Well you don’t like that way that I am (is not the way)
Way that you want and the way you understand (but I can’t)
Can’t help being the way that I am (it’s just the way)
Way that it is and what I know so sorry about
All of these things that I be and I know (it's all me)
And not you but this ain't how I wish (it to be)
For you and your way and I know (it’s all me)
Just know that I know, I know it’s all on me
All the little pieces make up so much sense in the distance, a-whoa-ho-ho-ho
Fragmented to the point of is it possible?
Hot on the trail of a real fine life
This could be what it means to be alive
Can’t be too sure but it feels the right way
Love is infinite like sun rays
I know what I need to be me
And I know being me makes it hard to see
Standing on a precipice isn’t new
Those demons sometimes get me seeing blue
All this, call this, what you want but it
Makes me feel alive
Stowed it , showed it, now I know it
Can’t be in my mind
It was foreign, pouring, I’ve been storing
This for a long while
I consumed, felt doomed, sung a new tune
Eventually in time
But you don’t like that way that I feel (is the way)
Way that makes you feel worse all of the time (and I know)
Know that it’s not okay for you (and it’s not)
Not for me and is for you so sorry about
All of these things that you didn’t sign up for (and I don’t)
Don’t wish the pain on you it’s so sore (but I’ve been)
Honest to fault (but it doesn’t help)
I know that hurts and it hurts and it keeps on hurting
Every single time we try and try to
make things right for you and I
We just kept digging, digging it deep
Below our feet ‘till we started to sink
And I didn’t know what what to do
I told myself the truth the truth
And I could understand and you could understand
But how could we stand, when there was nowhere to stand?
And all the little things that get under our skin
Didn’t make us better in that heavy weather
I hope that it’s better but never upsetter
We took ours hands, made some vague plan
All the little pieces make up so much sense in the distance, a-whoa-ho-ho-ho
Fragmented to the point of is it possible?
Hot on the trail of a real fine life
This could be what it means to be alive
Can’t be too sure but it feels the right way
Love is infinite like sun rays
I know what I need to be me
And I know being me makes it hard to see
The distance hasn’t always been clear
But finally with our love it could appear
And you don’t like what it is
And you don’t know what it is
And I can’t sum it up easily
But I know what it is that I plainly see
Yeah who could have liked what it was?
It caused such a fuss
My heart placed in your hand
Then we gave love a chance and

I like stage
Mine is Spine's red collar
Chair must be a critical piece of the lore
steam powered chair
I think we're all forgetting the true star of this music video, I mean, come on! Obviously it's the little white twinkle lights.
The Spine doesn’t skip leg day
If I remember right he has a spinal condition that makes it painful to sit, so he stands most of the day every day even when traveling. There is a couple of shots on the "Way to Your Heart" video where is standing on their tour bus while it going down the road. Also, he's wearing flare legged pants
Larry Daniel painful to sit? Damn. Major props to David for dealing with that.
@@keighlysocha5364 He acknowledged the comment in his recent Instagram post (don't worry, he thinks it's funny!). He also mentioned having sciatica, which is why he spends most of his time standing.
@@threekeysmusic Surprisingly, that isn't actually where the robot name comes from. According to some of their podcast stuff, he'd had the online handle spineraptor when he was growing up and The Spine's name came from that, while back issues didn't become a thing until around 2012-ish.
Hes also like 80% legs, so leg day doesnt miss him
I like the idea of Rabbit and Zero singing from the darkness watching Spine having a go at a crisis.
the chair: "They ask you how you are, and you just have to say you’re fine when you’re not really fine, but you just can’t get into it, because they would never understand."
David’s ability to move like a nineties animatronic just blows my mind. Like e amount of thought you have to put into every single move you make
Agreed but you know he and Rabbit took classes in vaudeville which is what their movements are inspired
Because of the guitar, we really don't see David's herky-jerky robot motions. This is perfect--the minimalist approach, the chair, bald Spine. A winner! AND IN ONE SHOT!
Kendal Hunter bald spine is amazing. I agree that David and the boys (and girl ;D) did really well on this piece.
Hell yeah!
I miss the hat. XD
Wow! Exactly, amazing video all in one shot! Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This whole thing was done in one shot? I thought so...reminds me of the scene from children of men literally like 10 mins in one shot...these guys r great but their vids are always so weird to me lol
I love how every character has a kind of theme to their songs. Hatchworths previous songs and, now, Zero are kind of silly and fun. Spine comes across as romantic and love oriented/lost love and Rabbit is very heartbroken/sad, but sometimes very upbeat and positive (Malfunction comes to mind). That's not counting the group songs where they all act and sing together.
You forgot The John and Upgrade who also has a song
I feel like Rabbit's songs has to do with her being trans, she's finally realizing who she really is and singing for the lost years where she wasn't living as she wanted to be. At least that's how I see it.
Pacific coast piper WHO????
I lived in Cali, So-Cal, and only like 3 hours away from South town so I'm disappointed about JUST discovering these robots. However...aiiiiii...love the Jon. I'm working on drawing something and hopefully sending it to him. Where's his story?
The spinne somehow wants to feel alive, he's a robot, he can't dream, can't feel, but he wants to.
He is so good that when he throws the chair it lands and bounces to the beat
Kyndral22 I had to go back and check this after seeing your comment :’)
I could be wrong but I think the chair is on strings. The way he "flips" it doesn't look right to me.
Watch closely. David grabs the chair with his rearward hand and flips it as he stands.
I get the fact that he's _supposed_ to be the one flipping it, but it doesn't look right.
@Mugshortty _ such a Spine thing to do
This band deserves so much more attention than it gets
@@YouViolatedTheNAP not necessarily talking about subscribers or views, just mainstream attention in general. These artists put a lotta work into their art and it'd be cool to hear them on the radio or something

It will happen, steampunk has steadily become more known, even our steampunk event in Tucson, Wild wild west steampunk con, shows growing attendance every year ... I agree with you tho, with so much music that relies on altering the artist's voice, lots of instruments and bling floods the music scene but this is raw talent, amazing voices, engaging characters e.t.c these "guys" deserve a bit of mainstream's airtime.

