- Been wanting to put these two calibers to a challenge for quite a while now today finally went out and made it happen. I know the PRC hits harder but was wanting to give it some perspective. Not my most accurate day of shooting but really was just trying to be on steel.

Great vid Big B! I have always loved Browning, I have the BLR LT. WT. 30.06 Lever Action, what a killer rifle! I'm saving for a Bergara 6.5 PRC...yeahsssss I sold myself on it and there is no turning back. The action is smooth like butter and the price is right for the features and "accuracy". Yer bolt sounded super smooth too when you slid it, dang! GO BROWNING!

My buddies are on me about my recent rifle order. I ordered a Sauer 100 Cherokee in 6.5 PRC. I already own a 6.5 Creedmoor setup. This video is testimony to my reasoning. Oh, the rifle is cool looking too lol.
George White tell them we already had 2 creedmoors but ordered the PRC cause it’s no joke. It out hits a lot of bigger cal guns especially down range. If they don’t believe you tell them to get a ballistic app and run some numbers.
I’ve been eyeballing that same rifle at Sportsman’s Warehouse. What are your thoughts so far?

The ruger 6.5 prc is a monster ! And will punch through most cheap steel targets lol like butter made some 308 guys a Lil salty even tho the 308 is a respectable round its self
Great comparison! Thanks. I have a couple of 6.5 CM's that I really like, but your video has peaked my interest in a 6.5 PRC. There's always a risk with newer cartridges that support will wane and you'll have issues finding brass, etc., but this one looks like a winner. Virgin brass is hard to find right now just like a lot of reloading supplies, but hopefully that will change when this pandemic thing winds down. Factory ammo appears to be available (although it's pricey), so I could always reload that brass for now. May take the plunge!

Heard alot of good things about the Creedmoor but I have had my 270 for so many years and am kinda in love with it. Great video Brother
The CAMO Cowboy Outdoors the old man took a lot of moose with his 270 there’s not a darn thing wrong with it. Stood the test of time!
The 270 is an incredible cartridge! I have a Browning medallion in 270. .4 inch groups at 100 yards. Zero negatives and much more velocity than the 6.5 creedmoor. You can reload it with high BC bullets which will make the fly long

Smacked a lot of whitetail with the .270 with no issues. In our hunting club of 4 it's 3-.270's and now my 6.5mm creedmoor. Only reason for my change was multiple shoulder injuries/surgeries. Lighter rifle with less felt recoil in the 6.5mm creedmoor. Easier on my shoulder for the carrying and the shooting
If you are happy with your .270 keep it. The 6.5cm’s advantages are slightly less recoil, it’s a short action (if that matters), and if you plan to target shoot out to a 1,000yds. For just hunting deer I’d take the .270 all day.
It wasn't until you zoomed out that I was truly impressed. Damn good shooting & guns too.

I'm still shooting the .308 Winchester. Lapua brass Hodgdon CFE 223 46.0 gr. 175 SMK. Out of a Savage model 10, stock. Accu-trigger, heavy barrel. At these temperatures I'm at 14.0 moa at 600 yards. I've been looking at that 6.5 PRC with lustful eye's for a while now. I have a .243 Winchester Tikka that has impressed me. Now I need to find me a Tikka in 6.5 PRC. Those holes punched in your target finished off my decision on the PRC.

Adam, as of this year there's probably more of a chance than any other that the .308 along with more see a major decline in sales. In 4 year's who know's your question may be valid?!
@@kentuckywindage222 yeah, I was just goofing around because of how defensive .308 loyalists get when you bring up the 6.5cm. I know the sales have declined with the .308 thanks to the 6.5. It will always be around though because of its military pedigree but it’s on the decline without a doubt.
I’m sick of seeing 6.5cm rifles every time I pick up a rifle in a gun shop. I know it’s a great round but the one I had didn’t do anything that my beloved 7mm-08 didn’t already do. I don’t punch paper at a 1,000yds so I prefer the 7mm for a pure hunting rifle.

7mm-08 is a great round. Versatile like the .243 with a little better everything and about the same recoil. It really boils down to better B.C. for longer range. You can speed a bullet to a point, but after that it goes back to weight and B.C.

