I have massively appreciated your series of mods on the 10. Being an older owner who still has a bit of teenage in me, my 10 is the best thing I have ever bought. And yes at 68 I still enjoy getting the wheel up! Good for you and good for Yamaha.
Hey Big Barry how are you these days at 74? What are you riding now? Still the 10? @ 70 and on a Hayabusa I'm thinking of swapping over to a 10 SP for the riding position. ;
Still have the same old MT10 now in it's 8th year. All I have had to do is put a slightly harder coil on the rear as my wife is almost permanently on the back and the original spring was getting tired. I did have a brush with a car which meant a frame change but it still goes like the original. I thought of changing for a new SP but can't bring myself to spend the money. All good with us, still able to get the legs over!@@bailey9r
Bought a brand new 2014 FZ-09 6 years ago after a dealership demo ride. Loved the motor, but fortunately having ridden it,I knew what I was getting into with the bike’s shortcomings before I bought it. Immediately added a fly screen to get the wind off my chest, and being 6’ tall, added taller/flatter saddle from Seat Concepts. After break in, I started the process and addressed the faults one by one; Penske rear shock, fork revalve and heavier springs, dealer reflash to the 2015 mapping specs, K&N air filter, Power Commander, Galfer brake lines/pads, and finally for fun an Akrapović exhaust. Within the following 2 years, Yamaha addresses the throttle and suspension issues, and added a taller saddle. But my bike still sounds 10X better than stock, and is 13LBS lighter than its original weight, and 20+ LBS lighter than the 2020 model. Yeah, I spent a little more, even though I’m in the industry and got everything at 30-40% off, but I have a bike that I absolutely love, and have fun every minute I’m on it.
Great video chaps - I loved the MT10--SP when I rode it and have yet to ride the "vanilla" bike (but would love to!) - I definitely prefer the fluoro yellow/airfix-spru grey on the standard bike too.....if I were buying a naked bike tomorrow I'm afraid my Street Triple would have to give way to a Yamaha MT10 ....and I love the little trumpet.....
FZ/MT10 is my dream bike... My goal is to buy one before the end of this year. I just started riding seriously a little over a year and a half ago, before that I rode my dad's 650 Vstar here and there, nothing serious on that bike for sure. I found a 2008 Ninja 250 for $1000 one day and scooped it up, started throwing myself around corners, and of course watching Twist of the Wrist a few times lol! I had that bike for maybe 3 months before I sold it for 1800, the day after I sold it I found a 2003 Suzuki Katana for $1300. Bought it immediately. Rode it for another 4 to 5 months until I was ready for more power and less weight. I sold that bike for $2200. Again, the very next day, I found an ad that had JUST been posted for a 2002 Ninja ZX6R J3, with only 4200 miles on it. I went to check it out, it was immaculate. Fell in love instantly. It looked like it had just come off the showroom floor it was so clean. An older gentleman in his 50s had bought it and rode it every other Sunday, you couldn't ask for a better find! Managed to snag that puppy for just $2600! That was over 6 months ago now. 4 months ago, Yamaha came to my town for a demo weekend. I wasn't going to let anything stop me from going to that event. I wanted to test out the new R6 and R1. The first day I showed up and went to reserve the bike I wanted to ride, the R6 and R1 were both already taken for that session. Bummer! I didn't want to ride anything else. The Yamaha rep told me I should try out the FZ09. I had never even heard of it, or naked bikes in general. Had literally no interest. Thought it was going to be like riding a Ninja 650... Boy was I wrong! I was literally STUNNED by the amount of low end power that bike had. As we rounded the first corner it felt like the bike wanted to throw me down into the pavement. I couldn't believe just how nimble the bike was until then. Needless to say, by the time we got back, I had no interest in the R6 or R1 any longer, I went straight for the FZ10 for the next ride.. The rest, is history!
How did you find the step up? I'm 27, riding an MT-125 until I can afford to do direct access. Really want an MT09 but various people have advised me to go for something around 650cc ish before stepping up to a 900.
