have not been very supportive of this and it seems to me that he is deeply misunderstood by a great majority of them, at least those who comment of his videos. He is criticized and ridiculed by viewers and other youtubers claiming that he "has gone too far" and that he "has lost his mind". But I believe what is really happening is that people do not fathom the seriousness of the commitment Leo made to pursuing enlightenment and exploring the deepest levels of wisdom and understanding. Most people are so disconnected from this endeavor and, out of ignorace, deny the possibility of attaining such levels of understanding because it is so far beyond the narrow paradigm in which they operate. And thus, when they hear Leo talk about the things that he does, to them, he seems like a delusional person that has gone off the deep end. But I argue that nothing is further from the truth. It is those people who criticize Leo the ones who are disconnected from the Truth. I argue that those who say he has "gone too far" in fact have not bothered to take the first step in the direction of serious and genuine self-mastery.

    "2 steps forward and 3 steps backward but then after couple of years 10 steps forward " that's really a good advice Leo . Right now I'm facing this challenge , on one side there's my ego who is moving towards success and on the other side there a part of me wich wants growth and mastery. The point is that I'm about to get a promotion at work , wich is successful for my ego but then a part of me is screaming to go in a bigger city without promotion and learn more and more and become my best-self . Remember ... Growth is not in comfort !!!

    Hey Leo, Happy 2016 and a huge thank you. I have been following your videos for almost a year now and as with most of your followers your words inspire me and help me stay focused in a world where it is so too easy to slip back to old ways of being. I had a full and bold change about 6 years ago when I closed my business, left my husband for a years separation (happily we are now back together though) and enrolled onto a counselling course that totally changed my life.
    This was massive for me a girl from a dysfunctional family and at times abusive upbringing. I did not get good grades at school or college and did not even know I could be academic. However as in a lot of your videos about our inate potential being there for the taking (totally spot on), I unleashed mine, worked my my butt off and excelled obtaining both a professional diploma in counsellng and first class honors degree within my field also.
    I worked for a few months as a couple counsellor, and then a year as a student counsellor at the college where I trained but have left now to be home with my children, run our family roofing business and try other things. Despite all that I have learned it is still, at times hard fully embodying my new found adult wisdom and knowledge when all my family have not gone on the same kind of journey and try pulling me back to their way of thinking and a younger way of being in the world.
    Your videos have helped my inner adult wisdom stay firmly in place and when I step off my path or have a wobble you have been the source I go to for frank honesty and humbling discussions to help me reignite my inner fire, detemination and drive to live a wonderful life, and most importantly to me, remember my wish to pass this onto my children (ages 8 and 4) as they grow and develop. Success for me is this. Not allowing generations of family abuse and lack of awareness to go any further. it stops with me. Everything else I achieve is a huge bonus.
    Now what came up for me with this thought provoking video, as you talked about the cross roads you are nearing is that there were only three options for you; continuing with actualized.org or going off to master your inner psychology; or trying to do both.
    I am curious about you having a partner in crime to muse your wisdom with or children to pass your wisdom onto. Or a charity that helps make a difference or bring smiles to those who need it especially in a world that from my view is so deeply entrenched with the ways of the system that it sadly feels to me almost impossible for things to be any different. the system has worked a treat in keeping humanity locked in ignorance so we do not take action and stand against the unethical and damn right wrongness and inequality of the world. Those with the power keep the power can we ever make a dent in that?
    I know your views too on the system etc and I loved your video 30 ways society f***ks you in the A** chimpery perfect words. Does this impact on your decision as to whether you contiune with actualised.org? Does it feel too steep a vmountain to climb to really make a difference in the world under these circumstances?
    Finally I get being torn with wanting to be successful but not wanting to lose sight of what you truly value and the inner integrity you posess. That is a tough one and I will be intrigued to wait and see where things go for you and what you decide. In the mean timeI will be as always enjoying your videos.
    Thank you again
    Kind regards
    C

    Leo I really really felt this one. I wish the best of luck with this major decision. I do have this weird longing for something really detrimental to happen to me where it makes these shifts permanent. Because I'm kind of sick and tired of getting distracted by the drama and dumb stuff in school and in the environment. I feel that because I haven't had too many real major life experiences yet, I have no perspective of what to actually do. I want to believe that I do but I don't. I don't know whether or not I'm on the right path or I'm jumping the gun and cutting corners or something. But there is something nagging at me and I've only noticed it during 2015... I hope that if you do choose to go all out, that you somehow still manage to update us as you pursue your journey :)

