Once she got me into this sport since the 2014 World Cup, I completely stopped watching American sports the day the World Cup ended and never looked back.
It is harder for me to deal w stoppages in my country's fav sports. People like violence and aggression, especially Americans. Also, it has too many commercials, like you said, stoppages, even in basketball which I think is the best American sport. Basketball even has worldwide appeal! But world football (soccer)… come on. It’s loved all around the world because it’s so accessible and non stop, except for the 15 minute break, which is fine because it gives you time for your nerves to rest if the game happens to be intense (not saying that all games are amazing because there can be some boring ones, too, like in every sport out there), talk to friends, eat snacks, finish a beer, etc. I’m an American too. I used to watch basketball and a little bit of baseball (snooze fest) but when I married my wife from South America and she introduced to soccer, it was all over! I understood. The sport is truly something special.

I'd definitely recommend looking at the subtitles and the little blurbs in the bottom left. It gives you context for what makes these moments so great outside of the gameplay. Things like big games, circumstances, and how many goals he scores in one game makes some of these moments so much greater.

That was the only argument you had against Messi in the goat debate, and now that’s over because he won it. This guy has won literally everything. In football you have many different tournaments (not like Basketball or American Football where the players only play NBA or NFL. I think Messi has won like 40 professional club-titles in his career. And with that he has a ton of individual awards including 7 (soon 8) Ballon d'ors (basically like a MVP in NFL/NBA. That’s more than anyone else. There is so much more you can say about this man, but you would literally have to write a book to be able to cover everything!

I watched football since 2002 and to make it clear for new football fans confused who’s the greatest footballer in history, Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best but he’s not in the top 5 in history. He is a great player, but Messi has changed football and he’s the greatest of all time because he sustained greatness for the longest period of time. I played football and soccer for a good 20 years. Played mostly WR but did fill in at TE from time to time. As for soccer, i was mostly midfield. I got more banged up player soccer than football by a wide margin. Then again, I played soccer year round both indoor and outdoor but the bulk of more serious injuries were playing soccer. Possession battles and head balls.... it's rough.
