    God, this band has to have one of the kindest, sweetest communities on the Internet. It's honestly jarring to come from all the hate and negativity to this little bundle of kindness, where everyone is proud of their little quirks, and open and accepting to everyone who's also not normal. I guess a weird band gets weird fans, in the best way possible

    • @kevinlittleton3983

      Yes!! One of the main keys to continuous happiness is to absolutely give up on judging anyone. Forgiveness is key, and wishing (and bestowing) blessings on all you meet or even think about will powerfully create a positive response from The Law of Attraction. Easy? Nope. Just totally worth it. If you have enemies in any area of your life, create friendships instead, but if you can't- don't spend any emotional attention whatsoever to them. "Whatever you put your attention on, grows in your life." Accepting people as they are, flaws and all, makes the best sense. YOU hit the nail on the head with this post. Thank you!

    I know I'm late. I know I'm late by nearly two years to this song. But I heard Brass Goggles a while ago and I wanted to listen to it again, and a few weeks of getting into this band, and getting more invested and interested... I found this. And... I don't cry at music. I just don't. Music can certainly hit me in the chest, but I'm not moved to tears.
    And then there was this song. I watched it through, and... god. I'm shaking. And not in a bad way.
    This song made me cry. And I feel so hopeful. I'm trans, a trans guy, and I'm still closeted at school and my family (especially my father) is still tentatively understanding. Seeing so many people who are from the same community as me, and I'm just. I don't know how to put into words how I feel. I feel so goddamn happy, but at the same time I feel a certain sense of... I don't know. Blankness. Not emptiness, but just... blank.
    This isn't worded the way I want it to be worded. I can't put all the ways I feel into a good paragraph. But god, I know that I can say thank you. Thank you, so much, for this song. Thank you.

      +Heleena DiMare it has an horizontal stripe, and then a vertical one to keep it in place, kinda like an inverted "T". A little stripe below the mandible controls the movement. This-
    There's a lot of things that Steam Powered Giraffe has done that I loved, but this-
    This is on par with "A Way Into Your Heart" in terms of being one of the sweetest, most touching gestures I've ever seen.
    Including your fans in anything in general is a sweet gesture in it's own right, however doing it by wrapping their appearance in such an important and great message is just incredible.
    I wasn't aware of this at all until the day I saw it, so it kind of caught me off-guard, but that made it even better.
    Better still is that you guys actually included your own flaws in it, too, which just makes you seem all the more grounded and connected to your fans - two things which I very much appreciate about you.
    And finally, I just love how you included people with disabilities or issues with their gender-identity, but also people with "Lesser" flaws, such as a short temper or fear of the dark. Those lesser flaws that people hate about themselves often get ignored in favor of paying attention to people with more serious issues, and while I'm not saying that those serious issues shouldn't be addressed, it was a nice breath of fresh air to see everyone get a chance to address their problem without inevitably and immediately being silenced because someone has it worse than them and they didn't happen to be born with a disability.
    As for a sidenotes:
    A. I'm impressed that people were not only able to be honest about small or big faults they saw in themselves, but were also able to keep it so short and sweet.
    B. That said, if I were to write down my "malfunctions" the list would be way too long (And include everything from my fear of spiders to my unwillingness to try new things to my oh-so-infamous short temper to how condescending and patronizing I can be at times and much, much more.
    Overall, this was amazing, not only is the song very catchy and just nice to listen to, the lyrics are touching and every detail of this amazing gesture is handled very well.

    • @otterpus
      @otterpus 8 лет назад +22

      I really loved that they included those tiny malfunctions as well. I have had a tremendously shitty life that left me with a lot of mental illnesses, and when I tell people they are all like "Oh well, my problems aren't really that bad." and I tell them, "Maybe not, but they still matter and I still care and I want you to talk about them."
      I don't use my illness to shut people down. Not everything has to be a pissing contest.

    • @ruinaar2495
      @ruinaar2495 7 лет назад +1

      I've only finally commented with my own, which I never really take as serious enough for me to even address at all. Even though I've written a blog post about one of them, but it was for about others with them, with the statistics and what people could do to help those with it. But still, I never care for my own, I just want everyone else to be happy and be at peace in their lives. And that's great if you both to see how wonderful thus sing really is. And that even the lesser ones are not to be shut out either. You two are great, along with all the members of Steam Powered Giraffe. Past and present.

I suffered from a lot back then, many of the same malfunctions and doubts, but the past few years have brought to light how much I have fought, battled a bitter struggle... what used to be a neat song that told me to fight on has become a war-cry of endurance. I can't listen to this in its entirety without breaking into tears, and that's okay...
    My malfunctions haven't beaten me yet. I'm still fighting, I'm still winning this war.

    We work with the intellectually disabled. We love the work we do, it's about helping the folks we serve reach their fullest potential and success as they define it. That said, every person who exists has been gifted with multiple traits that others would call "abnormal". An honest appraisal of oneself would reveal several. Steam Powered Giraffe makes fantastic music because of and in spite of their special gifts. Our world is enhanced by their genius and touched by their amazing humanity. Bless you all!

    Let's see, my malfunctions? Well, I'm trans, queer, and nonbinary for one (and proud to be!). I have severe major depression and moderate anxiety, I'm very suicidal, I likely have a personality disorder or two (but that's just a hypothesis), I'm very self-destructive, I'm a child sexual abuse survivor, and my physical health is deteriorating due to my awful mental health.

      Given the slew of Anxiety mini vids in this, yes. Although anxiety is pretty vague and often self ascribed, everyone has different triggers so to speak. I never had problems with public interaction but the tiniest blip in my health status was an instant panic attack

      All the "malfunctions" are actually traits that society considers undesirable or "wrong". The overarching theme of this song and video is that all of us have something that doesn't fit society's definition of perfect and that it's okay. It's okay to be flawed or different. It's okay if you have struggles with mental health. Because we're all "malfunctioning" in some way.

    My malfunction is my severe anxiety and this song shows that I'm not alone and it's very comforting to see this. Thanks you steam powered giraffe.

    Though I'm late... this is so freaking amazing.
    It also helps me to know that no one is truly alone... though I didn't see someone else who had BPD(if there was someone who did, I might not have seen it). BPD, or Borderline Personality Disorder is one of the most horrifying thing I deal with day to day, it makes my life a much harder to deal with, but at least I've learned how to get better with living with it. Anyways, enough of my little rant, I still find this absolutely amazing. It's just interesting to see that there are others going through the other problems I have suffered with a good portion of my life(anxiety, PTSD, dyslexia, etc.)...