I hate having double headlights, when the headlight only lights on one side. I would rather have a single light in the middle if its going to be like that. No need to have two headlights if the low beam and high beam are on the sides. I like the light shinning equal on each side.
1 more year to go I hope to find a decent priced second hand MT-10 SP. For now my MT-07 is doing well and still loads to explore with it like trackdays and mountain roads.
Hi BJ, Thank you for all the videos about the MT-10. I was so curious about MT-10SP after I heve been ridden a basic version and I can honestly say, that you are completely right. I dont know why, but basic model was for me much better even without any upgrades. Ive tried both of them and basic MT-10 is a winner. The suspension on SP is softer even in a Hard setup. Maybe after couple of hours of settings could be better, but Im speaking about basic settings from a shop. Good luck and dont be sad after you have lost your companion :-)
a2 setting on sp is to hard for uk roads , are you sure you were in the wright setting as dash takes a bit of time to get used to, i found there wasnt enough give when on cut up roads at speed in a2 mode , turn on the sus settings and you can set it up playing with dash ,dont even get your hands dirty, enjoy mt10 cos its good sp or not
adrian tompson yeah mate, I've tried all settings available. My feeling was still squishy under the pressure. KYBC on basic model was fantastic all the time.
You're selling me another Yamaha. Dunno how I can wangle you a commission, though. Please mention the seat height with regard to short arse's. Convincing my girlfriend she can get her feet down on one would go a long way towards me getting one. Hmmm, she's throttle happy, as you were. Looking forward to the next blog, cheers.
Every bike Yamaha makes in this naked bike range has its own unique feel, sound, and intoxicating emotion. MT-07 is a class leader, easily. It makes so much torque and sounds so good. MT-09 is the sort of triple that sends tingles down one's spine and it performs sometimes better than stuff 100cc bigger than it. MT-10 has a unique i-4 engine that just does things uniquely and differently than the traditional flat-plane crank i-4. Although I wish fuel efficiency wasn't so poor for the class. There's something to like about all three of these, so much so, one cannot prefer one over another.
After owning the mt10 and now got the mt10sp. I can personally say the mt10sp suspension is 100% better. If your a big guy go with the sp it's more suited to a heaver rider. Handling is alot better due to the ai suspension. The amount of settings, adjustments on the dash is amazing. You can find mt10sp for very cheap second hand so it's best to shop around. If I went back and had a choice over a 2019 mt10 plus money for mods or 2019 mt10sp. I would chose the mt10sp all day long.
So great vid and I like yours better than the sp..I’m shopping a mt09 but saw a pic of myself on it and at 6’ 0 tall and 245 lbs I may be too big for it..is the mt10 much larger than the mt09 enough to look better under larger riders?
Great video mate, shame its your final MT10 video :( There wasnt an SP when i bought mine but as trick as it is/looks im not sure i would of coughed up the extra dough anyways. Any chance you could publish the final list of mods you have done? in next months mag maybe? Ive had the suspension done (stock rear shock though) and fitted New Michelin power RS rubber and am interested in the map and auto bliper etc you put one. Cheers mate
There will be one more vlog coming over on our channel, which will include some of this fooftage you see here, and more. I will also do a list of all the mods in it for you.
Awesome video! Thoroughly enjoyed the whole video series. On a slightly different note what is that model spidi suit you have on BJ? Just after a new suit myself. Also what size you you wear as I'm 6' 2" tall and a similar build to yourself. Cheers
The sort who've set much lower and more conservative risk limits on their lives. Agreed or not, it's just the way it is. Personally I would find riding with those sort a tad boring. On the other hand, I would find riding with bonkers renegade riders also annoying.
When I started the blog vids we made the choice to get pretty much everything fitted by JHS, so folk could see how the 'pros' would do it. However, usually we fit everything ourselves, lost count of the dozens of Power Commanders, full systems, brake pads, rear-sets etc we've fitted over the years. For the sake of clarity and a whole load of time saving, that's the route we took, but the fact is everything bar the PC dyno fettling and tyre swapping, which I already included in the total cost, we (and therefore you) could and can fit yourself. So, yes, while that's a fair point given the other blogs, in theory the only labour costs is to the individual. Unless of course they're not comfortable with that and then, yes you're right, you'd have labour costs for whoever fitted what. But in this instance it's not quite pertinent.
i dont think you can put SP extras to normal MT but you can easily put the extras to SP. Mt 10 is a good bike anyway but SP even further better with the electronic suspension ( OHLINS) and r1m colours, also you guys forgot about the DASH !!!! full colour dash can you even put that to the standard :) even if you have the money :D Mt10 sp still beats it for me.