    Hey man, it seems like I stumbled across this video at the right time and the universe has guided me here. I am facing a similar dilemma here. I went from a successful student at a top business school in Canada who is destined for career success, to contemplating becoming a Buddhist monk to attain Enlightenment. I think Spirituality is the natural extension at the peak of self-development. You first spend time developing the ego before transcending the ego. Talk about radical changes huh?
    I've deferred school and donated a lot of my possessions. Right now I've pretty much let go of almost everything in my old life, so that Enlightenment is my only purpose. When I took the leap, it was the scariest thing ever because I felt like someone suddenly pulled the plug on my illusions. But follow your calling man, speaking from experience, the sacrifices were nothing compared to the deep peace, satisfaction and meaning that comes with Spiritual Awakening. After all, this is the ultimate purpose of life.
    Peace and love brother!

    1. I think I am in a similar situation. My situation is probably not as intense because I don't have as much to lose as you do. I am 23 and graduated college less than a year ago.
    At some point I realized that pretty much everything I do is futile and that all the things that I thought matter so much actually do not. All the contexts I have are all illusions and my idea of reality is actually an escape from reality.
    I used to be into entrepreneurship and self-help. I don't have that urge to be special and superior anymore. It's like a part of me just died. But then at times, I think about all the success and achievement I could have if kept going in that road. I think this is what Jed Mckenna calls "spiritual dissonance." it's like being split into two and it can be really painful.
    But then Alan Watts said "you don't have to let go because you're not holding on to anything." I think that the control I (as the ego) have over my life is actually an illusion because I am an illusion. So trying to solve the dilemma actually creates the dilemma because you trying implies that you are real and in control.
    2. Also I think that at this point, me sharing this comment or looking for videos and books related to the subject is actually an attempt to deny what I see, to slow down the process or to get reassurance from other people. I guess learning that there is no self is such an unbearable fact to the ego.
    3. I don't know what the future holds. I might quit my fucking job and just wander around. I might get too scared of losing myself, forget about all this 'enlightenment' nonsense and go back to living a 'normal' life. I really don't know. What I know is that I will not be able to unlearn what I have learned. I won't be able to look at everything the way I used to in my 'normal' years.
    Anyways .. let me know what you think.
    Cheers!

    Hey Leo
    I felt happy watching this video. It was encouraging. I believe that you are the best cause as far as I have read and heard things about self actualization - no one has kept it simple and easy to adapt like you have done it for us. Most of your videos are like as if I am hearing my inner voice speak load. Well thank you.
    Most important thing I wanted to share with you is some information. I have gone through many philosophers and read different books on self help but there is this one book I strongly recommend to you and all the people. It has been very difficult to adapt to its teachings however it definitely is the path to enlightenment and as you call it Self Transcendence. It is the key. No matter how many diversions I have had.. Of which your videos too were one of the many... I still have heard my heart call out to this book as the final point of all problems and to their solutions.
    I'm not religious about the belief cause I am more spiritual. I just believe if not today when you read my comment.. Someday on your path you definitely will remember me for this suggestion.
    It is the oldest of books - written by Chinmaya Mission Swami Chinmayananda called the Bhagavad Gita.
    Pls read and I am sure you will find the answers you are seeking. Mahatma Gandhi too believed in the Gita.
    My 2nd suggestion to you is to meet if possible Swami Paripoornanda as he is the best.
    Hope you do consider giving it a try. All the best to you in all that you do..
    Regards,
    Vishnu Shreyas Yuvarajan

    _I had a fever so I was contemplating my death_ and I just bursted out laughing. Laughing because in fact it doesn't sound stupid at all. Thinking _in fifty years I might be in similar possition and not get well_ and it's like wake-up call.
    However you decide, Leo I wish you the best. You literally changed the direction of my life. With self-actualization I started very recently but I know that this is the way I want to go. This is the way I _need_ to go. Persuing higher values than getting good food, having sex and getting drunk, because I wasn't born to live like an animal. Like most people are. The more I see your mind working the more I see the value in knowing who you are. Because I don't know who I am. Thanks to you I have the determination to find out.

    Alan Watts was saying that one of the main differences between a Buddhist monk and a member of the clergy is that if you have second thoughts as a Buddhist, you can resign without the baggage if you were to do the same as a Christian. So whatever you choose, and if you choose to 'burn the boats' don't forget that the road you travel will have another fork in it.