I have the gun same rail and scope. Have only ran one box of ammo through it. Just got some 156g Berger custom loads. Can’t wait to get back to Montana where I can set up for 1000-1500yds I’ve hit 50% @ 1000 with nasty side wind with a creedmor hope to do better with the new prc
Cool video Brandon, I was thinking of getting a Max long range in 7 mm rem mag however I may hold out and pick up a PRC instead. Not expecting to ever shoot a deer or moose beyond 300 yrds or so but still want to be able to confidently shoot beyond 800 yrds. Keep up the great work. All the different angles you video from makes your videos very enjoyable to watch. It's gotta be more work for you to do it that way but it's worth it to the viewers.
Green Hornet yes for sure. Shooting at targets and animals are very different and regardless of caliber 5-600 yards should is my limit. But only if there was no way to close the gap. I make exceptions for coyotes however
Right on Brandon I feel the same way. The deer I shot this past hunting season was 164 yrds away as far as the range finder was concerned. That was a long shot on a deer for me. I'm normally a lot closer than that. But I love long range target shooting. I love shooting at targets as much as I do hunting. It's a great sport and the community that surrounds shooting sports is top notch! Get outside and do something instead of sitting at home behind a computer screen telling other people how they should be spending their time. Once we get past this COVID I'll be back at the range, loving every minute of it. Keep up they great work on the videos, I appreciate the effort!
hey green hornet. just my 2 cents, but if you haven’t bought yet, id go 6.5prc over 7mm mag. i had a 7mm mag for two years and had to ditch it. the recoil was rediculous and hard to find ammo. i currently have the creedmor and love it. though seeing the prc in action its on the hit list. cheers!
Sequoia TreeScape 🌲 I actually went ahead with the 7mm MAG and I'm pretty happy with it. It is deadly accurate and with the break installed the recoil isn't bad. I'm still thinking of getting a PRC but I started hunting deer with a crossbow this past deer season and I was fortunate enough to fill both my tags so I kinda put the rifles away haha.

I own both prc and creed, I’d say they’re both shootin suckers but the velocity and ability to load heavies had me sold on the prc. I own a Christensen mpr and my buddy runs a browning xbolt long range in prc. We took them out to 1200 the other day and both rifles shot super well on a 12” round target. Thanks for the video man.

My Mossberg 6.5 PRC shoots great with Hornady Hunter ELD X and my Silencerco Omega 300.
No recoil and really accurate .Much better than I expected.
I dont know that its any more accurate than my Remington 700 6.5 Creedmoor .

I took a doe a week ago with my 6.5PRC. I'm hooked. I have a 270win, but rarely shoot it now. The PRC shoots way better and doesn't tear up the meat like the 270 does.
A couple weeks ago I made a neck shot on a White Tail @ 220 yards with a 6.5 PRC.I believe in them!

Some really nice shooters you have there. I switched over to Trophy Bonded bearclaw bullets last year for my Christensen 6.5 because I had poor performance with Hornady SST on a ram. When I consider maximum range of a rifle I look at velocity and expansion versus foot lbs of energy. If a bullet doesn't expand it doesn't put much energy into the animal. Most bullets start having expansion issues at 1900. I love accurate rifle bullet combinations but when using a gun to hunt with bullet selection is everything.
SST generally explodes though, Eld-x is better
@@joshjamesguitar I had lead separation with the SST. Bonded is the way to go. Tried Eld-x but they didn't shoot that well in my Creedmoor.
Interlock is a good bullet those sst are junk for big game
ELD-M performs better than any other bullet I have found at extended ranges. It's just marketing and contractual obligations that prevent the ELD-M from having a hunting designation, and the eld-x is almost the exact same bullet with a heavier jacket. Do research by shooting the match version at distance on gel and you will indeed find it superior.
@@jaysunkreuze1466 Interesting. ELD-X are not a bonded bullet, relying on a interlocking internal ring to keep the lead from separating from the jacket.(per Hornady's website). Lead separation may occur. So maybe not a good choice for point blank ranges. What velocity have you seen no expansion?
The prc sure makes a difference in the plates, I am trying to get the prc in the Savage High Country.