Good thinking. I am sure it will be a cracking bike! But, I have put too much time, love, and cash into my XSR900 so I have to stay faithful to her for the next few years.
Isn't B mode on the MT10 beast mode? Not getting the guy in the hat's inference to it being the tamed down mode, I know on the MT09 this is reversed and A mode stands for aggressive but I'm sure from everything I've watched and read B mode on the MT10 means beast mode and would give you a similar throttle response to A mode on the MT09.
...and for the record, my 2018 MT10J is still an awesomely, awesome bike. Nobody should fool themselves. It really doesn’t need anything, but it’s fun to put 💄 💎 & cool 😎 stuff on an all ready bike.
Oh cripes, that's a toughie! More a sportsbike person really, they're better over long distance, on track and so on. But then the MT is so much stupid fun! See, if you'd said an MT or an MV F3 800, then I'd of gone straight for the MV (after living with one for a year and a half). I'd likely lean towards the MT over the 899/959, but we're talking like one or two degrees of lean and no more, so that's not really clear cut! The problem is also, that if you went and test rode both for a couple of hours, you'd probably opt for the MT because of the instant fun-factor. Much of it will depend on what you plan to do riding-wise, if I was doing lots of long-distance stuff (and track days) then it'd be the sportsbike, if it was mostly tooling around locally and Sunday thrashes, then the MT all the way!
Fast Bikes Magazine thanks for the detailed reply, now you have peaked my interest in the MV so will have to go back over your channel to see the living with videos
Sadly we weren't doing those vids then, although there are a few vids of the bike when we stuck a new exhaust or similar on it. It did feature every month in the mag. But had it a year and a half, ran perfectly the whole time too.
Like ya mods but it would be the SP all day for me, limited / resell / electric susp / paintjob and that screen! Maybe with a link pipe thou that Akrapovic slip is is great lookin
But if you drive some trackdays, I would guess damping affects so mutch of your handling. And I don't like to much noise. I would pick the SP and may be add PC and Air filter.
Bois, we need a new version of mt10. I've had mine for almost 2 year, done over 30000kms, it still gets me hard every time, but it's time to modernize it and maybe add a few ponies :D
Over a stock MT, yes, of course it is, but dynamically this modded MT is better on both raod and track - and it's still cheaper! Doesn't look as nice mind you.
Spend the money on suspension, brakes, and training. You'll be riding quicker and better than any MT-10 rider. The increased costs involved with the 10 aren't worth it from the -09.
I'm going to have to watch the video later but I'm thinking why would you put a windshield on a naked bike, if you wanted wind protection surely you'd buy a faired bike.
I run a series of vlogs on the MT over on our own YT channel, and some of the viewers asked how one would perform, so I stuck it on. Can't stand it myself!
Fast Bikes Magazine I ride a 2017 SV650 which I've been customizing since February and a windshield is something that's never going to be added in fact I'm trying to find a way to do away with the bikini fairing.
I;m not sure half fairings would look any better really. Put a Buell Firebolt next to a Lightning and it's almost no contest, same with the SV650S next to a same-period SV650 or SF
mt10sp rider changed tyres on mine and turns a lot quicker suspention is fantastic , only thing is mt10sp is so dear your scared of damaging it, so if you bought standerd one you could be a bit more who give a shit and not look after it as much, you all no you want one of them.
I have an FZ07 and an FZ10 and previously owned an FZ09. I have owned over 40 bikes in the last 10 years and The FZ10 is my Favorite of all! vetlad1954
I have massively appreciated your series of mods on the 10. Being an older owner who still has a bit of teenage in me, my 10 is the best thing I have ever bought. And yes at 68 I still enjoy getting the wheel up! Good for you and good for Yamaha.

