I think we all can agree that musicians and music heads almost had an aneurysm hearing this album. There was SO MUCH TO UNPACK🥺😭 I got chills so many times man. This is most definitely AOTY✨✨

everyone loves 'smokin out window' and 'leave door open',
but 'AFTER LAST NIGHT' is definitely the favorite cousin track of the whole album.

The best song that Bruno Mars has ever emoted has to be "Put On a Smile". When they modulated from key of E to F, I knew I was gonna tear up and I did. Babyface sang background vocals on this song which it made it even more special.
Bruno said in an interview that the key change in that song was Babyface’s idea.

Yeah only a couple of reactors noticed there was a story going on with this album! Something that's hardly done anymore in today's music, now songs are all over the place on a record sometimes.
Ive seen some much reactions on this one but yours is a classic! Puts a smile on my face!

You have the absolute best commentary I’ve come across: the deep well of musical knowledge, musical experience, knowing every musical reference/ inspiration was so on point.
Album of the decade. Instant classic. Should win every category it’s nominated on and bury all the competition. It’ll be played 40 years from now just like the music my parents loved.

I feel if skate had come out at the start or middle of the summer, it would have done much better.
The whole album really. It's hard to bump during a Nebraska winter lol.
Oh my, after listening to all of the songs 2x I needed a nap!!! Every song was masterfully written, produced, etc. I hope that Silk Sonic stays around for a good long while!!! 🎼🎵🎶🎼

I get those chills for the key changes in Blast Off every single time! For me this is easily the album of the year
Thank you for adding your reaction to the mix! I have watched many reactions for these songs/albums and I’ve noticed a definite trend. Basically 3 types of reactions:
1. Musicians and singers like yourself (and myself) who love and appreciate this album for how it is put together both in terms of production, instrumentation, and musical theory/structure.
2. People who understand and appreciate what Silk Sonic is trying to do with this album. From the narrative, historical influences and nods, and modern twists and interpretations. Plus the overall performance feel and vibe for each song. It is wrong, in my opinion, to compare songs against one another on this album because they serve different purposes.
3. People who don’t understand or appreciate any of things in the above to categories. They review, critique and rate the songs based on their preconceived notions of what a “good” song should be. And they only go surface deep and focus on non-important aspects on the music or performance.
Anyway, thank you for touching on ALL aspects of what makes this album great, and why it should be considered for album of the year for the 2023 Grammy’s (as it wasn’t released before the deadline for 2022 submissions).
By far the best body of work I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. A story right the way through the album and presentation that was peerless

First of all, I love this album. All that being said, your review was so on point. You are so musically knowledgeable but what I love is that you’re in touch with your inner stank. Watching you get lost in the funk was captivating. It was a physical manifestation of the vibe this album emotes coupled with your explanation of certain technical aspects made this review awesome! 🔥

This album is pretty much a love letter to the 70's. They managed to capture all forms of 70's sounds in 9 songs and it's something incredible. Now if they could only press it on vinyl, then we're golden. Love the reaction!! Thank you!

On Skate, check out that intro line that sounds similar to the bridge to Marvin’s What’s Goin On. It’s played on that track by the Indian stringed instrument, the sitar. It was a common technique of Philly soul Thom Bell productions back in the day, in particular, The Stylistics’ You Are Everything.

BLAST OFF.... Its literally like a ride on a rocket ship... the beginning of the song sounds like the chimes from a PA system followed by the rumbling of the drums like the rocket launching... the journey builds up.. then once you're in outerspace its like you're floating right (the modulation part).. SIlk Sonic... mann.. definitely sharing this with my grand kids

Yep, An Evening with Silk Sonic is my personal pick for Album of the Year............. but not gonna lie, Adele 30 had me shook in a way I didnt think I would considering I cant relate to the album like I can with Silk Sonic, but boy can you feel her.