Very interesting demo on the difference in energy. My Ruger Precision Rifle is a 6.5 CM for competition.
However I have a 6.5 PRC Browning X-Bolt Pro (24" barrel) for mountain hunting. It weights only 6 lbs. 3 oz.
It has a Bushnell Elite LRTS 4.5 - 18 x 44 scope with FFP, mil/mil and G3 illuminated reticle for long range hunting here in Nevada. It sits in burnt bronze Cerakote Talley rings with a bubble level in the ear ring top half. It gets 1/2 MOA with 147 gr. Hornady ELD-M But only for the 1st 4 or 5 rounds and then the barrel heats up and the group doubles in size.
Well you will find that with a lot of rifles. Giver her time to cool. If it’s for hunting should be all good. Only issues that would really cause you is if you were trying to shoot competitions with it.

Good comparison. I think for long range hunting definitely the PRC, but if you are shooting tactical matches out to 700 yards then the creedmore might just get you more points with less recoil and cost and added barrel life. But you could load longer, heavier bullets in The prc and that would change The equation.
The main difference is that you can rebarrel any 308 rifle into creed, but you need a new rifle for prc

Nice Shooting. If someone was going to get a rifle in 6.5 or prc which would you recommend? Do you normally get tighter groups with the Prc or creedmoor?
FORDEVR if you’re just shooting deer creedmoor is fine. If moose or elk go with PRC. Not that creedmoor can’t, PRC just hits harder. Both shoot very accurate I couldn’t give the win to either. PRC is essentially a 6.5 creedmoor magnum.
With how clean those holes are from the 6.5 PRC, it would be interesting to see at what distance they match the dents of the 6.5 CM's... Clever video..
At this distance creed was hitting with 1309 ft lbs of energy. PRC retains this energy out to 765 yards where it is at 1309 ft lbs.

Hello Brandon, I was originally looking to get a Savage 110 Ultralite in 6.5 Creedmoor as I am a smaller side hunter. 5"6' 130 pounds (That's with 15 pounds of gym added muscle) I have only ever used my 30-30 lever action rifle for hunting deer but was looking to get my first bolt action rifle and step up to slightly bigger game. The mild recoil of a 6.5 Creedmoor attracted me but after learning of the PRC I became interested as I knew some people recommend a bit more punch. Would you say that with the right muzzle break such as the one you used the 6.5 PRC even when shooting from a non prone position is fine for someone of my build. I'm not afraid of kick and have shot plenty of harsher rounds, but the wrong rifles standing have given me a distaste for harder hitting calibers. Thanks!
Mitchell Khan the one I have is a bit heavy at almost 13 pounds as it sits. That coupled with the better brake I put on it Stacy shoots with ease and she’s just over 100 lbs so you should have no issue.
I’ve found 6.5 PRC is an excellent grouping cartridge with lots of reloading combinations that work. And yes 3100 FPS is easily achieved. The best part of this video is showing the energy difference down range.

Yes 140’s with a 24” 5r barrel. I also have a 147M load that groups really well at 3020fps but is over max charge weight of H1000 of what the book says but I have zero pressure signs. Get one but make sure you can find the brass. @Jess Hadlock
Debating on getting one of these.. the Hells Canyon Speed Long range is a bit more than the Max long range.. but I noticed they also came out with a 6.5 PRC for the Speed Long Range. Which one you picking up considering they both come in the 6.5 PRC now ? This is only thing stopping me from going to the gun store and picking one up lol. Appreciate it !

I have a Ruger American predator in 6.5 creedmoor. It likes factory Hornady ammo in 143 grain eldx. I get inch or less groups at 100 yards. Great gun. Have taken 6 mule deer and a cow elk with it

I would like to see a test how far out will the 6.5cm will punch a hole vs how much further the 6.5prc will punch a hole in the steel. My guess would be 520yds for the cm vs 680 for the prc.