By the time I found the actual dates I already had other plans. Hopefully I'll get to check it out next year.
Most music is meant to be heard. Steam Powered Giraffe songs are meant to be experienced.
YES. This
I am absolutely enamored by the decision to end the song with the word "and." It's the ultimate "show don't tell" and really emphasizes how emotional the song is, and how it uses that emotion to convey meaning. From my reading of it, this is a song about a relationship that ended poorly. Ending the song, then, with "we gave love a chance, and..." says everything by saying nothing. The Spine put faith in love, and was let down. But instead of spelling it out to the listener, y'all let the passion of the performance do that work. Really wonderful writing!
42_Violets I TOTALLY FEEL THAT, the whole way this is acted, teamed with the lyrics and choices they made to convey the message. I can’t put it into words the way you did but oh man, I really really felt it, it’s an emotional masterpiece
My sort of headcannon interpretation is that it could also be a loop. In code, you can have a statement that essentially repeats itself endlessly, when it ends it just starts again from the beginning. Essentially, it could represent a broken relationship with two people who love each other but simply aren't compatible for one reason or another but they keep trying anyway, even though it keeps breaking down like clockwork.
Gave love a chance and then nothing . It's perfect.
agreed
@@Pengalor Yes! I like this one, it's more in line with the feels I got.
"We gave love a chance and....
well you don't like the way that I am...
it's not the way that you want and the way you understand,
but I can't help bein the way that I am..."
In this video, the world realizes, DAMN, the Spine is kinda ripped
Also, as someone who gets by with my own set of mental diagnoses, the defiance and will to continue in Spine's songs really give me the fire to keep firing. (Also, been listening to this on repeat just now, and I've noticed that the song ends with a perfect intro to its own beginning .. was that on purpose?) Oh yeah, and BaldSpine is way cooler than HatSpine
Oh, the fangirls have known for a while, the rest of the world is just now catching up ;P
the spine does not skip leg day
This is their best song He could be a really good popsinger
My head cannon for all the new songs
Rabbit: Let's have fun while being together
Zero: I'm head over heels for you
Spine: it didn't work out...
It's not an spg album unless rabbit gets one song about being sad and lonely and I'm still waiting on it

Confession: This video was my first exposure to Steam Powered Giraffe, though I have gone back and listened/watched much of their content since. I have to say, I believe I picked a hell of a place in their career to jump in! Cheers, everyone!
Ive always adored the way The Spine sways when hes stood in on spot. Mesmerisingly mechanical

Its hard to believe that almost 7 years ago my best friend (r.i.p now 😥) introduced me to spg with the song Brass goggles, the first time i listened to it i knew he had gifted me with something special, my hope is to one day actually get to see spg play live (its hard as i live in the UK).

I’ve just ended a 3 year relationship that was also long distance for at least 50% of the time. I’m in the UK and he’s in the US. It was a really hard choice, but this really really hits home. We lived together for a while too, it’s hella heavy but this is really helping. “All the little pieces make so much sense in the distance, fragmented to the point of is it possible.” Plus it just wasn’t helping my mental health, aka “the things he didn’t sign up for”. Thank you for always being there for me SPG, when I don’t know what to do, you remind me to tell myself the truth, the truth 💕

Wow they actually did The Spine with out his hat. If I remember correctly they said they weren’t going to, in one of the podcasts.
Kinda like when the sound producer of Banjo-Kazooie said "Banjo has no chance to get into Smash"
But really hes like: 👀 dont expect him 🤭

He doesn't wear his hat in the diamonds in the sky video either.
He's without his hat in part of the Overdrive video too.
@maddestmadhatter what are you on about? "There's a big difference between if the hat is off, and if he takes the hat off?"
It's as simple as this. Spine probably said they wouldn't do full head make up. Then he decided to shave his head and it became an option.
Period.
Holy balls!!!! That was amazing! I loved the single take photography. Also the oversaturated red details. And the makeup! Just for the video or is that the new Spine makeup? The Bennett twins are insanely talented.

I've listened and listened. I've broken down the lyrics. I've studied the movement. I don't know how to describe it. It melds together like it was straight. I want to say that this felt real. I think that there's more personal emotion in this one song than any others.
Side note: if a radio station hasn't picked this up, it should. I think this was better than any mainstream I have heard in at least a decade.
Everytime I listen to this I wonder why this band didn't make it farther. They are so talented. I am so glad I came across these ppl at San Diego zoo.
David is so talented at writing lyrics and music in general. The storytelling, the singing, acting is all wonderful. I love that we have a new Spine song. I can't wait to see how this song fits into the new album and the story it all tells.
I know I'm probably off base, but it almost sounds like a poly relationship that soured.
I know I'm 9 months late to this comment, but honestly that was my take as well. The line "Love is infinite like sun rays" really drove the poly idea through for me. This song also came out when a poly relationship I was in had soured, and everything he sings about in this really just felt like he was talking about what I had gone through. It's probably off base, but it's definitely possible; I'm pretty sure Bunny has talked about having multiple partners in her vlogs in the past, so it wouldn't be too shocking.
I haven't felt this happy in so long
