My home has been piling up since my husband passed 3 years ago. I've looked at my kitchen and thought, well this is going to take 6 months. After I started watching your videos and you clean an entire hoarded kitchen 20 X worse than mine and say, this took 18 man hours..I went, what? I can clean this in 2 days?? Then I jumped on it. I'm amazed at how well I'm doing and it's thanks to you. I don't have the funds right now to join, but once I do, I will. Thank you for what you do. You are a huge inspiration 😊

@ellenw8494 Thank you for that. I hear way too often, you should have a boyfriend by now. You should be dating by now. My husband clothes are still in the closet. His dresser hasn't been touched. I need to get through THAT first Please and ThankYou. I have been cleaning almost daily now and it really does feel good.

      Grief is real.
I cried every single day for 8 months. Not a day went by. How could I go on?? 💔
One day as I sit in my horrible piled bedroom/bath after 2 yrs of grief. Rest of the house I did mange to keep clean (total square foot 4,000)
Because of company. The bedroom/bath was so out of character for me too. I'm a neat freak.
I looked around & thought where do I start? I just stood up & made the choice to start. This guy cleans like me....one section at a time.
I first piled everything into a large hallway & started cleaning one area at a time. It's a large bedroom suite. After a week...it was just done. The hallway pile was went through & moved to a large foyer downstairs. From there it moved to a large mudroom/laundry room. Every time the pile became smaller & smaller. Until I realized I could get rid of all of it. And I hadn't used some things for years. I gave away designer stuff with price tags still on....but in the end...I felt like the worst part of my grief went with that pile. Now, 4 yrs later, I have so many fond memories instead of the horrible grief.
Let yourself grieve for however long it may take. Everyone is different.
To anyone that is broken hearted today💔💔💔 Please, hang in there. It will get easier. Hang onto fond memories ❤❤❤ 🙏🙏🙏

@ayabokti161 ❤️🙏❤️ At this very moment in throwing so many things away. I'm trying not to think about it. Just pick it up, so you use it? Yes or no. I'm refusing to attach a memory or feeling to it. It does feel pretty good looking at the pile so far that will be leaving the house. I've been at it literally like 45 minutes. This is going to be a good day. A purge day.

I lost my husband of 40 years 18 months ago. I just went through my second Christmas without him. I have some of his clothes still but other than that I still have most of his thing. My bedroom is a disaster. I just need to get up and get it done but I can't due to severe health reasons thanks to 12 rounds of chemo and covid which scarred my lungs. I look at it and think he wouldn't be happy with me and just cry. I hope soon the pain will ease. Until then I will do what I can as I can and call it good.

Hiiiii Mack! I’m excited to let you know that I’ve finally in at least 5 years started doing “Things”! Thanks to your expertise and patience with your clients, I’ve been able to take it all to heart. Plus yes, I’m in therapy. Then when i saw your video where you said, “I want you to do one thing. Just pick something and do it” (or something like that). That day i did 2 loads of laundry ☺️ The next day i scrubbed out my bathtub! Each day i do something else, and slowly but surely I’m getting things done.
Laundry, windows, dishes, etc. I actually wake up excited to do something else to get my house into shape. So thank you, Mack, from the bottom of my heart! ♥️

It's nice you did this clean even if it wasn't bad. Personally I grew up having a regular house cleaner and the general culture was to have a clean home above all else. Well now I'm a SAHM to 4 kids age 4 and under and a home maker. I can't afford a cleaning service. Ultimately, my brain knows my house isn't bad but it is when I compare to the standards I grew up with and that really bothers me sometimes and my heart tells me I'm failing as a home maker. So a clean like this would mean the world to me!

    Paint finish tips:
    Ceiling - flat white
    Trim/cabinets/doors - Semi-Gloss (I like extra white)
    Walls - Egg Shell
It's more work than painting everything semi-gloss white, but it fancies a place up. The flat white ceiling creates a soft light to even brighten a room. The semi-gloss on frequently touched surfaces is easier to wipe down, and the egg-shell is easier to clean than the flat white, but soft enough to spread the light without glare.

THIS! I don’t know why (maybe a paint salesman) but my mother was OCD when it came to painting the house, & that was the procedure of finish. One year she’d have us kids paint the interior & the next, the exterior.

I like to place sheets of newspaper on top of kitchen cupboards, if they don't reach the ceiling, then change them every couple of months. This stops dust and kitchen grease accumulating on top of them.
If I use a fresh lemon in recipes or drinks, I rub the lemon around the kitchen taps before bed to remove limescale, clean it off in the morning.
To make a dining room look clean just clear and polish the dining table then put a vase of fresh flowers right in the middle, nothing else. Guests will notice the flowers and table and usually not notice unpolished dressers and chairs.
When I worked in a clothing shop we had to have a minimum of 3 inches to move clothes along each rail so customers could see them properly. Might be a good idea in closets at home.

oxalic acid used to come from peach leaves. when mama wanted to bleach a load of white laundry shed gather the leaves and make a sort of tea (more leaves = stronger bleach) and soak her clothes. now-a-days is it used to bleach stains on wooden furniture. not corrosive like chlorine bleach. one unrelated story is, theyd wash bedding every spring /summer and once when MIL's mama had washed the pillows/sheets they were hung on the clothesline to dry for a couple of days. one night they had a VERY late frost and the next morning my MIL ran through the hanging laundry and pillows and ran smack into a frozen pillow and knocked herself out cold. even she laughed at that as an older lady.

