One of the best movies ever made, with a magnificent Miklos Rosza score! The final scenes always make me cry.
Wonderful Movie!!! One of the best epic movies ever!! Charlton Heston was/is the Perfect epic hero!
It is hard to comprehend just why they don't make magnificent epics like this one, Ben Hur and others any more. But one problem is that there was only one Charlton Heston and there never be another of the same calibre to play the wonderful that he played. I miss those wonderful epics that had no access to CGI at all and used real people. And the soundtracks of these films are ones which no one could easily forget.
The perfect leading man.
This epic should be re-released in cinemas.
I recently saw it for the first time, and it was quite a treat!
The greatest Knight who ever lived.....Salute El Cid

i am greatful for this movie brings back old memory when my dad was alive
That's a wonderful memory to cherish to remember your late father.
Now that is when they made films!
Including The Lion in the Winter (1968)
Great Movie makes me Proud of my Catillean Heritage. Castilla La Vieja Provincia De Leon. Thank you for the download.
Brilliant - Top 100 movie of all time.
Love how this movie correctly adapts the fact that El Cid fought for both Muslims and Christians during his time
And that it was in the midst of the Islamic Golden Age. The opening sets the tone so well, when you Ben Yusuf lambastes the sitting emirs, disgusted that "When men speak of you, they speak of poets, music makers, doctors, scientists... where are your warriors?!" It not only is historically accurate, but also casts the emirs and their people as multi-dimensional and sympathetic, and really sets up the main villain's motivation so well (world conquest at any cost), and why we are rooting against him and his forces.
@@tmorganrileyWhat were muslims doing in a Christian country? They have never been invited into white Christian countries by white Christians.
The flag of Castilla y Leon, the flag that explored the Oceans, discovered and conquered new Continents, in USA for instance, first city (town) established under this flag was San Juan in South Caroline in 1560 I recall, last spanish city in USA was San Diego (California), in 1821 in San Diego the flag of Castilla y Leon was lowered, that day San Diego changed from spanish sobvereingnity to mexican, the spanish soldiers were ordered to cut their pigtails, their wifes cried because of that.
Should have won a Oscar for the character . Charles Heston did
È IL FILM CHE HO SEMPRE AMATO E HO SEMPRE SOGNATO DI ESSERE DI ESSERE COME CHARLTON HESTON EROE CORAGGIOSO INVINCIBILE
From the days when a trailer showed you what to expect. Would I be right in thinking that you have been able to recreate the original trailer by using the blu ray and matching each shot to the original trailer's soundtrack? It looks fantastic.
Brilliant film acting music scenery all Tops the ultimate epic!😃🐎⚔️🇪🇸🎬🎥
In 1964 I saw this spectacular movie
from CROWN cinema,
Calicut.
"El CID" FILMED IN SPAIN at the famous Spanish coastal town of Peniscola, with its huge Moorish era "Castle on the beach". (Roughly halfway between Tarragona & Valencia). A genuine fishing village when filmed in 1961, but sadly the film resulted in wall to wall tourist Hotels within just a few years. Which destroyed this little towns medieaval flavour, so now it looks more like Miami Beach in Florida USA today !!!
I AVE NOT SEEN 'EL CID' I probably ought to see it one day
For God For Alfsono For Spain 😊
I remember seeing this film. It was great one. Wish they would be able to place it in more streaming services and also have a Blue Ray Version is available. From what I heard this was one of Scorsese's favorite films. Now yes this is a great film it has an impressive sets and recreations of the period and Heston and Loren give great performances. But there is evidence of a bit of Historical Revisionism. But still a great film one the most people may never see it be recreated anymore.
As I understand it, in this instance it is less a case of modern historical revisionism or playing loose with history, so much as it was instead prioritizing being faithful to the historical legendarium that had sprung up; incorporating various elements of the local legends (in Spain), Medieval romances, and Renaissance plays written about El Cid.
O filme norte - americano chamado El Cid, de Anthony Mann, é excelente!
All I want is a blu ray release with english subtitles.
1:38- (As Heston) Do I look like I'm in a ranch-set melodrama? No one slaps Heston!
“Who will besiege Valencia with me?”
- El Cid.
“The Reconqista begins now.”
- Pelayo
Im still waiting for this movie to be on Blue Ray
There are only a couple of films that actually capture medieval jousts as they once were.
El Cid.
Ivanhoe
And perhaps the series 'The Tudors'
I do not think we shall see others in the future. As brutal as they were, there was also an element of chivalry, of nobility and the glory of Western civilization woven deep and thru out. These are qualities the political Left would as soon erase for the sake of PC.
Baaah the pendulum will swing back, don't worry. It's just the times we live in. Unless you are 80, you will live to see more reasonable times... and possibly worse times, at the hands of the most reactionary right-wingers.

Great Movie !
I saw this movie in Spanish class in High School. . . . very memorable...I am thankful for my Spanish Teacher. Spain was a great melting pot of Europe, it makes it so perplexing when I see so much race-based conflict in the United States involving people who simply don't understand the history of their own ancestors.
@Hillary Clintub Native America, First Peoples, Aboriginal Americans, Original Americans yes...Indians not so much.
Or how about Europeans from various locations like England, France, Spain, Sweden, etc.
might it be more similar to refer to Native Americans of various tribes/locations such as the Pawnee, Souix, Blackfoot, Cherokee, Apache, Navajo, Hopi, Tewa, Towan, Ute, Payute, Tarahumara, Aztec, Toltec, Chichimec, Mixtec, Huichol, Maya, Muisca, Guahibo, Sikuani, Inca, ... many nations who developed most of the crops we eat, ...this term "Mexicans" has been oversimplified and disparaged. It seems like Native Americans would be more deserving of reparations and affirmative action status more than descendents of the European Spanish Conquistadores....right?
No "melting pot": There was a strict religious and ethnic legal separation; forbidden marriages between Muslims and Christians. Reconquista meant Repopulation with Christians of the conquered lands.
@@georgenaugles5039 Descendants of Spaniards in the USA are very few (except for Basques in Nevada) and, of course, never had nor have today "affirmative action status". Spaniards in the USA are and look like average Europeans, in case you don´t know.

A great film up to that fake ending. Rodrigo did not die and ride off into glory as depicted. He lived and spent the rest of his life with Chimeen and their children. Once again Hollywood changes the facts to suit their narrative.