Just a heads up for the people watching I have a 6.5 prc Christensen arms long range/hunter Mesa with the same scope he has but FFP and I’m get .36 in at 100 and 2 1/2 in group at 550 on a bench shooting holes thru 1/4 in plates at distance none of my other rifles shoot thru the plates except my 257 weatherby mag.. so I highly recommend this round I’ve taken a buck and 3 pigs this year with it all over 300 yards with one shot each! It does the job great

Hey Brandon, If I may offer some " Advise" you are shooting a caliber that is capable of much tighter groups at the distance you are shooting. You shoot very well. But, you are limited in your shooting capabilities using factory ammo. My advice to you would be to maximize the weapon you are using. Start Hand loading your rounds if it is possible. Yeah I know that components are hard to find right now. But, if you keep all of your brass and pick up the necessary loading parts. I think that you would be that much more successful. If you want or need any help getting started in hand loading, I can surely help. I would be more than happy to help. I shoot extended long range with my own hand loads. I'm pushing my 6.5 CM out past a mile on a ipsc target. 6mm creeedmoor out to 2000 yards and several other calibers well past the average distance. Keep up the Song Dog poking. Love to watch your videos.
What do you think, what is better in accuracy? PRC or Creedmore?
@@pgchem I do not have any experience with 6.5 PRC. I do have an abundance with the creedmoor. I own 4. There are plenty of Creedmoor haters out there, but my experiences have been Great. The information I have received on the 6.5 PRC is that they are only getting around 100-150 fps. more out of the PRC. I cannot confirm this though.
@@pgchem When it comes to accuracy, it's all about matching a load to the harmonics of the barrel. All guns/ cartridges are capable of great accuracy unless you have a bad barrel. The trick to accuracy is matching a bullet and powder charge to the harmonics of that particular barrel. I run a 140 grain bullet @3000 fps. out of my RPR. it shoots lights out.
It's just advice when you intend to offer constructive criticism and it's received as constructive criticism.
"Advise" is when you intend to insult, ridicule, or disparage someone as you virtue signal how awesome you are.

I have never been able to see what is so special about the Creedmoor.
For someone who is NOT a creedmoor fan boy....all I can tell you is it's all about the bullet not the cartridge.
The Creedmoor is a system of gun and ammo. Heavy for caliber bullets, barrels with fast twist ratesand quality factory ammo that works in a variety of gun platforms. Many older guns are limited by their twist rates.
It is a very accurate, light recoiling round. Great for kids. Does it make a 7mm RM nervous? Of course not, nor do I need one, but it still has a purpose.

JOGO it was a bit more however with the precision armament brake I put on it now its significantly less than the creedmoors with stock browning radial brake.

I do believe that your groups here would have been better if shot from a bench instead of that veery flexible snow surface. But... i assume that it does shoot better from a bench... but a little different from the hunting surface and condition like that. Have you grouped it from a more solid position?

I think your bipod legs and rifle came more straight back in those videos... but in this snow video... everything jumped upwards and to the right... which I think... it should push your bullets to high right impacts... which it did. That's just my minor observation while sitting here on the computer in South Carolina....LOL. I wish I was there looking over your shoulder right now... or better yet.... going to chase those wolves.

@@BrandonandStacyHunt ha ha - thanks for asking and I'm sorry for not updating you. I ordered the M-11 in the wrong color so I called up to exchange it and he talked me into the HT65 Hypertap. His brakes are tightly drilled to 6.5 diameter so I can't try it out on my .30 caliber like with most brakes. My 6.5 rifle is "in the shop" so I haven't put it on the rifle yet. Thank you for remembering and I will let you know when I get my rifle back - could be 4 weeks.
@@BrandonandStacyHunt - Hey - Motivated by your reply, I put the HT65 Hypertap brake on my 6.5 Creedmoor Christensen Ridgeline. It's a very lightweight rifle and I had been overwhelmed by the recoil and had been thinking about selling it even though it's very accurate. The HT65 Hypertap was amazing!!! It changed the recoil profile so much that I was able to shoot more than 60 rounds today with no soreness, flinching or anticipation of the shot. My accuracy was fantastic -- sub-1/2-MOA out to 250 yards. It's a GREAT product. Thank you for introducing me to them!!!
David Greenapple yes I found the same results with m11. Actually when I went to order I was after the hypertap but it wasn’t quite available yet so got m11. But I like the profile of the hypertap more. How does it look on the barrel? Is it quite bulky or small profile? Might have to order one.