4:00 almost hit a mouse
Well spotted!
Dvd Dvd he mouse was so late haha
bit too big for a mouse, I reckon it's a juvenile rat
Rat
I think the rodent almost hit a bike, to be honest. No match
Who seen the mouse run across the road narrowly avoiding being splattered by the mt10 😂😂😂😂
I am and go to comments check who see it😂
SP smashes it in the looks dept & the colour dash makes it a no brainer ..
Agreed, I like the look of the SP better. Of course, it has "deep purplish blue metallic" wheels like my FZ8S, so I'm biased LOL.
i know this comment is 2 years late but you can actually buy some translucent tape or somthing and "flip" the screen to match the SP screen
😂😂😂😂 spend a couple of grand on the sp and it will be a Superbike.
The olins sells it for me no brainer.
2:56 "a tiny crack of throttle and the front just".......goes german?
Haha

I want to try the SP... I don't like the looks of the stock but SP looks sooo much better Imo
Hi mr chops! Bet it's not as fun as the 701 ;)? Got one too! But the -17 model :)
You should of got one.
Watch out for danger mouse! He tried to knock you off 😂😂
Got my category A late June, went from a MT125 to a 2013 MT09. Fantastic decision!
Nice!
How did you find the step up? I'm 27, riding an MT-125 until I can afford to do direct access. Really want an MT09 but various people have advised me to go for something around 650cc ish before stepping up to a 900.
Insouciance Incarnate
Honestly get what you want. Road experience is far more important than engine cc. I went from a Honda Cbf 125cc to BMW R1200cc.
Thoroughly enjoyed my 2hr blast on the mt10.. That engine note with an aftermarket pipe is really addictive.
I'm Commander Sheppard and i approve the presenter's 1 piece suit
Ha, wondered how long it would take for someone to twig, been months, nice one!
"Its so easy to be a dick" literally what I look for when I shop for a bike
I think the rat at 4.00 is the winner!
I hate having double headlights, when the headlight only lights on one side.
I would rather have a single light in the middle if its going to be like that.
No need to have two headlights if the low beam and high beam are on the sides.
I like the light shinning equal on each side.
Really enjoyable series with that mt10. I think Im going to miss it too
One more to go yet!
Love the N7 patch on his right army
A man of culture 👏
1 more year to go I hope to find a decent priced second hand MT-10 SP. For now my MT-07 is doing well and still loads to explore with it like trackdays and mountain roads.
It’s been 5 years, how has your journey been?
Thoroughly enjoyed the series BJ, good job 👌 Got myself 2017 MT09 a month ago, god I love that bike! MT10 might be my next one in a few years.
Cheers Hubert, one more vlog to go over on our channel yet which will include some of this stuff we did with Bike World.
Cheers!
4:01… it was at this moment the mouse knew he F¥£Ed up
Champion. Just what the Doctor ordered. Grand finale, thank you.
One more blog to go over on our YT channel yet, including some of what you've seen here, will be LONG episode!
Can’t wait to test ride both the standard 2022 model and SP version when they eventually arrive on our shores.....! Still waiiiiitiing
Can I buy a SP overseas & ship it to the stat,es ? They only offer generic that I won’t put my $$$ on .
Bring the damn SP to the states 🇺🇸
2HELNBAK dang it please do. I will trade my MT10 for it.
How much does that windscreen help with wind? It actually looks really food with the taller screen
love the Mass Effect badge
Every bike Yamaha makes in this naked bike range has its own unique feel, sound, and intoxicating emotion. MT-07 is a class leader, easily. It makes so much torque and sounds so good. Well worth watching just bought a 2019 mt10 like the screen on yours where can I get one please. Thanks keep rolling.
Thanks, not sure where the screen came from, sorry!
As an american that has the Fz/mt 10 this gives me hope. Throw money at something and it will be good.
Also fantastic video!
or buy a tuono and ride it as is and be killin it the whole time
Cheers!
