    Love the point about buying basics with a personal style twist. I’ve always found myself gravitating to “basics” that have a touch of my feminine and elegant style. It makes them more me and still allows for easy mix and matching in my wardrobe

    Love the last tip especially….I’ve realized that I’m someone who buys lots of duplicates, and as a result, I often feel quite bored with my wardrobe. Really enjoy your videos!💕

    I really enjoyed this clip. Some useful tips that I hadn’t thought of before. My biggest regret buy seems to be shoes. I try them in store and they fit but after wearing them a few times I realise that they are mega uncomfortable and never wear them again. Such a waste of money, but for some reason this happens over and over again. Not sure if there is a solution for this.

    • @lifeontheledgerlines8394
      @lifeontheledgerlines8394 2 года назад +3

      Ah yeah, that happens sometimes. My best piece of advice would be to go and wear them while browsing the store for as long as possible, rather than putting them on for just 5 or so minutes trying them on looking in a mirror, and also to shop for shoes at the end of the day.

    • @SaschaBraus77
      @SaschaBraus77 2 года назад +8

      When shopping for shoes, shop for them in the evening. Go out beforehand, go for a long walk or go through every other store before you go search for footwear. Cause then your feet will be swollen the same way they'd be if you are on a busy day, wearing your shoes. Then when they are swolen you can make a better choice regarding comfortness cause if the shoe is comfortable while your feet is already sore, they will also be comfortable when your feet is relaxed.

      Thank you for watching Kylie! Gosh, I hate a shoe purchase that ends up being disappointing because there's no fix. I love the advice below! I'll just add on that certain styles of shoes will never be super comfortable walking shoes. I found myself purchasing styles that were just not right for the amount of walking I do. I also find that certain brands run narrow/wide in fit, and choosing the right width can make a huge difference. After buying shoes I like to just try them on carefully at home multiple times before committing to keeping (as Sasha mentions below that different time of day/heat can change our sizing)

    • @marahelwig2237
      @marahelwig2237 2 года назад +2

      Agree with all the previous comments. Also, find out what the store's return policy is. What I do when I buy a new pair of shoes is wear them at home (on a carpeted surface) for a few days. They won't look like they have been worn at that point, and if they are not feeling comfortable, return them. Just make sure you are complying with the store's return policy. Another thing you can do is check to see if any other retailers in your area stock these shoes, and if they do, buy the shoes at whatever store has the best return policy.

    This came at a great time! I decided to do a no buy month for July and I have some purchases planned for August, so I'll definitely be using these tips. I loved your last video on things to consider before purchasing a piece and am so excited to watch this one now! Thank you so much for your fantastic content :)
    Edit: I just finished watching the video, and I love your nuanced and carefully considered advice. Even though you talked about fabrics in your last video on shopping, you found new ways to elaborate on it and all of the other topics you covered. Love it!

    Wow, I enjoyed this so much. You are so thoughtful and practical and it is so fun to see how your style has truly developed. Top points for me:
    - the size chart doesn't know that you're shorter/taller etc. (love the subtle humor in how you said this!)
    - wearing multiple ways doesn't have to equal just mixing and matching for essentially the same outfit
    - basics often cater to everyone and therefore no one in particular so it really pays off to look for those that suit us best
    Also loving seeing the "ugly" pieces coming in, like the sezane patchwork top and this sweater. Definitely thinking about DIY-ing my own fun animal-embroidered sweater, inspired by you!

    Three words is really trending now. Just like capsule wardrobes did back in the day. I really don't think we need to put ourselves in those boxes. It ultimately leads to us having similar outfits and/or multiple colours of the same thing. Totally guilty! My husband always says 'don't you have one of those already?' after I buy yet another pleated skirt!!!

    • @DailyHelenJ
      @DailyHelenJ  2 года назад +1

      It definitely is trending! I like it as a bit of a tool to use, but not necessarily forcing ourselves to fit perfectly into the 3 words (if that makes sense). My partner says that a lot too haha, I think for me it's sweaters. Thank you for watching x

    Great video ☺️. I definitely get over excited about one or two elements of a piece and fail to consider it as a whole and how it will meld with other things. Especially online shopping. I also tend to feel avoidance of simple or basic pieces because I don’t want to feel boring. From this video I think I’ll put a little checklist of considerations together so I can find some interesting basics and versatile things 😊.

    this is such a good video!! thank you for all these tips, been feeling like my style has been stagnating in past months - the point that stood out most to me was considering whether or not a new item of clothing challenged my personal style. I realised I got a few pieces like that recently, and they definitely bring so many fresh perspectives to my wardrobe! I'll definitely keep your tips in mind moving forward ♡

    If you have a style, not sure how adding "new and fresh" instead of "replicating what you have" is a good idea. Of course, if you want to change or update your style, but if you actually know what you like and wear 🤔? Sometimes replacing and replicating what you already have might be smart?

    Hey lady, this was a really helpful video. Everyone's been talking about three words to describe your style. Do you think it would be wise, for the people who are on a style journey, and don't really know what's good (and looks good on them) to use three words to aspire to?

    • @_inflection3209
      @_inflection3209 2 года назад

      Also, do you steam your clothes? If so, do you have any recommendations for one?

    • @DailyHelenJ
      @DailyHelenJ  2 года назад +1

      I use the philips comfort touch steamer and so far so good! I feel like if I'm at the start of my style journey I would focus more on saving images, figuring out what I like and dislike - shapes, colours, proportions and so on. When I have a good idea, I would use the 3 word rule to summarise my style (and join together all the things I like to have more clarity on my personal style). Thank you for watching!!