Just bought a another 6.5 creedmore in mpr I would’ve bought a prc mpr but man those rounds are hard to come by right now being so new and not a lot manufacturer making them almost zero availability online for prc rounds. So I chose the creedmore which is still a great round.

Hey sorry never hunter Elk with a creedmoor. If you’re wishing a reasonable distance 250 yards and closer creed shoukd work just fine, you’d be 1800 ft lbs of energy and higher the closer you get

At 600 yards performance is closely matched. Is a 1,000 yards that the difference is noted with a drop of kinetic energy by the 6.5 Creedmor
The reason you are losing accuracy is because the barrel is heating up. If you waited longer between shots your accuracy would go up. Great video! What are the scopes you are shooting with, and how much do they cost?

Why did you go with 2nd focal plane scopes instead of 1st focal plane? If you're using an app for ballistics, where are you getting your weather information from?
elkbow I don’t use reticle for measuring. If need be the only advantage to FFP is that you can range at any magnification. However doing this the reticle grows. I can see how it could be an advantage for competition prs shooters to make corrections quick. For hunting though I didn’t like the idea of having a large reticle with magnification for shooting at small targets such as coyotes at longer ranges. I use the weather that updates in the iSnipe app. I should get a kestrel meter though.
@@BrandonandStacyHunt never use mine for calculating distances, I use a rangefinder for that, much faster.
With an SFP reticle, the spacing for holdover in the reticle is only correct at one magnification, usually the highest setting. If the scope’s magnification is set lower, the size of the reticle relative to the target changes and the increments of the spacing will change.
If you do all your long-range shooting only at the highest magnification, this is not an issue and an SFP scope will work fine. One advantage is that you have a strong and easy-to-see reticle even at the lowest magnification.

@@BrandonandStacyHunt think you'll learn over time the using the reticle to the fullest, like a holdover is much faster after initial dial. Also mil scopes are much faster to dial and that for any long range hunting as first focal plane is the way to go. Also what's up with the accuracy lol? This is at 565 yards, I was using a 18" Wilson Combat AR. Plates are 10", 8", 6" and 4".

I own the 6.5 Creedmoor in Hel'sl Canyon with the Macmillan stock it is awesome. I had ordered a 300 PRC 6 weeks ago, now I am forced to order the 6.5 PRC. Browning makes a great rifle for the price. The only question is are they barrel burners? Great video! I enjoyed it big time!
BigO4185 well for myself I don’t think I’ll burn out a barrel in my lifetime. I shot maybe 2 boxes a year.
I've heard 1000- 1500 rounds before burn out, I've heard 1500 to 2500. If you shoot bigger loads, I'm guessing 1000-1500. If you're like me and never really go out to shoot, it would last a few lifetimes. Shooting hundreds of rounds a year, you might need to replace it every couple of years. If you're really punishing it, you would need a new barrel much sooner.
Hope the PRC will spread like the Creedmoor so that I can buy ammo easily in France, it would become my do it all for stalking and on stands.

@@thebigfellar7178 thanks for the input. Appears as of late the trend is that manufacturers are pushing “long range” new and improved cartridges. I fell for it for a bit, but not for hunting purposes just shooting. At any rate it drives sales up and now we have new cartridges and ammo suppliers can’t keep up. Far too much of “what is best” going on out there. Shoot what you shoot well. Keep distances respectable. We owe it to game to do our best to be clean and ethical. Pop shots from 1000 yards are anything but ethical. I cringe when I watch videos “Elk kill 1000 yards” etc. For me the trend is moving in the wrong direction. I won’t hold judgement on those who do it but I surely don’t agree with it. Too easy to go grab a new gun touted to be the new best long range cartridge, go ring some steel in perfect conditions one day and go purposely aim at an animal from that distance the next. IMO there is no circumstance where a 1000 yard shot would need to be taken at game. I’ve shot steel enough to know too much room for error and there are very few who can make a first round hit on an 8” vital size target that size consistently.