I needed to watch this one again. If the levels of hoarding include sheer number of “things” in the house then they qualify. My kitchen zone cleaning (one week a month) is pretty much the same, everything on the counters gets shifted, counters sanitized, things like the toaster get shined up and the crumbs dumped out, I have mice so we changed to glass canisters that live on the counter, they get shined up, scrub cabinet fronts, bleach my corian sink and I’ll do a project cabinet or drawer or two during the week, also go through cabinets, food inventory looking at dates, checking for evidence of mice, checking for weevils in flour, stinky potatoes, like that. I hate those pillows marching down the bed, they seem to be the Pinterest worthy thing but they wind up being a trip hazard cause they wind up on the floor. Nice job.

@@mustanghildago4540 It's Mack's all purpose cleaner that he gives the recipe for: mix together a half cup of 70% isopropyl alcohol, 1.5 cups tap water and a few drops of Dawn dish washing liquid (the blue stuff). Shake well and spray on. It disinfects and shines surfaces. Don't use it on wood because of the alcohol. The scent reminds me of an old-fashioned dentist's office, but it does a great job on stainless steel, glass, granite and the litter boxes.

I still can't believe how we think alike regarding cleaning! I've never had a microfiber cloth that works though. What is apc? I use hydrogen peroxide on soap scum, let it set and then scrape it off. I use magic erasers a lot, I buy the 'knock off' ones and add my own soaps. Cheaper and works great.

Also, I use rubbing alcohol to cut grease on the oven hood and peroxide on some stains cuz it does 'bleach' some of them out. What do you think? I also made the beds for my clients though it's not part of the deal

I use to be a clean freak, but health decline over the past few years (covid) has basically halted that. I just moved yesterday and one of the first things I noticed is that there is NO dust falling from the ceiling (I use to see with my naked eye, dust falling in my old house and it wasn't stirred up dust). I realise now in my old home, I pretty much just gave up because I would clean and the next day things were already be dusty again as if a month had passed. It was just pushing crap up hill. I think that mentality along with being sick, I just gave up and didn't care. I didn't get as bad as a hoarder, but watching your videos I was starting to get the mentality of a hoarder. So far I have donated 5 medium garbage size of clothes, shoes, handbags, linen etc to charity and thrown away A LOT! I'll need to wash my sofa, if you have any ideas for that without spending lots of money I'd appreciate it. I do have a steam mop, if that helps with ideas... a good Hoover brand steam mop.

Professional upholstery and carpet cleaners do something called “Bonnet Cleaning “. Take your kitchen mixer with beater attachments and whip up some mild dish detergent like Dove. Then take white washcloths, tea towels or hand towels and rub the upholstery with the SUDS only, not the liquid. It’s an effective, topical cleaning without over wetting the upholstery.

Depending on the status of one's genitourinary system, urine is sterile as it flows through to outside the urethra which at that point oxygen reacts with the liquid, and bacteria can grow from receiving said
oxygen. We nurses are gathering samples left and right 😂 and we call them by different names: "clean catch", "random," etc. Fascinating stuff, guys 😂😂😂

Loved seeing some of the things you do for a regular home to look neater, will definitely be adopting some of those. I've been meaning to mention to you how good it is to see you using Bar Keeper's Friend. Its manufacturing base is about a half hour from my home. Also, while the powder form you use is great for stainless steel, they also have a soft scrub version that does wonders for our antique porcelain kitchen sink and on bathroom tile as well. As always, thanks for the inspiration!

I'm not a fan of spin mops either. They're flimsy and would be spin kicked into oblivion the second it tried to take on the industrial-level grime that builds up in our house. Life in Arizona isn't for weenies (there's a reason that up until the early 2000s when property speculators deemed Arizona THE place to be, nobody in their right mind wanted to live here. A lot of newcomers have a huge adjustment curve to face when they get here cuz their cars' seals and gaskets dry up and cause leaks and the temperatures don't go into the stratosphere for months at a time in most places in the country). I envy you for living in a cooler, wetter, less dusty environment.
Thank you for being considerate of the baby in the home. I myself had a baby this spring, and it can be challenging to plan vacuuming around naptimes. I used to wear my babies in a papoose while doing housekeeping, but I sustained a back injury this summer which limits how long I can wear the baby until my back starts to act up. Plus, the loud vacuum motor noise isn't great for their ears either.
Take care of yourself, Emily, and the kids (both furry and human). Have a safe and happy Christmas and an awesome New Year!