I'm curious about those zig zag lines on your roads. I'm from the USA 🇺🇸 so if you can explain it to me I would greatly appreciate it.
Hey, that's to show when approaching a pedestrian crossing. No parking at any time.
Does my MT10 SP really like me? Or is it planning to kill me?
After owning the mt10 and now got the mt10sp. I can personally say the mt10sp suspension is 100% better.

If I went back and had a choice over a 2019 mt10 plus money for mods or 2019 mt10sp. I would chose the mt10sp all day long.
I have just mounted bridgestone S21 and it was an huge improvement on the feeling on my MT10
Nice! Good tyre that.
Wait, Johnny didn't give his opinion about the suspension. :(
What is the Difference in Price for the Yamaha MT-10 and the SP version because I cant find the SP price online
Do you know why the (SP) is not available in the US?
2:20 gets me everytime 😂😂😂 YEE-HEEHEE you know he had fun for sure lmao
So great vid and I like yours better than the sp..I’m shopping a mt09 but saw a pic of myself on it and at 6’ 0 tall and 245 lbs I may be too big for it..is the mt10 much larger than the mt09 enough to look better under larger riders?

That was a lucky field mouse @ 4:00
So upgrading from my gixxer 155cc, which one should I go for?
Awesome video! Thoroughly enjoyed the whole video series. On a slightly different note what is that model spidi suit you have on BJ? Just after a new suit myself. Also what size you you wear as I'm 6' 2" tall and a similar build to yourself. Cheers
B mode is friendly mode on the mt10???🤔
Modes swapped around for 2017, confused me too at first!
Fast Bikes Magazine that is confusing 😀
Mine is 17model and B mode is track mode very sensitive and crazy response, little dangerous if you are not expecting it 🤔🤣
I can't imagine being the sort of rider that doesn't want loads of power.
Depends on experience and what you want from biking we guess. Jonny is a solid rider, just not a real quick one, though he's had his moments!
Anyone who isn't a kid?
The sort who've set much lower and more conservative risk limits on their lives. Agreed or not, it's just the way it is. Personally I would find riding with those sort a tad boring. On the other hand, I would find riding with bonkers renegade riders also annoying.
But how much did you save by JHS doing labour for free?
When I started the blog vids we made the choice to get pretty much everything fitted by JHS, so folk could see how the 'pros' would do it. I want one so bad 😍 I'll stick with my 07 for another year
Is that a full exhaust or slip on ? M4 's are great from what I hear.
Slip-on, but with a y-piece that does away with the cat.
Brilliant what you did with the exhaust.
Good video. I like the mods on your bike. I think I would want an ecu reflash instead of the power commander
5:40 - homie rocking old school etnies
My G 💪🏼
Parts list? :D
What wind sceen is that
The SP has a more classy, upper class look to it. Which is the bread and butter of Ducati Sales.
i dont think you can put SP extras to normal MT but you can easily put the extras to SP. Mt 10 is a good bike anyway but SP even further better with the electronic suspension ( OHLINS) and r1m colours, also you guys forgot about the DASH !!!! full colour dash can you even put that to the standard :) even if you have the money :D Mt10 sp still beats it for me.
I'll ask as well....parts list?...a lot of noise was made about the awesome parts....what are they...?
You can find that out by watching the blogs over on our YT channel, or wait for the final one to be posted where I'll list the lot.
ive said it, and ill say it again, XSR1000, make it happen !
Good thinking. I am sure it will be a cracking bike!
But, I have put too much time, love, and cash into my XSR900 so I have to stay faithful to her for the next few years.
Agreed. XDiavel needs competition. Just wish Yamaha could get as good designers as they have architects.
although a new -retro 1000cc 160hp doesnt make sense,(even the xsr900 is insane) i really want to see it !!! As well as Tracer1000.
Why don't they "recoup" costs from the 1679cc V4 Vmax powerplant and put that one in other models?
did anyone spot the mouse run in front of the bike 😂😂😂 3.59s onwards 😂😂😂😂
Did he said that, there will be a new model based on the mt07 engine?
he did...