One day you can , next day you can't. I'd give anything to be able to walk to the mailbox. I used to climb mountains. As you get older never stop walking . Ever. Because once you do , it's over. I don't miss hunting and killing . I miss the friendship and campfires and dinners and waking up with a head like a blue ribbon hog, from the booze , lol. Cleaning animals is work. People don't realise just how much work. I always cheated hunting . My mentor was a Cree injun. He was lazy. But smart ""Oh my *** !!!!!! I''ll tell you one of my old tricks , I carried a 2 gallon plastic tub with lid in my hunting S.U.V. filled with horse manure. And going a field I'd step in it and squish it in good . Best cover scent ever. And I've had bucks follow it to me before. Cheap too. A horse is a neutral type animal to all other animals , not a threat. Be amazed how few know this. try it sometime , I think you'll be amazed. I always made my spray cover scent out of grass and water. Ez and works. And never call animals with callers . Deer are not predators . Lastly never wash your hunting clothes in laundry Detergent , it has Fluoride in it. You will glow like an angel to animals ,use baking soda it kills the fluoride and the flower and human scent and you won't smell or glow. I always kept my entire outfit boots and all in a tub in the SUV ,and a shower tent as well. I got the pop up kind at the end . You can pop it up anywhere and come out a hunter. Pops back down and throw it back in and gone. You can use it beside a highway and no one knows you're changing. Cheap too. Best of luck to you guys . Peace.

I just stopped in for the actual testing comparo. But all the show and tell before was icing on the cake. Why? Cuz I'm a gun freak and like people showing me guns. So, after watching this, what's my takeaway? 200 more yards out of the PRC on a deer. Nice, but I have 6.5 Creedmoor and don't want to drop a grand on a new gun so I guess I'll just have to be more patient and sneaky to get my Venison.

