As someone who was alive back then, I can concur with 99% of what the DJ said. There is one error, however. Badmotorfinger did not spearhead Soundgarden into the mainstream. I wish it had as it was a phenomenal album Soundgarden made, but alas it was not meant to be. Badmotorfinger only hit #39 in the U.S., which was their highest charting position on LPs up to that point, but unless you were in the top 10 back then on Billboard's 200 chart, or in the top 10 for singles on Billboard's Hot 100, no one paid you any mind. And the only song off of Badmotorfinger to chart was Outshined, but it only managed to get onto the Mainstream Rock chart at #45. So no, that was not Soundgarden's breakthrough album, nor were the singles any real success as much as I wish it was true. Soundgarden didn't find mass success until Superunknown was released in 1994, one month before Kurt left this Earth. That's when Soundgarden caught wind of everyone. Superunknown went to #1 on the Billboard 200. And with the exception of My Wave hitting #13 on the Mainstream Rock chart, and The Day I Tried To Live hitting #11, all their other singles were in the top 5 on the Mainstream Rock charts. Sadly, none of those singles made it very far on the Hot 100. Only Black Hole Sun managed to chart on the Hot 100 at #24.