It really doesn’t need anything, but it’s fun to put 💄 💎 & cool 😎 stuff on an all ready bike.
what on earth is that at 10:06 with the quad headlights? looks naughty!..
Yar D Blah mt09 with pair of extra fog lights
The obvious conclusion is have the MT10SP and modify it! Win win 👍👏
I have a modified MT10 SP 😇
Great little comparison, would have liked if your put a prof tester opinion in as well and a track portion would have been ace. But great content
I already thought it was better anyway, having spent a lot of time on both mine and the SP, just wanted to see what others thought!
Fast Bikes Magazine just need a respray and Job done 😁 a bit off topic but if someone offered you a Duc 899 or an MT10 which would you take ?
I feel like John would be the type to play a video game and turn the graphics to low because it's just to pretty haha
Does anyone know what map he used on the his MT 10? Or where he got it?
bespoke map on JHS Racing's dyno
Anyone got a link or the name of the autoblipper used on the modded MT10?

I just want the SP screen on mine
Like ya mods but it would be the SP all day for me, limited / resell / electric susp / paintjob and that screen! Maybe with a link pipe thou that Akrapovic slip is is great lookin
But if you drive some trackdays, I would guess damping affects so mutch of your handling. And I don't like to much noise. I would pick the SP and may be add PC and Air filter.
Bois, we need a new version of mt10. I've had mine for almost 2 year, done over 30000kms, it still gets me hard every time, but it's time to modernize it and maybe add a few ponies :D
Sp is the better bike overall. its got everything better stock, just needs a pipe and thats it
Over a stock MT, yes, of course it is, but dynamically this modded MT is better on both raod and track - and it's still cheaper! Doesn't look as nice mind you.
Nice... but I'll wait for the Bandit 1300R
V. well done, intelligent report. Fun, too. Thanx.
I want a FZ10 I have a fz09 but want a 10 so badly
Spend the money on suspension, brakes, and training. You'll be riding quicker and better than any MT-10 rider. The increased costs involved with the 10 aren't worth it from the -09.
I might swap the screen and pipe to the SP then it's the ideal bike for me(adding hand guards and side bags)
wait wait wait now the dude has to get another MT-10 and start all over again? :o
I've had both and the SP is WAAAY better.. FastBikes suspension set up is too hard for real road riding..
Fast Bikes Magazine Sweet.
Fast Bikes Magazine I ride a 2017 SV650 which I've been customizing since February and a windshield is something that's never going to be added in fact I'm trying to find a way to do away with the bikini fairing.
i have a mt/fz 10, and I wouldn't mind some wind protection. I dont like the look of full fairing.
I;m not sure half fairings would look any better really. Put a Buell Firebolt next to a Lightning and it's almost no contest, same with the SV650S next to a same-period SV650 or SF
9:45 Classic Top Gear saying!
That rat at 4:00 though :)
LOL he's got an N7 logo on his suit, he's a Shepard xD
Ha, I wish!
4:01 is it a rat?
Yep, something like that. 🐭
in the listing of the mt you forgot the mt01
mt10sp rider changed tyres on mine and turns a lot quicker suspention is fantastic , only thing is mt10sp is so dear your scared of damaging it, so if you bought standerd one you could be a bit more who give a shit and not look after it as much, you all no you want one of them.
Fair point!
Very good video!
Still not an SP (when are you painting it) lol
A whole show about trying to keep your friend from being butthurt that a new bike came out that's better than his... Wow
Amazing when you listen to the people who buy your stuff and make what they want instead of what you want you sell more funny how they works!
I didn’t understand one word they said.
4:00 Look out Roland....
I have an FZ07 and an FZ10 and previously owned an FZ09. I have owned over 40 bikes in the last 10 years and The FZ10 is my Favorite of all! vetlad1954
Went to have a test ride.. dealer said "yeehh.. we dont really let anyone ride that one.. last guy lost his license".
Ha!
Nice video!!!
That rat nearly became a pancake.
Congrats you built a better SP than Yamaha. But yours looks like hell..
One man's Pat Butcher, etc...
Almost a hit and run....4:02.
Why is Johnny wearing a bucket hat?