My friend owns the Tikka, and I think it’s a fantastic rifle. I was recently checking out the Sauer at Sportsman’s Warehouse, and I’m leaning towards that one. The trigger is nothing short of impressive. The action is smooth and it’s well balanced. If I was to choose, it’s the Sauer, but in reality, they are both awesome rifles and I’d be happy with either.
What is the advantage of a 6.5 PRC over say a 7mm Remington Mag. I am sure recoil would be less with the 6.5 but with the right muzzle break recoil isn't that big of issue anyway, I already have a 7mm mag and have been thinking about building a 6.5 PRC but looking at the ballistics of the two rounds I am having a hard time justifying it to myself as the ballistics look very similar.
Robert Carey I loaded up a Hornady 162gr SST and ran ballistics. For practical hunting ranges you won’t see much. I’m not an advocate of long range hunting but if you do look at down range energy the PRC edges it out. I use 1200 ft lbs as the go/no go. If less than that I’d never take a shot in large game. But with my shooting level and from my experience with long range shooting I’d likely never go any farther than 600 yards, in ideal conditions. That said the 7mm rem Mag hits 1200 around 650 yards, PRC is out at 780 yards. There will be less drop and wind deflection with PRC also. PRC uses roughly 25 grains less powder, less recoil and short action.
Not trolling on this guys video, it's a great vid but don't let people persuade you with the new hype the 6.5 is not even remotely in the same class on it's best days as your big boy cartridges that's actually practical to hunt BIG game with like your 7 and 300 mags I have been on alot of big game kills and in the field in real conditions ,not shooting at steel, it takes alot of ass to smack down elk and moose past 350 yards, little on 7 and 8 , its matter of opinion but most guides in big game territory will laugh at the 6.5 unless it's a female or young kid shooting it, this is such a heated debate because there is so many experienced guys that know better than using such a small caliber when its real life situations but it's the new thing so you have a bunch of bandwagon people saying it's a great round! Dont get me wrong I personally use a 6.5 but it's not going on elk and moose hunts I have had mature whitetail bucks run a hundred yards and moore after being hit with the 6.5 at under 380 yards personally and with perfect shot placement but everyone has an opinion I just hate to see false info spread and having a bunch of rookies out in the field wounding animals because of something they seen on RUclips! You wont to hunt the big boys then gotta shoot with the big boys and that's 7mm and up I personally believe, but I'm an outdoorsman for a living what do I know! I use nothing smaller than 7 mag and just recently purchased 338 after years of shooting 300s , it's more than enough but when it comes to 300+ pound animals esp 1,000 pound animals then it's hard to have "overkill " I run traps deep in the mountains and have had rookies make rookie mistakes and it cost us wolves, dont be that rookie shooting at mature elk at 800 yards with a 6.5. It is a great round but that is way out of its league and personally I stay within 5 even with a 7 mm Remington for such game. But to each his own
@@BrandonandStacyHuntI reviewed published data from Hornady as shown here: www.hornady.com/ammunition/rifle/#!/ comparing the 7mm Hornady 162 eld x (BC .631) and the Hornady 143 grain 6.5 eldx (BC.625) so I could compare both calibers shooting the same bullet with factory loaded ammunition. Hornady's published data shows 7mm mag with 1772 lbs energy at 500 yards and the 6.5PRC with 1604 ft lbs at 500 yards. Bullet drop at 500 yards is shown as 36.9 inches for 7mm mag and 36.2 inches for 6.5 PRC. Using Federal ballistic calculator shooting these same rounds show the Hornady 7mm mag carries 840 yards before reaching 1200 ft lbs and 6.5 PRC carries 740 yards before reaching 1200 ft lbs. Looking all the way out to 1000 yards the 6.5 PRC is still 125 ft lbs of energy behind the 7mm and with both shooting Factory ELD X Bullets. At 1000 yards bullet drop and wind drift are almost identical. With a 10 mi per hr wind the numbers are 249.9" drop with 60.9" drift for 7mm and 249.3" drop with 61.3 wind drift for 6.5 PRC. The reduced recoil and shorter action are both very valid points especially the reduced recoil. My point about the ballistics looking similar I believe to be valid as well. Thank you for taking the time to respond, I really want to build a 6.5 PRC and am just looking for reasons to talk my self into it.
No worries. I am in no way advocating any long range hunting should be done. I personally believe 500 yards should be max for any caliber. I have seen the long shots guys are doing at elk 800 yards and beyond with a creedmoor and agree this is in fact poor judgement, not hunting and unethical in my opinion. But I believe the PRC is a large game round when at respectable hunting ranges. It hits harder than many 7mm rem mag rounds out there, as well as some 300 win mag loads also. Will I use it to shoot a moose at 800 yards, no. 200-300, certainly. Ive seen 3 hit with it now all done within 15-20 yards in a matter of seconds.
Ahh, see I didn't have that bullet in my ballistic calculator. I didn't know they were running such a high bc in a 7mm rem mag, what is the twist rate of your barrel? 1:9? I'd suspect it is too large to stabilize this bullet efficiently, I could be wrong though. So other than less powder, recoil and short action yes they do look pretty similar. I’m shouting 147 with a bc of 0.697 at about 2910. I know some hand loafers are pushing it around the 3050-3100 fps mark.
I'm thinking the calculations of 200' per 2nd or or more is off the creed more was bouncing off of his target the PRC is penetrating right through it

@@kaitheguy8437 just helps to get it to stop at the right spot when it gets tight so that it’s positioned right on the barrel. Threads are 5/8x24 on my HC 6.5
I have a area 419 self timing three port I think it was $160. I could shoot it all day. My 30.06 I’m 10 at most. Ammo is the biggest problem to find. $2.50 a round is the best I’ve found

I thought the 147 was too heavy in creedmoore. 130-140 worked better for me. The 147 and 153 in prc are both amazing. Especially the 153 atip. .355 g7 at 3000, and super accurate about a 4 on the recoil scale. Absolutely fantastic combo to shoot.

No I know it can do it. I’m saying I just thought it was too heavy for me in that case. I like the 135 a tips and 140 eldm for the cm.
My gun is a 1:8 so yea it did it but not great. Didn’t get the FPS I was hoping for and on paper drops more with the heavier than with the 130-140 range. So to me just makes more sense.
@@MrT13 this particular rifle shot the 147’s better than 143’s. I don’t hand load and didn’t try anything else.

More important than bullet energy is velocity and bullet construction. Still, bullet placement is more important than anything else. Shooting over 500 when hunting is unethical as it is essentially impossible to guarantee first shot kill shot placement.
